Bali Power Plug Types – What You Need to Know

Bali Power Plug Types – What You Need to Know

For travelers visiting Bali, Indonesia, here's everything you need to know about power plugs, voltage, and staying connected:

🔌 Power Plug Types in Bali

Bali uses Type C (Europlug: 2 round pins) and Type F (Schuko: 2 round pins + side grounding clips). These are identical to plugs used across Europe and much of Asia.

⚡ Voltage & Frequency

  • 230V | 50Hz
Note: While rated at 230V, Bali's voltage can fluctuate between 210V–240V.

✅ What You Need

  1. Universal Travel Adapter
    • Ensure it supports Type C/F. Most universal or "European" adapters work.
    • Pro Tip: Bring 1–2 adapters if using multiple devices simultaneously.
  2. Voltage Check
    • Most modern electronics (phones, laptops, cameras) support 100V–240V (check labels: "Input: 100–240V").
    • High-watt appliances (hair dryers, straighteners, kettles) risk damage if not dual-voltage. Use a voltage converter if necessary.

Bali Power Plug Voltage & Frequency

Bali Power Plug Voltage & Frequency

The voltage used in Bali is 230V and the frequency is 50Hz. Most modern electronic devices, such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, camera chargers, etc., basically support a wide voltage range of 100-240V. Therefore, from the perspective of voltage adaptation, most common devices can be used normally in Bali without additional transformers.

However, if you are carrying some old-fashioned electrical appliances or special equipment with extremely high requirements for voltage stability, it is best to carefully read the equipment manual before traveling to confirm whether you need to carry a transformer.

What This Means for Your Devices

  1. Voltage Compatibility
    • ✅ Safe: Most modern electronics (phones, laptops, cameras, USB-C chargers) support 100V–240V.
Check labels for "Input: 100–240V ~50/60Hz".
    • ⚠️ Risk of Damage: High-watt appliances (hair dryers, straighteners, kettles) not labeled 100–240V may fry. Use a voltage converter if essential.
  2. Frequency (50Hz)
    • Safe for all digital devices (battery chargers, LED lights).
    • May affect motors/clocks (rare in travel gear).
  3. Adapter Necessity
    • 🔥 Critical: North American (Type A/B), UK (Type G), or Australian (Type I) plugs won’t fit Bali’s outlets.
    • ✅ Solution: Use a universal adapter supporting Type C/F (Europlug/Schuko).

Bali Power Plug: Adapters & Converters Guide

Bali Power Plug: Adapters & Converters Guide

The two-hole socket type in Bali is compatible with both German standard and European standard plugs. So, when going to Bali, just bring a European standard socket adapter or a German standard adapter plug.

4.8mm plug converter, used in Bali sockets, is more compact. Convert it into a new national standard five-hole socket. Each time, one type of plug (two flat or three flat plugs) can be used separately. It is equipped with grounding spring pieces, and the casing is made of high flame-retardant PC environmentally friendly material, providing greater safety guarantees when in use.

Where to Buy Adapters for Bali Travel?

Where to Buy Adapters for Bali Travel?

Power Adapter Purchasing Options

1. German standard adapter plug

Specifically adapted to German standard sockets, it converts other plugs into two-prong plugs suitable for Bali sockets. When purchasing, pay attention to choosing reliable quality products, such as those with grounding spring pieces and shells made of highly flame-retardant PC environmentally friendly materials, which can greatly enhance the safety of use.

A German standard adapter with a 4.8mm plug diameter will be tighter and have better contact when used in Bali sockets.

2. Multifunctional (universal) conversion plug

This type of adapter plug usually comes with multiple adjustable pins and can adapt to different types of sockets in many countries and regions around the world. Not only can it meet the demand for German standard sockets in Bali, but if there are travel plans to other countries in the future, there is no need to purchase conversion plugs again.

3. European standard plug converter

This socket is also suitable for Bali. Its 4.0mm plug diameter can also be used in local sockets. However, compared with the 4.8mm German standard adapter plug, it may be slightly loose after being inserted into the socket. However, its long European-standard plug design can be well embedded in some concave sockets in Bali.

🛒 Kmart Travel Adapter

  1. Universal Travel Adapter ($8 AUD)
    • Supports Type C/F (Bali), A/B (US), G (UK).

  2. Europe Travel Adapter ($6 AUD)
    • Direct Type I (Aus) → Type C (Bali).
    • No USB ports.
    • Note: Bali uses Type C/F – Type F grounding not supported.

⚠️ Critical Notes

  • Voltage Safety: Devices must support 230V input (check labels). Most modern gear works.
  • Kmart Adapter Limits:
    • Type F Grounding: Only found in premium adapters (≥$25 AUD).

Recommend booking the boat on trip.com for 70k IDR. Half price compared to booking on any other operator and they have a nice little shuttle bus to the harbour from the office you pick up your tickets from. The ticket office is located near the road that taxi can drop you off at so you dont have to walk to get to the harbour. The island itself is also very nice, if you have the time a night stay is recommended.

I really enjoyed my peaceful 10 day stay, the bungalows are amazing, the family is very responsive, non-invasive and kind. They never bothered me and offered help when crossed paths with me. I would say maybe I'd price it 30% lower, then for me it would be a golden standard of this kind of lodging. But it's a tiny masterpiece, I recommend. Oh, I'm not sure why they dont have the bidet sprayers in the bathroom 🫣🌊 It's equally 12-15 minute hike to three gorgeous beaches and has two huge supermarkets nearby, a super modern padel tennis center and a very fancy Huge bar 3 mins away. It is silent at night, but a neighbourhood school is nearby so expect to hear the school starting its activities via microphones. Didnt bother me much, cuz im not a light sleeper. The owner runs a very interesting tiny garden with some amazing specimens. Will be interesting to see how this space matures in the future!

Questions about Bali Power Plug

  • What plug adaptor do I need for Bali?

Bali uses Type C and Type F power plugs, which are two-pin plugs, like those found in Europe. An adaptor is required for any other plug type, like those from Australia (Type I), the US (Type A/B) or Japan (Type A/B). Type C and F plugs are interchangeable, but Type F has an additional grounding pin for safety.
  • Are the plugs in Bali the same as Singapore?

While many ASEAN countries, including Singapore, use Type C plugs that operate on a 230 Volt power supply, Bali presents a slight difference. Here, power outlets generally use Type C/F plugs, which have two round prongs with additional earthing clips on the sides.
  • What kind of charger is used in Bali?

Bali's Standard Sockets Type C Sockets: They are two-pin outlets you will see in most hotels, cafés, and public spaces in Bali. Examples of devices used with Type C sockets are mobile phone chargers, cameras, laptops, and small electronic gadgets.
  • What does a Bali adaptor look like?

The plug standard in Bali is a two-pin plug for a socket, also known as plug type F and type C. There are two associated plug types for Bali: C and F. Plug type C is a two-round-pin plug, and plug type F is a two-round-pin plug with two earth clips on the side.
