Do I Need to Complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)?

Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia
Yes, all foreign nationals traveling to Malaysia in 2026 are required to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC). Since its launch on December 1, 2023, the MDAC has completely replaced the old paper arrival cards and is now a mandatory immigration step—please note, it is not a visa. Whether you're arriving by air, land, or sea, this requirement applies to everyone, including tourists, business travelers, students, and those holding work passes.
Every traveler needs their own MDAC, including infants and young children—group submissions aren't available, so please make sure each person completes their own form!
Exceptions (no MDAC required):
- Malaysian citizens and permanent residents
- Travelers in transit who stay within the international transit area without passing through Malaysian immigration
- Diplomats and official government representatives with special entry privileges
What is the MDAC, and How Does It Work?

Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) is an electronic immigration form created by Malaysia's Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia) to make your border crossing smoother and keep travel secure. It serves three main purposes:
- Captures essential traveler information—like personal details, your travel itinerary, accommodation plans, and health status—to share with immigration authorities.
- Speed through immigration and breeze past the lines at self-service auto gates (for eligible travelers)!
- Say goodbye to old-school paper arrival cards and hello to a smoother journey—this change cuts down on wait times while being kinder to the planet!
Keep in mind that the MDAC is completely separate from a visa—even if you're a visa-exempt traveler, you'll still need to complete it before you arrive.

When Should You Apply for and Submit Your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card?

Source: Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
You can submit your MDAC starting 72 hours (3 days) before your arrival in Malaysia, including the day you land. To keep your details up to date, the official system won't accept any submissions made before this window opens.
For example, if your flight touches down in Kuala Lumpur on March 1, you’re all set to submit your MDAC starting February 28.
For a stress-free journey, be sure to submit your MDAC 1-2 days before you arrive. It’s best to avoid last-minute submissions—like while you're at airport check-in—to steer clear of any potential delays caused by Internet connectivity issues or form errors.
How to Complete and Submit Your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) Online

How to Complete and Submit Your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) Online | Source: MDAC Malaysia
Follow these simple steps to complete your MDAC with ease—just a heads-up that your core personal details can't be changed once submitted, so be sure to double-check everything before you hit that final button!
Step 1: Keep an eye out for the 72-hour submission window
Please make sure to access the official MDAC portal within 72 hours of your arrival, as any submissions made before this window will not be accepted.
Step 2: Head over to the official MDAC website
Head over to https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main and click "Register" to kick off your application process.
Step 3: Get Your Details Ready
Get these details ready before you start to ensure a smooth, delay-free experience:
- Personal details: Passport number, full legal name (exactly as it appears on your passport), date of birth, nationality, gender, international contact number, and email address.
- Travel Details: Arrival date, mode of travel (air/land/sea), flight/vehicle/ferry number, country of departure, and your planned departure date
- Where you're staying: Please provide the full address in Malaysia (including state, city, postcode, and street) or the hotel name along with the city.
- Health: Your recent travel history, current health status, and any important vaccination details
Note: Please use the spelling or transliteration exactly as it appears on the MRZ line of your passport. Avoid using special characters, accents, or nicknames, and ensure all letters in alphanumeric fields are in uppercase.
Step 4: Time to fill in your details
Simply fill in your personal, travel, accommodation, and health details as the form guides you—just keep an eye out for the fields marked with an *, as these are required. Please be sure to answer all health declaration questions honestly, as providing false information could lead to fines or even being denied entry.
Step 5: Take a quick look and confirm your details
Take a moment to double-check every field for any typos or mismatches, especially your passport number and name—this is the most common reason for submission hiccups. Once you've hit submit, you won't be able to edit core personal details like your name, passport number, date of birth, or nationality, so please review everything carefully! Only minor updates, such as flight times, can be made before you arrive.
Step 6: Submit your details and get your PIN code
Once you've reviewed everything, just hit Submit! You'll receive a PIN code via email right away—be sure to keep it handy, as you'll need it to access your confirmation later.
Step 7: Double-check your details and save your confirmation
Head back to the MDAC website and click "Check Registration" in the top right corner. Simply enter your passport number and PIN code to view, download, or print your confirmation document, which includes your unique QR code. We recommend saving the PDF to your phone or tablet for easy offline access, and printing a physical copy as a backup—you’ll need it for a smooth airline check-in and immigration clearance!

