Yes, all foreign nationals traveling to Malaysia in 2026 are required to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC). Since its launch on December 1, 2023, the MDAC has completely replaced the old paper arrival cards and is now a mandatory immigration step—please note, it is not a visa. Whether you're arriving by air, land, or sea, this requirement applies to everyone, including tourists, business travelers, students, and those holding work passes.

Every traveler needs their own MDAC, including infants and young children—group submissions aren't available, so please make sure each person completes their own form!

Exceptions (no MDAC required):

  • Malaysian citizens and permanent residents
  • Travelers in transit who stay within the international transit area without passing through Malaysian immigration
  • Diplomats and official government representatives with special entry privileges

What is the MDAC, and How Does It Work?

MDAC Guide for International Travelers

Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia

The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) is an electronic immigration form created by Malaysia's Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia) to make your border crossing smoother and keep travel secure. It serves three main purposes:

  1. Captures essential traveler information—like personal details, your travel itinerary, accommodation plans, and health status—to share with immigration authorities.
  2. Speed through immigration and breeze past the lines at self-service auto gates (for eligible travelers)!
  3. Say goodbye to old-school paper arrival cards and hello to a smoother journey—this change cuts down on wait times while being kinder to the planet!

Keep in mind that the MDAC is completely separate from a visa—even if you're a visa-exempt traveler, you'll still need to complete it before you arrive.

When Should You Apply for and Submit Your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card?

When Should You Submit Your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card?

Source: Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

You can submit your MDAC starting 72 hours (3 days) before your arrival in Malaysia, including the day you land. To keep your details up to date, the official system won't accept any submissions made before this window opens.

For example, if your flight touches down in Kuala Lumpur on March 1, you’re all set to submit your MDAC starting February 28.
For a stress-free journey, be sure to submit your MDAC 1-2 days before you arrive. It’s best to avoid last-minute submissions—like while you're at airport check-in—to steer clear of any potential delays caused by Internet connectivity issues or form errors.

How to Complete and Submit Your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) Online | Source: MDAC Malaysia

Follow these simple steps to complete your MDAC with ease—just a heads-up that your core personal details can't be changed once submitted, so be sure to double-check everything before you hit that final button!

Step 1: Keep an eye out for the 72-hour submission window

Please make sure to access the official MDAC portal within 72 hours of your arrival, as any submissions made before this window will not be accepted.

Step 2: Head over to the official MDAC website

Head over to https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main and click "Register" to kick off your application process.

Step 3: Get Your Details Ready

Get these details ready before you start to ensure a smooth, delay-free experience:

    • Personal details: Passport number, full legal name (exactly as it appears on your passport), date of birth, nationality, gender, international contact number, and email address.
    • Travel Details: Arrival date, mode of travel (air/land/sea), flight/vehicle/ferry number, country of departure, and your planned departure date
    • Where you're staying: Please provide the full address in Malaysia (including state, city, postcode, and street) or the hotel name along with the city.
    • Health: Your recent travel history, current health status, and any important vaccination details

Note: Please use the spelling or transliteration exactly as it appears on the MRZ line of your passport. Avoid using special characters, accents, or nicknames, and ensure all letters in alphanumeric fields are in uppercase.

Step 4: Time to fill in your details

Simply fill in your personal, travel, accommodation, and health details as the form guides you—just keep an eye out for the fields marked with an *, as these are required. Please be sure to answer all health declaration questions honestly, as providing false information could lead to fines or even being denied entry.

Step 5: Take a quick look and confirm your details

Take a moment to double-check every field for any typos or mismatches, especially your passport number and name—this is the most common reason for submission hiccups. Once you've hit submit, you won't be able to edit core personal details like your name, passport number, date of birth, or nationality, so please review everything carefully! Only minor updates, such as flight times, can be made before you arrive.

Step 6: Submit your details and get your PIN code

Once you've reviewed everything, just hit Submit! You'll receive a PIN code via email right away—be sure to keep it handy, as you'll need it to access your confirmation later.

