Sydney Packing Guide: What to Wear Year-Round

Sydney’s climate is as dynamic as the city itself. Whether you’re visiting during the sun-soaked summer or the crisp winter, packing the right clothing will ensure you’re ready for all the adventures Sydney has to offer. Here’s a handy guide to help you pack smartly for each season.

Sydney’s Seasons at a Glance

SeasonMonthsWeatherWhat to Pack
SummerDecember – FebruaryHot, sunny, and humid (25–35°C / 77–95°F)Light clothing, swimsuits, sunglasses, sunscreen, sandals, and a wide-brimmed hat.
AutumnMarch – MayMild and breezy (15–25°C / 59–77°F)Layers like light jackets, long-sleeve tops, jeans, and comfy walking shoes.
WinterJune – AugustCool and crisp (8–18°C / 46–64°F)Warm sweaters, coats, scarves, boots, and an umbrella for the occasional rain.
SpringSeptember – NovemberWarm and fresh (17–25°C / 63–77°F)Light layers, dresses, breathable shirts, sneakers, and a rain jacket.

Packing Tips for Sydney

  1. Summer Essentials: Don’t forget your beachwear! Sydney’s beaches are a must-visit, so pack flip-flops, a quick-dry towel, and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
  2. Winter Warmers: While Sydney winters are mild compared to many other cities, a cozy coat and layered outfits will keep you comfortable during cooler nights.
  3. Rain or Shine: Sydney’s weather can be unpredictable, especially in spring and autumn, so a compact umbrella or rain jacket is always a good idea.
  4. Comfortable Shoes: With so much to explore, from the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk to Darling Harbour, comfy footwear is a must.
  5. Evening Chic: Sydney has a vibrant dining and nightlife scene, so pack one or two dressy outfits for those upscale restaurants or rooftop bars.

Overall is good, but the elevator system restricting you to take pre-selected lift to your desired floor sounds no good .  My relative lives in different floor from mine, when we want to visit our relative we have to go down to the lobby floor and wait for him to come down also to the lobby floor to pick us up, and vice versa .

Great location, staff are friendly and helpful. Doorman, showed excellent service - he was very friendly and made sure we had umbrellas on a a rainy day. The room was nice and comfortable, and a generous size bed for two. Nice bathroom with bath tub, standing shower and separate toilet. The only pet peeve we had was that the ventilation in the bathroom was not that great, as there was a slight mouldy smell from the bathroom leaking in to the main room. The gym was small but very good as it had an abundance of equipment. There was filtered water and many apples for a post-workout snack, which was very convenient. However, all in all it was a pleasant stay and we would not hesitate to visit again, hopefully in a different room.

My husband and I stayed in Sofitel for 3 nights and everything was honestly 10/10. The staff are excellent - so friendly and helpful. They attended to all our needs. Special shoutout to Nia and Kla for being so friendly :) The place itself is luxurious and all the amenities were fantastic. The buffet was just phenomenal - they had everything you can ask for! One of the best breakfast buffets we have had and we have travelled all over the world. We felt spoilt for choice. We loved our stay here and definitely would highly recommend!! Oh and I can’t forget to mention that the location is super convenient surrounding Darling Harbour and Cockle Bay Wharf - had several places to eat and just an overall beautiful atmosphere.

I will absolutely stay there again! Beautiful hotel. Beautiful atmosphere and the room was a great size with everything thought of. Very very caring and attentive staff. They bent over backwards to help with my every need. Valet attendants were exceptional. The breakfast to go was reasonably priced. My only complaint and it’s so minuscule compared to the fabulous service - I would recommend some condiments for the mini croissants and some honey to go with the muesli and yoghurt.

Stayed for 13 days at Hyatt Regency Sydney and had a great overall experience. The room was compact but had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. I had a drainage issue in my first room, but the staff handled it promptly and even upgraded me to a room with a lovely view of Darling Harbour – really appreciated that gesture! The location is great – quiet enough to relax, but still just a short walk to the CBD, so it’s super convenient. One small thing to note: no dental kit was provided during my stay, so bring your own just in case. Otherwise, service was excellent and I’d happily stay here again!

Narrabeen|0.61km from downtown
It was close enough to go with friends. It was located within an hour from my job, and my friend said it was much better than traveling long distances. The area near Narrabin was a place I had always liked, and since I could see the seaside view from the room and veranda, I felt comfortable and happy as I half-opened the window curtains and looked out. Free parking is also a huge advantage. It was nice that the room was spacious and didn't feel like a stuffy hotel room, and they gave me a coupon for a free welcome drink, so it was convenient to use the bistro below. The advantage is that BWS is located right next to the building's parking lot. The reception staff at the hotel were also very friendly and were able to satisfactorily resolve any issues that arose when making a reservation. We searched for accommodation on Google and downloaded the website app that had the lowest price. We found a place that could accommodate 3 adults in 1 room and each had a bed, and paid for it. Our room consisted of 2 queen beds and 1 sofa bed and had a beach view. However, when I arrived at the local reception, they said that only 2 people had made a reservation, so an additional fee of $46 would be required. I quickly looked for the reservation completion letter email and found that it was correct, and they helped me resolve this issue. In the app, the number of people on the first page was set to 3 adults, but it seems that the setting is not maintained as the page changes, so the developer would like to check once more. ✔️