Everything You Need to Know About the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

Getting ready for your trip? The requirements for the MDAC involve two key sets of rules: the MDAC submission guidelines (to ensure you fill out the form correctly) and the general Malaysia entry requirements (to help you breeze through immigration after you've submitted your form). Please keep in mind that all these rules are strictly enforced by Malaysian Immigration.
MDAC Submission Guidelines
- Please be sure to submit your information only through the official MDAC portal, as no other channels are accepted.
- To ensure your trip goes off without a hitch, please double-check that all your information—including spelling, numbers, and dates—matches your passport exactly.
- Please be sure to provide honest and accurate health and travel information. Keep in mind that false declarations are a violation of Malaysian law and could lead to fines or even being denied entry.
- There is no fee to submit your application—any request for payment is fraudulent.
- Every traveler needs to complete their own form, as group submissions aren't available. For more details, visit mdac-malaysia.com.
Malaysia Entry Requirements: Everything You Need for a Smooth Immigration Clearance
- Valid passport: Make sure it has at least 6 months of validity remaining from your arrival date and is in great shape (no tears, water damage, or missing pages).
- Return or onward ticket: You'll need to show proof that you're leaving Malaysia (either a digital or printed copy). If you're traveling on a one-way ticket, be prepared to share your travel plans and provide proof of your onward journey.
- Visa (if required): Remember, the MDAC is completely separate from a visa—so if your nationality isn't visa-exempt, please double-check that your visa is valid before you travel.
- Heads up! Malaysian Immigration may occasionally conduct random checks to ensure you have sufficient funds for your trip. It’s a good idea to be prepared to show proof of 10,000 MYR per person, or 20,000 MYR per family (for groups of 2 or more), either in cash or the equivalent in foreign currency.
- MDAC confirmation: Make sure you have a digital or printed copy with your QR code handy—you’ll definitely need this for a smooth immigration clearance!
Is There a Fee for the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)?
Good news: there is absolutely no fee to submit your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) through the official portal! Please be aware that any website or service asking you to pay for an MDAC is unauthorized and fraudulent. These third-party sites offer no extra perks and certainly won't speed up your submission or arrival process, so be sure to stick to the official channel.
Essential Tips for Your Arrival in Malaysia
Follow these simple tips for a smooth and stress-free immigration experience in Malaysia:
- Keep your MDAC QR code and passport handy! Have both ready for airline check-in (staff may need to verify them) and immigration. A pro tip: save the QR code in your phone’s photo gallery so it’s accessible offline, and tuck a printed copy into your passport holder for extra peace of mind.
- Get Organized: Keep your MDAC confirmation, passport, visa (if applicable), return ticket, and hotel booking all in one handy pouch. It’s the perfect way to breeze through the immigration counter without any last-minute scrambling!
- Get to know the self-service auto gate rules: If you’re 16 or older, hold an e-passport (with a chip), and have already provided your biometrics (fingerprints/photo) to Malaysian Immigration, you’re all set to breeze through the auto gates! If it’s your first time visiting, you’ll just need to head to the manual immigration counters to get cleared.
- Be ready to answer immigration questions with confidence: Officers might ask a few straightforward questions, like “Where are you staying?”, “How long will you be in Malaysia?”, or “What is the purpose of your visit?”. Just have a clear, concise answer prepared—something like, “I’m staying at a hotel in Penang for 5 days for a vacation.”
- Be ready for random checks: Keep your proof of funds and hotel booking handy. While these checks are hit-or-miss, being prepared is the best way to breeze through and avoid any hold-ups!
- Get to the airport early: For international flights to Malaysia, aim to arrive 3 hours before your departure. This gives you plenty of breathing room to handle any last-minute MDAC hiccups—like quickly resubmitting if you spot a minor error—and ensures a smooth, stress-free check-in.