Step 7: Double-check your details and save your confirmation

Head back to the MDAC website and click "Check Registration" in the top right corner. Simply enter your passport number and PIN code to view, download, or print your confirmation document, which includes your unique QR code. We recommend saving the PDF to your phone or tablet for easy offline access, and printing a physical copy as a backup—you’ll need it for a smooth airline check-in and immigration clearance!

Everything You Need to Know About the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

Everything You Need to Know About the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

Getting ready for your trip? The requirements for the MDAC involve two key sets of rules: the MDAC submission guidelines (to ensure you fill out the form correctly) and the general Malaysia entry requirements (to help you breeze through immigration after you've submitted your form). Please keep in mind that all these rules are strictly enforced by Malaysian Immigration.

    MDAC Submission Guidelines

    • Please be sure to submit your information only through the official MDAC portal, as no other channels are accepted.
    • To ensure your trip goes off without a hitch, please double-check that all your information—including spelling, numbers, and dates—matches your passport exactly.
    • Please be sure to provide honest and accurate health and travel information. Keep in mind that false declarations are a violation of Malaysian law and could lead to fines or even being denied entry.
    • There is no fee to submit your application—any request for payment is fraudulent.
    • Every traveler needs to complete their own form, as group submissions aren't available. For more details, visit mdac-malaysia.com.

Malaysia Entry Requirements: Everything You Need for a Smooth Immigration Clearance

    • Valid passport: Make sure it has at least 6 months of validity remaining from your arrival date and is in great shape (no tears, water damage, or missing pages).
    • Return or onward ticket: You'll need to show proof that you're leaving Malaysia (either a digital or printed copy). If you're traveling on a one-way ticket, be prepared to share your travel plans and provide proof of your onward journey.
    • Visa (if required): Remember, the MDAC is completely separate from a visa—so if your nationality isn't visa-exempt, please double-check that your visa is valid before you travel.
    • Heads up! Malaysian Immigration may occasionally conduct random checks to ensure you have sufficient funds for your trip. It’s a good idea to be prepared to show proof of 10,000 MYR per person, or 20,000 MYR per family (for groups of 2 or more), either in cash or the equivalent in foreign currency.
    • MDAC confirmation: Make sure you have a digital or printed copy with your QR code handy—you’ll definitely need this for a smooth immigration clearance!

Is There a Fee for the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)?

Good news: there is absolutely no fee to submit your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) through the official portal! Please be aware that any website or service asking you to pay for an MDAC is unauthorized and fraudulent. These third-party sites offer no extra perks and certainly won't speed up your submission or arrival process, so be sure to stick to the official channel.

Essential Tips for Your Arrival in Malaysia

Follow these simple tips for a smooth and stress-free immigration experience in Malaysia:

    1. Keep your MDAC QR code and passport handy! Have both ready for airline check-in (staff may need to verify them) and immigration. A pro tip: save the QR code in your phone’s photo gallery so it’s accessible offline, and tuck a printed copy into your passport holder for extra peace of mind.
    2. Get Organized: Keep your MDAC confirmation, passport, visa (if applicable), return ticket, and hotel booking all in one handy pouch. It’s the perfect way to breeze through the immigration counter without any last-minute scrambling!
    3. Get to know the self-service auto gate rules: If you’re 16 or older, hold an e-passport (with a chip), and have already provided your biometrics (fingerprints/photo) to Malaysian Immigration, you’re all set to breeze through the auto gates! If it’s your first time visiting, you’ll just need to head to the manual immigration counters to get cleared.
    4. Be ready to answer immigration questions with confidence: Officers might ask a few straightforward questions, like “Where are you staying?”, “How long will you be in Malaysia?”, or “What is the purpose of your visit?”. Just have a clear, concise answer prepared—something like, “I’m staying at a hotel in Penang for 5 days for a vacation.”
    5. Be ready for random checks: Keep your proof of funds and hotel booking handy. While these checks are hit-or-miss, being prepared is the best way to breeze through and avoid any hold-ups!
    6. Get to the airport early: For international flights to Malaysia, aim to arrive 3 hours before your departure. This gives you plenty of breathing room to handle any last-minute MDAC hiccups—like quickly resubmitting if you spot a minor error—and ensures a smooth, stress-free check-in.