Requested for early check-in and was granted, with a free upgrade to Kings room! Wow! Madison even arranged to sent my wife birthday cake and a bottle of wine! Wow! Had a great dinner at Platform 818, they allowed us to bring our welcome drinks from the restaurant to the room, I felt like home here! We checked out via express key drop, went straight to airport, didn’t noticed the outstanding balance from dinner was declined charge due to my credit card problem. However the hotel was very patient and waited for my payment. Finally paid and we felt their service was exceptional! Hotel location excellent: beside Central station, lots of dining options, shopping at Coles, Metro to experience local living. Booked three rooms in total: 2 rooms with a queen size bed and 1 room with two single beds. The cleanliness of the rooms with queen size bed were not the best– lots of drain flies in one of the bathroom and not the cleanest; view was nice (on the 18th and 23th floor). On the other hand, the cleanliness of the room with two single beds was great and room looked newer for some reason; no view + gloomy at 5th floor. Other than that, all 3 rooms were very spacious and well-equipped (except that there isn't any hand wash and we had to purchase from convenience store). Location was great– walking distance to almost all the tourist attractions. Front desk was friendly and helpful as well. Overnight parking was a tad pricey.

The hotel boasts an excellent location, with a subway station conveniently situated right across the street and numerous attractions nearby. The lobby is quite grand. However, the view from our room was unfortunately obstructed by trees, leading to poor visibility and diminishing the supposed advantage of a park-view room. Breakfast was lavish, featuring a self-service station for fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Overall, the service was decent. But we had a very frustrating experience: during morning check-out, an elderly person in our group accidentally left a public transport card tucked inside their room key. When we returned in the evening to look for it, we received no help whatsoever. Their staff proved inflexible and unhelpful, especially when confronted with an urgent issue.

Most of the staff were lovely and well trained. Room was cosy and quiet at night. Fresh towels and clean bathroom. Easy and convenient location outside of CBD. This is the only big hotel in the area and there are some great restaurants nearby - Carmela, Margaret, Bill’s etc. usefully close to Chemist Warehouse for essentials you’ve forgotten. On the negative: It should be classed as 4* - quite cheaply constructed and maintained. Not what you might consider to be luxury. Rooms are dark,  with poorly thought out lighting; the carpet rarely vacuumed (if at all) during our five night stay. Hand held shower head spray nozzles were blocked, bathtub drain was also blocked. Sinks not very clean. Windows in room and dining room very dirty. Big construction site adjacent so we moved rooms to get away from the noise and view of the cranes. Overpriced hotel offering when you consider we could have booked the Capella in CBD at nearly the same rate as our suite, but nice to be away from the city.

I booked a room with a balcony but when I checked in they said it not available coz their system says standard twin room and showed then showers them My boking when they saw it they said they can’t provide that room on the first night so have to stay in a different room then they said they will bring my bags to the new room but ended up it was in the reception. That wrong system happens a couple of times already but they still haven’t fix the problem. Im not sure I’m gonna stay there again if ever I go back to Sydney. Their location was really good though.

clean room after the hotel was refurbished 2024.Close access to ezmart if you need some supply, 5 minutes walk to circular quay. If you use public transportation, Martin Place matro is just near the stree. For me it's a convenient transport. Though Soditel Wentworth doesn't have it's own gym,but partnering with Vergin Active provides pretty solid equipped gym facility, just be aware this is not 24hrs.

Overall, it was good, the staff were friendly, the accommodation was somewhat better than expected, didn't get to experience any other services or facilities. They provide free coffee and little biscuits at the lobby which is good for travellers waiting to check-in or airport transport. Their carpark is very tight, at 90° turn. They provide laundry services even though there is washing machine in the room, however, the washed clothings were returned in your original laundry bag used to put your dirty laundry.

The location is truly excellent, and with kitchen facilities, it's the perfect accommodation for trips lasting a week or more. However, the amenities were not provided in proportion to the number of guests, so we had to call daily to request more. Additionally, we were told there was no extra charge for coffee refills at the breakfast restaurant, but at checkout, we were informed of additional charges. Other than that, it was a decent place to stay.

Good transportation link with trains, subways and light rails for airport and Sydney centre. Nearby big Woolworths supermarket, shops, cafe and restaurants. Hotel is a little hard to find as it’s not a grand entrance and attached to a residential building complex. Staff are friendly with smiles, amenities workable though WiFi is a bit unstable but overall good value for money in such central location. There’s a roof top terrace w/a small pool too.