A historic gem in the heart of Bukit Bintang
I’ve always admired this stunning building whenever I passed through Bukit Bintang and finally had the chance to stay for a night.
Pros:
Location: Super convenient as it’s within walking distance to Pavilion Mall.
Parking: Guests can park for a reasonable flat rate of RM 5.
Atmosphere: The building architecture is beautiful, and the lobby is truly grand and impressive.
Pool: The swimming pool is large and was one of my favorite parts of the stay.
Cons/Points to Note:
Aging: As it’s an older hotel, you can definitely see some signs of age that are hard to hide.
Pool Hours: The pool is only open from 8 AM to 8 PM, which is a bit disappointing compared to other hotels that stay open until 10 or 11 PM.
Breakfast: The breakfast buffet didn't quite meet my expectations, though it wasn't bad.FromTHB 1,722

Unfortunately, we only stayed for one night before heading to Malacca, and we truly wished we could have stayed a few more days.
We booked a Deluxe Two-Bedroom Apartment with a kitchen at a very reasonable price. It provided plenty of space for our family of four, making it a comfortable choice for travelling with two children.
One thing we absolutely have to mention is the bedroom. The room was wonderfully dark at night, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We all had a fantastic night's sleep, which is exactly what every parent needs while travelling!
The rooftop infinity pool was another highlight of our stay. The view was absolutely stunning. Although it was a little crowded at times, it was still a very enjoyable experience.
We would definitely consider staying here again on our next visit to Kuala Lumpur.FromTHB 2,509

We had an excellent stay at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur. From the moment we arrived, the hotel offered a perfect blend of comfort and luxury. The rooms were beautifully designed, spacious, and exceptionally comfortable, making it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city.
The facilities were outstanding, and the overall atmosphere felt modern, elegant, and welcoming. One of the highlights of our stay was the food. The breakfast and dining options were excellent, with a wide variety of delicious dishes and high-quality ingredients.
The location is also fantastic, with easy access to shopping, restaurants, and the main attractions in Bukit Bintang. We would highly recommend PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur to anyone looking for a luxurious and comfortable stay with amazing food and excellent service.FromTHB 2,925

When it comes to dining, there is absolutely no need to worry at all, even if you’re not a particularly picky eater. The area surrounding hotel is teeming with a diverse array of food stores, local eateries and cozy restaurants, offering an extensive selection of delicious cuisines to suit all tastes, you’ll find plenty of wonderful dining options just a short walk away.
Overall my stay at Pacific Express Hotel Central Market was perfect.(except the water heater is not function well, water flow hot for a while then cold again rm8521), other than that the room is spacious, with small refrigerator, nothing to compare with such nice room and reasonable price.
The unrivaled location, convenient dining choices combine to create a truly wonderful living experience. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kuala Lumpur, and I will definitely choose to stay here again.

The best part of this hotel is definitely the rooftop pool. The panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur from above is beautiful, especially during sunset and at night. It’s the highlight of the stay.
The hotel is also about a 10-minute walk from public transport, making it fairly convenient for getting around the city.
Unfortunately, the hotel is starting to show its age and is in need of renovation. The elevator situation was also disappointing. There are three elevators, but only two were operating during our stay, and they were very slow. We spent a lot of time waiting, especially during peak hours.
The front desk staff were quiet but helpful whenever we needed assistance. However, the security staff at the entrance could be much more attentive. They mostly stood by the door without greeting guests or offering to help with luggage. For a Hilton-branded hotel, I expected a warmer welcome and more proactive service.
Overall, I feel the management needs to improve the guest experience. While the rooftop view is fantastic, the lack of attention to service, aging facilities, and slow elevators do not meet the standard I would expect from a Hilton brand.FromTHB 1,008