It's okay hotel but old fashion, I will not recommend this hotel to my friends. I found ants 🐜 on the bathroom, don't know what was going on. It's walking away to Petronas twin tower, perhaps 5 minutes walk. Restaurant in front of hotel, muslim cemetery behind the hotel, parking lot beside the hotel on the left side, on going construction on the right side of the hotel. I will not staying in this hotel anymore. Perhaps it's 5 star 15 years ago, not now.

We stayed at The Face Suites for 3 days and 2 nights with our two kids and overall it was a pleasant experience. The suite was very spacious and family-friendly, giving the kids plenty of room to move around comfortably. One of the highlights was the bathroom, which came with a bathtub that was much larger than those typically found in most hotels. Our booking included breakfast. The breakfast buffet was served in another building, so guests need to walk across to enjoy their meal. However, the spread was good with a variety of choices and it is halal-certified. The rooftop swimming pool and bar were popular and often crowded, mainly because of the stunning city views. From the pool area, you can enjoy views of Merdeka 118 and, from certain angles, the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. The location is decent but it may be a bit far if you plan to walk to major attractions such as Suria KLCC or Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Depending on your walking pace, it can take around 20 to 30 minutes on foot. One area that could be improved is the room and bathroom flooring. The floors were quite slippery, so I would recommend using the slippers provided by the hotel instead of walking barefoot. It felt like the floors could have been cleaned or scrubbed more thoroughly. Overall, The Face Suites is a great choice for families looking for a spacious stay with beautiful rooftop views and a good breakfast selection.

Upon check-in, the reception staff directed me to the wrong lift, so I couldn't access my room floor. I ended up spending quite a while figuring out which lift I was supposed to use. The hotel only has three lifts serving more than 20 guest floors, so it was quite difficult to get one during the morning peak hours. The room itself was fairly standard, but the bathroom drainage was a major downside. The shower drains very slowly, and after just five minutes of showering, water had already pooled up, leaving my feet submerged. The poor drainage made the shower experience quite unpleasant. That said, the restaurant staff were warm, friendly, and attentive throughout my stay. The food was also good overall, with a nice variety and satisfying quality. Their excellent service definitely left a positive impression.

The lobby is impressive, and the location is super convenient, right across from Pavilion Mall. There's a skybridge directly to KLCC, so you don't have to walk in the sun, and it even has a light AC breeze. The lobby offers Chinese-speaking staff, and the breakfast servers bring fresh-out-of-the-oven croissants, which is a nice touch. I emailed them in advance about my child's birthday, and they provided a simple birthday setup and a cake, which I really appreciate.

The hotel Pacific Express Central Market prime position is its biggest selling point—it is perfectly situated within close proximity to Pasar Seni and Masjid Jamek LRT, and it so near Central Market(walking distance less than a mins. To petaling street(china town) 10mins When it comes to dining, there is absolutely no need to worry at all, even if you’re not a particularly picky eater. The area surrounding hotel is teeming with a diverse array of food stores, local eateries and cozy restaurants, offering an extensive selection of delicious cuisines to suit all tastes, you’ll find plenty of wonderful dining options just a short walk away. Overall my stay at Pacific Express Hotel Central Market was perfect.(except the water heater is not function well, water flow hot for a while then cold again rm8521), other than that the room is spacious, with small refrigerator, nothing to compare with such nice room and reasonable price. The unrivaled location, convenient dining choices combine to create a truly wonderful living experience. Kuala Lumpur's 5-star hotels are generally on par with budget hotels back home in China. Most hotels in the 1000 RMB price range are pretty similar, so I already had expectations. The pillow had an odor, so I brought my own disposable sheets. Other than that, everything else was barely acceptable. The front desk staff was an Indian lady, and the Malaysian cleaning guy was quite responsible. The rooftop pool is small and not very clean; I saw an Indian guy without a swimming cap, so I don't recommend getting in. The breakfast offers a DIY hot pot, and the Teh Tarik (pulled tea) is quite good. You can blanch some wide noodles and other noodles. The main draw is its high value for money. There's a farmers market downstairs with a popular durian stall. I don't recommend walking to the Petronas Towers; it's too hot, and taking a taxi is much more convenient. I also don't recommend taking the subway, as different lines belong to different companies, and most transfers require exiting and re-purchasing tickets. For anything over 800 meters, I strongly recommend taking a taxi! I can't stress this enough!

