Onyado Nono Matsumoto Natural Hot Spring

9.4/10
Amazing

Location - requires abit of walking from the train station, it is not the worst compared to other Onyado/Dormy Inns and was manageable for us. (The worst in my opinion, is the one at Sendai. The one in Kanazawa would require a taxi/bus ride from main JR station.) Reception staff - service attitude differs. In general, they do try their best. Some elude warmth and it reminds me of how Japan was before it was crowded with tourists. 1 or 2 individual younger staff look at tourists and our bags with an expression that seems like a combination of exasperation and derision, and that made me feel uncomfortable. Different Onyado(s) has different rules, this one does not require us to pass locker keys to the front desk which is great. All Onyado(s) tend to have this odd layout in the rooms whereby the TV is NOT aligned with our beds. We ended up not using the TV! I appreciate how this Onyado took note of my request for more pillows and they were ready in the room when I got there. (See picture - pillows in black bags.) The extra pillows are extremely essential because Onyado/Dormy Inn pillows tend to be extremely flat & provides little/no support. Breakfast spread was a little disappointing - there was very little fresh seafood (e.g. no mentaiko). Beef was too overcooked and the drink machine ran out of oolong tea the night before and was still not replenished at breakfast. Across the different Onyado(s)/Dormy Inns I have stayed at, breakfast at this one can be skipped.

The hotel's location is excellent, very close to Matsumoto Station, and there are many restaurants nearby. It's in a lively area but just far enough away not to be noisy. There's a popular cafe nearby; we went early the next morning to get a number. It's trendy but reasonably priced, and the coffee was really good. We stopped in Matsumoto briefly after hiking Kamikochi and before heading to Karuizawa. We'll definitely come back to properly experience this great place next time.

The hotel is nice and new, and the reception staff are polite and speak fluent English. Although the room is not very spacious, it is compact yet sufficient to accommodate two suitcases. It is a five-minute walk from the station and is located on the quieter side of the city. The hotel also provides free ramen or ice cream at night. However, the chef seemed unhappy, and his tone felt quite condescending when speaking English. Overall, it was a lovely stay!

It was the best. We booked a room with an open-air bath, so my parents and I could relax. The breakfast had a wide variety of options and we really enjoyed it. The jazz concert in the evening was a great surprise!

Fukashiso

Fukashiso could be one of the loveliest accommodation that I have ever stayed at. The staff were very polite, attentive and extremely helpful and courteous. The place itself is so beautiful and quaint. Traditional garments are provided as an option if you want to dress up for dinner. Made for great photo ops! The Kaiseki was the most beautiful equivalent of a degustation I’ve tried, and it was served in a lovely separate intimate dining area. During dinner Nobu-San a fourth generation family member of the owners greeted us which was a lovely touch. Soba was freshly made at the accomodation. We stayed two nights and the Kaiseki menu was different each time. Breakfast was a nice assortment of Japanese and Western options and the coffee machine was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the onsens, there are two public ones that switch locations for men and women and a private one. They were well equipped and relaxing. Our room was on Level 1 with a private bathroom, seating area and little garden view. Overall this place is highly recommended. For a traditional ryokan experience, it was so nice. Even after we checked out, the receptionist gave us a little gift, and even walked us outside to where our car was parked. Such a warm and lovely place. Stay here for sure!

Hotel M Matsumoto

Great

I recently stayed at Hotel M Matsumoto and had a wonderful experience. One of the biggest advantages of this hotel is its excellent location. It is conveniently located near Matsumoto Station, making it easy to travel around the city and visit nearby attractions. There are also plenty of cafes, restaurants, and convenience stores within walking distance. The staff were very friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay. I booked a private room, which offered much more space than a typical sleeping pod or capsule hotel. I was able to comfortably open my luggage, organize my belongings, and move around without feeling cramped. The room was also very quiet, allowing me to rest well after a long day of traveling and sightseeing. One of my favorite features of the hotel was the large public bath. It was a great place to relax and unwind after exploring the city. Although the hours for female guests were somewhat limited, I still really enjoyed having access to this facility. The common area was also very comfortable and well-maintained. Guests can borrow a wide selection of manga for free, which was a nice touch. Another great benefit is the complimentary bicycle rental service, allowing guests to use bicycles for up to three hours free of charge. Overall, I had a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend Hotel M Matsumoto to anyone planning to visit Matsumoto. The combination of its convenient location, comfortable rooms, excellent facilities, and friendly staff makes it a great choice for travelers.

By the time we got there by rental car it was quite late, the reception team has been patient and friendly. Suggest to have more illustrated print out for driving to the sightseeing parking lots and more maps to show before heading out. Plus the water machine is not very handy in giving out hot water for tea. Others are perfect in terms of room and environment.

Super Hotel Matsumoto Ekimae

The room is a bit like a small house in Tokyo, it is still crowded! The twin room is a twin room with a bunk bed, and the lower one will be bigger, the upper bunk will be a little narrower, but the bed is still very comfortable overall, and sleeps very well! Breakfast is free, starting at 6:30 in the morning, winter is different from summer, and the store notice shall prevail. But the price/performance ratio really has nothing to say. Is it a night of sleep or recommended 😃 also self-check in and then the room door lock password will be printed on a piece of paper, which is more convenient. The station is about 5 minutes away, it is still very close.

The room was a bit old but well-cleaned. Unfortunately, when I checked in, only smoking rooms were available, so there was a cigarette smell in the room. However, the staff was helpful and provided a scent spray. The breakfast was delicious and very diverse – I was really impressed! There's parking available next to the hotel for 750 yen per night.

Honestly, I can't praise this place enough. The owners are a really lovely couple; very welcoming and extremely helpful. The rooms are great - plenty of space and all the amenities you need for a short stay. The onsen is just the best - it's a private one that you can lock the door to and have to yourself for as long as you can cope with the hot water! But the *food* - wow! The food is absolutely fantastic and expertly cooked. Honestly, I've eaten in Michelin starred restaurants with food that wasn't as good as this. On top of that, at our first evening meal, we found that the message hadn't been relayed about my wife being a pescatarian. Anywhere else that might have been a problem, but within twenty-five minutes an entire new fish meal had been prepared and served - and was absolutely amazing. We were SO impressed. Also, what a truly beautiful location. Oh yes, and they have *monkeys*!! They wandered past the property in the evening and wandered back the next morning. I'm trying to name anything negative and I honestly can't - the closest thing I can think of is that the property is hard to locate and you definitely need a car to get there, but if you can get there, do - it was one of two equal-best places we've stayed at in Japan. Thank you to the owners (sorry, I never asked your names) for a wonderful stay in your home.