Hotel Review
Location: Excellent—just across the road from Kampung Baru food area, very convenient for foodies.
Check-in: Allowed early check-in at 1:30 PM despite 3 PM standard time due to room availability. Much appreciated.
Staff: Special mention to the staff member resembling celebrity singer Hafiz—excellent service, kept everything smooth and entertaining. Kudos.
Room (1619):
Connecting room arrangement was inconvenient; needed to prop the door open (1619,1620)
TV in father's room not functioning (1618)
Major issue: Strong sewage smell in bathroom—disturbing and needs immediate attention
Toiletries: Initially not refilled—no lotion, body wash in my room; no shower gel or conditioner in dad's room. Staff replaced with hand-packed amenities. Appreciated the gesture.
Food & Dining:
Breakfast buffet: RM37.10—excellent value; surprisingly good nasi goreng (first time I enjoyed it)
In-room dining: Nasi Goreng Tamu was good, but sambal prawn was too sweet
Hotel breakfast preferred over outside options—area dominated by nasi padang, which isn't to our taste
Overall: Okay stay. Responsive service on toiletries and excellent staff, but bathroom odor and room setup issues need fixing.FromTHB 2,138

Booked this hotel for a trip to Kuala Lumpur with my mom, and it was a very satisfying stay!
Service: When we checked in, the staff member proactively helped us carry our luggage to the room, which was very thoughtful and welcoming. The front desk also specially arranged a twin room for us. The check-in process, which required English, went smoothly.
Hygiene: The room was clean and tidy, and housekeeping did a great job cleaning every day, even folding our clothes.
Facilities: My mom particularly loved this hotel because it provided plenty of hangers, which made it easy for us to dry our washed clothes. All other facilities were also well-equipped, and the air conditioning system was very convenient.
Environment: From our room, we could see the KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers, and the night view was absolutely beautiful. The hotel is located right next to the bustling Pavilion Kuala Lumpur mall, and also near the popular McDonald's landmark. It’s convenient for getting around, dining, and drinking, and the area is very lively at night, being close to the Bukit Bintang monorail and MRT stations.FromTHB 1,419

Here’s your full review combined and polished:
The hotel is conveniently located near the city centre, making it easy to get a taxi or Grab to KLCC. Whether you’re visiting for a holiday or a business trip, the location works well.
Right next to the hotel, there’s a 7-Eleven and a shopping mall, so getting food and daily essentials is very convenient.
For the price per night, the room is incredibly good value. It’s spacious, clean, and suitable for families too. The lobby looks great, and overall the stay feels very worthwhile for what you pay.
The hotel also has its own restaurant and a swimming pool, which are nice added perks — although I didn’t get the chance to try them.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the location is excellent with direct access to Sunway Putra Mall.
However, breakfast for my children was not included and required additional payment. The swimming pool could also be better maintained.
The biggest issue was the bathroom drainage. Water did not flow properly to the drain, leaving the floor constantly wet and slippery. Unfortunately, my son slipped and fell because of this.
Parking was another disappointment. Guests are charged RM13 per day, which cost us RM39 for a 3-day stay. Complimentary parking for long-stay guests would be appreciated.
Overall, a pleasant stay with a great location, but improvements are needed in bathroom safety, parking policy, and family-friendly breakfast options.FromTHB 2,348