Hotel Review Location: Excellent—just across the road from Kampung Baru food area, very convenient for foodies. Check-in: Allowed early check-in at 1:30 PM despite 3 PM standard time due to room availability. Much appreciated. Staff: Special mention to the staff member resembling celebrity singer Hafiz—excellent service, kept everything smooth and entertaining. Kudos. Room (1619): Connecting room arrangement was inconvenient; needed to prop the door open (1619,1620) TV in father's room not functioning (1618) Major issue: Strong sewage smell in bathroom—disturbing and needs immediate attention Toiletries: Initially not refilled—no lotion, body wash in my room; no shower gel or conditioner in dad's room. Staff replaced with hand-packed amenities. Appreciated the gesture. Food & Dining: Breakfast buffet: RM37.10—excellent value; surprisingly good nasi goreng (first time I enjoyed it) In-room dining: Nasi Goreng Tamu was good, but sambal prawn was too sweet Hotel breakfast preferred over outside options—area dominated by nasi padang, which isn't to our taste Overall: Okay stay. Responsive service on toiletries and excellent staff, but bathroom odor and room setup issues need fixing.

My stay was fairly average. The hotel has a good location and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was tidy upon arrival, but some areas could have been cleaner and better maintained. The mattress was comfortable, although the pillows were too soft for my preference. The bathroom was functional but showed signs of age, and a few amenities were missing. TLDR: Ceylonz is a great hotel, but the provider (Five Senses) is not. Book a different provider if you want to stay at Ceylonz. (Trip.com does not let me post videos, refer to the pictures below) Initial room conditions: When we first entered the room we encountered these things: - Leftover jacket from the previous guest(?) - stains on the chairs - water stains on the wardrobe - dead ants in the wardrobe - a flickering light Service: Because we chose to stay for 7 nights, we had a 1 free make-up room offered to us which we appreciated. However when we flagged up the issues we found on the first day, they gave us a make-up room on the second day and consumed our free make-up room without our choice. We wanted to use it in the middle of the trip like the 4th day. Because of this we had no toilet paper, tissue box was empty, towels were not replaced. After the 2nd day, they no longer replied to our texts when we enquired about using the sports lounge, requesting a makeup room, getting more toilet paper. Very bad service. After their make-up room, they removed the jacket and cleaned the seat stains, but they did not fix the light or clean the dead ants in the wardrobe. We understand fixing a light might not be possible but the ants were easily removable and we did it ourselves after they left. It felt like they were cutting corners as they also did not replace our tissue box, clean the dead ants or clean the water stains on the wardrobe. Ceylonz: The hotel comes with - nice pool, - 2 gym rooms with great views, - a minimart at the ground floor, - amazing location, walking distance from Bukit Bintang's Pavilion Room: - the amenities provided are not the same for every room, the last time we came there was a water dispenser and pull-out kitchen, this time there isn't (same five senses at ceylonz, same room type) - spacious - tall ceiling - well equipped - bay window - the walls are relatively soundproof so you cannot hear other rooms but the door is not and the hallway is very audible from inside the room, we can hear people chatting, checking in, pulling luggages Bed: - not soft, hard bed with springs - pillows and blanket is okay - uncomfortable bed We would have given this place a glowing review if they: - Stuck to their 1 complimentary makeup room offered - service: replied to our enquiries at all after the 2nd day - better room cleanliness/make-up room diligence: cleaned the dead ants and the water stains on the wardrobe

This is my 4th time staying at this hotel due to it’s strategic location. Level 4 has direct access to the skybridge connecting KLCC & Pavilion Bukit bintang. I have been a fan of its spacious room, however this time around I got an old room /not gone for renovation yet, the toilet door is out of track same goes to its wardrobe. The teabag is left opened, when I check in no replacement in two day of my stay. The pantry is so dry. I hope they can improve the old room like the rest at the 8th floor room king bed.