The room size was more than adequate and it was quiet. It's located at the very end of the alley behind the Shangri-La. There's a small 7-Eleven downstairs. When we first got to our triple room, the duvet felt a bit damp, so we asked to switch rooms and they happily accommodated us. TLDR: Ceylonz is a great hotel, but the provider (Five Senses) is not. Book a different provider if you want to stay at Ceylonz.
(Trip.com does not let me post videos, refer to the pictures below)
Initial room conditions:
When we first entered the room we encountered these things:
- Leftover jacket from the previous guest(?)
- stains on the chairs
- water stains on the wardrobe
- dead ants in the wardrobe
- a flickering light
Service:
Because we chose to stay for 7 nights, we had a 1 free make-up room offered to us which we appreciated. However when we flagged up the issues we found on the first day, they gave us a make-up room on the second day and consumed our free make-up room without our choice. We wanted to use it in the middle of the trip like the 4th day. Because of this we had no toilet paper, tissue box was empty, towels were not replaced.
After the 2nd day, they no longer replied to our texts when we enquired about using the sports lounge, requesting a makeup room, getting more toilet paper. Very bad service.
After their make-up room, they removed the jacket and cleaned the seat stains, but they did not fix the light or clean the dead ants in the wardrobe. We understand fixing a light might not be possible but the ants were easily removable and we did it ourselves after they left. It felt like they were cutting corners as they also did not replace our tissue box, clean the dead ants or clean the water stains on the wardrobe.
Ceylonz:
The hotel comes with
- nice pool,
- 2 gym rooms with great views,
- a minimart at the ground floor,
- amazing location, walking distance from Bukit Bintang's Pavilion
Room:
- the amenities provided are not the same for every room, the last time we came there was a water dispenser and pull-out kitchen, this time there isn't (same five senses at ceylonz, same room type)
- spacious
- tall ceiling
- well equipped
- bay window
- the walls are relatively soundproof so you cannot hear other rooms but the door is not and the hallway is very audible from inside the room, we can hear people chatting, checking in, pulling luggages
Bed:
- not soft, hard bed with springs
- pillows and blanket is okay
- uncomfortable bed
We would have given this place a glowing review if they:
- Stuck to their 1 complimentary makeup room offered
- service: replied to our enquiries at all after the 2nd day
- better room cleanliness/make-up room diligence: cleaned the dead ants and the water stains on the wardrobeFromTHB 1,140

The room was clean and comfortable but the temperature control was unsatisfactory. Despite multiple attempts to adjust it, the room remained at an uncomfortably warm, room temperature.
While the breakfast selection itself was adequate, the 40-minute wait to be seated was unacceptable and reflects poor crowd management.
Furthermore, scheduling the café’s renovation from 1st to 5th May was a poor decision. Doing so during a long weekend and rain rave festive period significantly impacted guest experience and contributed to the delays.FromTHB 2,783

Booked two rooms, stayed four nights. The rooms look rather dated and do not seem to be refurbished. We checked in late at night around 10ish pm, and not long after checking in, there were problems with one of the rooms, and we requested a change of room. Not sure if the hotel was really full, as we were only given a new room a good 15-18 hours the following day, presumably after guests checked out. As one member in my group was sick (almost warded at the hospital), I spent a HIGHLY uncomfortable 18 hours in the room with the sick member. We really badly needed a comfortable room, but were stuck in one with a pretty bad issue. The manager, Mr Adari, who checked me in the first night, attempted to rectify the situation by offering a late check-out option and access to their lounge. Additionally, a fruit plate was provided in the room we were moved to. The new room also faced the twin towers. While I appreciate the recovery efforts, I feel that the hotel fell short of the comfort and standards the Shangri-la brand provides. Would I book this hotel again the next time I visit - probably not.FromTHB 4,676

This was our second time choosing The Ritz-Carlton for a special occasion, and once again, it did not disappoint.
This visit was to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The last time we stayed here was for my birthday, and I still remember how exceptional the service and overall experience were. Because of that wonderful memory, we decided to return.
Prior to our arrival, I had only requested a small birthday cake for my husband. To our surprise, the hotel went far beyond our expectations. When we entered the room, we found beautiful balloon decorations, adorable towel art, a thoughtful birthday card, a delicious chocolate cake, and rose petals elegantly arranged around the room.
We were both genuinely touched and grateful for the effort and care put in by the team. These thoughtful details made the celebration even more memorable, and we took plenty of photos to cherish the wonderful memories created during our stay.
The hotel is also very well located in the heart of the city. A connected bridge from Level 1 provides easy access to Bukit Bintang within just a few minutes’ walk. Having stayed at several nearby hotels before, I can confidently say that The Ritz-Carlton remains our preferred choice. The location is convenient, the service is outstanding, and the room cleanliness is consistently excellent.
Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special and memorable. We truly appreciate the warm hospitality and attention to detail. We will definitely be back again for our next celebration.FromTHB 4,818

The location is fantastic, right on Bukit Bintang Street. The subway and monorail are nearby, making it super convenient to get anywhere. It gets really lively at night. There's a mall just 50 meters away with tons of food options and all sorts of brand-name stores. The hotel itself is very clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
However, the curtains in my room were a bit odd; the blackout curtain was on the outside, and the sheer curtain was on the inside. So, to block out the light, you had to open the sheer curtain first. It really should be the other way around. Also, my room was incredibly cold. I called them to fix it, and even after setting the thermostat to 30 degrees, it was still a bit chilly, though much better than before. The lights in my room were controlled by a remote-like device on the wall (see picture) instead of a traditional switch. The problem is, if you wake up at night, it's easy to press the wrong button.
On the bright side, the pool water was very clean. Overall, I'm quite satisfied. If I visit Kuala Lumpur again, I would definitely stay at this hotel.FromTHB 3,869

Service: There's a front desk, making check-in and check-out very convenient. Environment: It's 400 meters from the subway station, a 15-minute walk to Pavilion KL, and other attractions are also nearby. Facilities: The hotel doesn't provide disposable toiletries or slippers, but it does have a washing machine. Hygiene: The hygiene is quite poor. The bathroom had a strange smell, and there were especially many cockroaches, countless cockroaches.FromTHB 1,125

The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic, very close to both the Petronas Twin Towers and Pavilion Mall. It rained on our second day, but the hotel has a skybridge directly connected to the mall, so we didn't even need an umbrella! The breakfast and bars are also excellent, especially the rooftop bar. You get a direct view of the Twin Towers, and the visual effect is stunning. There's a handsome Malaysian waiter named Yugesh at the bar who recommended several super delicious cocktails to us, and they were all great value for money. On the day we left, I accidentally knocked over a shower gel bottle while rushing to check out. When we checked out, the two handsome guys at the front desk kept asking if we were hurt and said not to worry about the bottle. It really warmed my heart – the service at a five-star hotel truly is a cut above the rest! 👍👍FromTHB 9,607

Flora by Crossroads Hotel is in a very good and convenient location, which makes it easy for travelers who are always on the go. However, the room cleanliness could be improved. The tiles had visible mold, the bed sheets had stains, and the window did not appear to be properly cleaned. On a positive note, the receptionist was very nice, respectful, and accommodating. Overall, if you are traveling, spending most of your time outside, and simply need a place to store your belongings and rest for a while, this hotel can still be a practical option.FromTHB 567
FAQs about Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
-
Do you still need MDAC to enter Malaysia?
Yes. The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) remains a mandatory requirement for all foreign nationals entering Malaysia in 2026. Implemented on December 1, 2023, it fully replaced the paper arrival card system and applies to all entry modes (air, land, sea). -
What is the MDAC official website?
The only official MDAC website is https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main, operated by Malaysia's Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia). All other platforms are unauthorized and may be scams. -
What does MDAC do?
MDAC is an electronic immigration form that records essential traveler information (personal details, travel itinerary, accommodation, health status) for Malaysian immigration authorities. It enables faster processing at immigration counters and self-service auto gates, replaces outdated paper arrival cards, and enhances security. MDAC is separate from a visa—even visa-exempt travelers must complete it before arrival. -
Is there a fee for MDAC?
No. Submitting the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) via the official portal is completely free. Any website, agency, or service charging a fee for MDAC is fraudulent and offers no real benefits—Malaysian Immigration does not charge for this mandatory form.