We had a comfortable stay at Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur overall. The highlight was definitely our room with the incredible Twin Towers view – waking up to that view was absolutely worth it. The staff were polite and kind throughout our stay. Housekeeping did a great job every day by replacing towels, replenishing bottled water, and keeping the room clean. Check-out was also very convenient as you simply drop your room cards into the box at reception. The only downside was the lack of soundproofing. We could clearly hear guests next door coughing, babies crying, and even people using the shower. Our room appeared to have an interconnecting door to the neighbouring room, which may have been the reason, although I'm not sure if this is the case for all rooms. Check-in felt a little underwhelming. The receptionist seemed quite tired, there wasn't much of a welcome, and we were simply asked whose name the booking was under before being handed our room cards. Also, the bell staff only assist with luggage if you request it. They do ask whether you need help, but unlike many hotels where assistance is offered more proactively, it's up to you to say yes. The room itself was comfortable, but some of the furniture looked quite dated. Even the telephone looked like something from the 1980s, which made the room feel older than expected. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, mainly because of the amazing location, stunning Twin Towers view and friendly staff. However, due to the poor soundproofing, we'd probably consider trying a different hotel on our next visit.

I saw reviews saying this Ritz-Carlton was the cheapest globally, so I booked a two-bedroom suite for a two-night stay and even made breakfast in the kitchen. Although it's a bit dated, the overall service was good, with housekeeping twice a day, in the morning and evening. The hotel is connected to the JW Marriott by a skybridge. If you cross the skybridge and exit through the mall beneath the Marriott, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is just across the street – fantastic for dining and shopping. There's even another skybridge behind Pavilion that leads to the Petronas Towers.

Prime location right in the heart of Bukit Bintang! Staying at the Grand Millennium made exploring Kuala Lumpur so convenient, with Pavilion and Lot 10 right on the doorstep. The rooms were spacious with fantastic city views, and the staff were exceptionally welcoming. Highly recommend for anyone visiting KL!

This is the best hotel in all of Kuala Lumpur!!! My husband, baby, and I stayed here, and these were the best accommodations in the entire city. We had already tried 5 different apartments in Kuala Lumpur by then, and nothing felt right. The cleanliness was perfect, and the views were magnificent – the best I've ever seen in my life. The staff was top-notch. They very quickly helped resolve an issue with the induction hob (the large burner wasn't working) and even provided a brand new small saucepan so I could cook for my baby. And all this happened almost at night! Thank you so much for your hospitality! Wishing you continued success!

Great value for money, clean and tidy. However, the toiletries are pretty basic. The twin beds can be combined into a large bed, but it's a tight fit. It's about a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the city center, which makes it quite affordable and comfortable in comparison. There's a coffee machine that dispenses hot water directly.

Situated in Chow Kit, WP Hotel is conveniently close to the city centre. Our room was immaculate, featuring pristine white walls and a very clean bathroom, with a wonderful view overlooking the Petronas Twin Towers. We also enjoyed our first dinner at one of the many local restaurants located just a short walk away.

I had a wonderful stay at Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur and it truly exceeded my expectations. The room was spacious, elegantly designed, and extremely comfortable, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning views of the city skyline. Every detail felt luxurious, from the bedding to the bathroom amenities, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast was absolutely amazing and definitely one of the highlights of my stay. There was a wide variety of options, from local favorites to international dishes, all prepared with great quality and attention to detail. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and delicious. The dining ambiance was also calm and refined, making it a perfect way to start the day. The hotel facilities were impressive, and the location was convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions, dining options, and transportation. The service was excellent — staff were always ready to assist with a smile, ensuring a pleasant and comfortable stay. Overall, the combination of a beautiful room and excellent breakfast made my stay memorable. I would highly recommend Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur for anyone looking for a luxurious and comfortable getaway in the heart of the city.

I didn’t really enjoy my stay at this hotel because it wasn’t very clean or comfortable. The shower was broken, and the mattress had bedbugs. The hotel also looked very different from the photos shown online. The toilet wasn’t clean, and the room was very dusty, which made the stay unpleasant. The only positive part of my experience was the service. The staff were friendly, helpful, and provided excellent service. I had no complaints about them.
