Dadeshengfu · Ancient City Side · Mountain View Suite Boutique Stay (Dali Ancient City South Gate)

The hotel's location is excellent; you can drive right up to the entrance, and the parking lot is spacious with convenient charging. The owner is incredibly kind and helped us with our luggage. The rooms are large, impeccably clean, and free of any odors. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with a wet and dry separation. The lobby offers fruit and candy, which the kids loved, and the coffee was delicious. Highly recommend, especially after a friend's suggestion!

This hotel perfectly met our expectations! The courtyard is absolutely beautiful, and the surrounding area is lively with easy access to taxis and restaurants. It's also close to the pedestrian street, yet the hotel itself remains wonderfully quiet. The owner is incredibly friendly and easy to get along with. They have a washing machine but no dryer, so if you plan on doing laundry, I'd recommend bringing quick-drying clothes as they'll be dry overnight. It rained every day during our stay, and cotton items would probably take two days to dry. We stayed for five nights with our child, and our little one never got bored, often strolling in the courtyard or playing with the cats. We'll definitely stay here again on our next trip to Dali.

I'm a local and I stayed at Sanniu Island with my child during the off-season. This hotel offers great value for money and allows you to enjoy the lifestyle around Xindi Cafe. Compared to similar hotels, it's quite affordable. It's separated from Erhai Lake only by a lush, flowering green belt, so there's no noise from crowded corridors!

This was my first time in Yunnan, and I specifically chose this guesthouse because it's right next to a police station. The front desk staff was incredibly welcoming, helping us with our luggage and giving us great tips for sightseeing. The courtyard is spacious and quiet, and it's only about a ten-minute walk to the ancient city. I really wished I could have stayed another day or two if my itinerary wasn't already set. Coming back around 11 PM, almost all the streetlights were off, but the guesthouse still had a super bright light on at the entrance, which I found incredibly thoughtful. We woke up late, and the kitchen had thoughtfully saved breakfast for us. The breakfast was very plentiful and made fresh by local aunties. Their human touch really surpasses many large hotels. If I ever come back to Dali, or if friends visit, I will definitely highly recommend this guesthouse.

Dali Chuse Seaview Courtyard (Erhai Shuanglang Branch)

Ideally located just a 6-7 minute drive from Shuanglang Ancient Town, and facing Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, this guesthouse perfectly blends nature, art, and lifestyle aesthetics. From the interior furnishings to the courtyard layout, and even the coffee bar and viewing area, every detail reveals meticulous attention to detail. The courtyard is surrounded by greenery, with banana leaves and loquat trees arranged in a harmonious arrangement. Stone paths and water features complement each other beautifully, and the exposed wooden beams not only preserve the building's original texture but also give the space a sense of timeless quality. The rooms are fully equipped with toiletries, and the beds are of high quality. The owner is attentive and considerate, proactively helping us with our luggage and always ready to assist us. Before we left, he even took photos of our family, bringing a perfect end to our trip. (Photos of the room interior taken before check-out)

VOLVER RESORT

1. **Check-in Area:** The check-in counter, or front desk, was quite shabby. The computer keyboard was practically caked in grime, and don't even get me started on the sofa next to it – it looked very unhygienic. 2. **Dining:** The breakfast area was a bit cramped, with just four small tables by the street. If you're a party of more than two, you'd have to sit separately, or you might even have to stand and wait for a table. The coffee, however, was good. I only had breakfast once: a cold quinoa salad (see Photo 6) served with bread that had an overpowering artificial creamer flavor. I had been looking forward to the rice noodles for the next day, but serving didn't start until 8:30 AM, which was far too late for my rumbling stomach. Early risers and those who prefer hot meals should seriously consider other options or make alternative arrangements. 3. **Room (2nd floor) - Noise Issues:** Don't even think about getting any sleep at night. After 11 PM, there was still noise along the street, along with the clanging of the garbage truck. (Seriously, I'd strongly advise against staying in the Old Town.) The next day, it started pouring before dawn, and the sound of the heavy rain kept me awake as well. 4. **Room - Facility Issues:** The room I stayed in was supposedly the quietest in the entire hotel. It featured a large bathtub and a bathroom where the toilet and shower area lacked wet/dry separation. Unable to deal with the wet floor, I decided to shower in the bathtub. That's when I discovered Problem #1: the glass partition was completely transparent, with no curtain or frosted glass. The staff member claimed this was 'design.' Then came Fatal Problem #2: the bathtub had no running water, haha! 😄 5. **Room - Odor Issues:** Upon entering, there was a strong musty smell. The staff claimed it was due to 'raw wood,' but it's been 8 years and it still smells like that? Quite amusing. 6. **Staff (Pre-Check-in):** Before I even checked in, they asked me to cancel my booking on the platform and pay them privately for a discounted rate. I have this in writing. This is definitely a huge red flag, and I'm surprised they even dared to suggest it. 7. **Staff (General):** The individuals themselves were nice enough, but I was surprised to find that all the 'Jixiashan' staff were quite young, without uniforms, and seemingly without direct supervision, which gave a very disorganized and casual impression. 8. **Housekeeping:** I was quite satisfied with the housekeeping. Seeing the clean duvet and towels gave me peace of mind (P.S. the pillows were also comfortable). The hotel's facilities are very old; no matter how clean the bathroom tiles were, they still looked run-down, compounded by the dim lighting. Therefore, I feel the housekeeping staff here really have a tough job. 9. **Building Structure:** One morning, during a heavy downpour, when I opened my 2nd-floor room door, the entrance was essentially flooded up to my heels. It was quite a feat that the water didn't spread into the room. At night, there were no lights, so I had to grope my way back to the room along the dark corridor. It would be quite difficult for someone who doesn't remember their way (see Photos 1-2). 10. **Hotel Amenities:** One night, I heard the guest next door return, unable to open their door with the key, and had to call a staff member for help. They chatted for a bit outside the door before the staff member finally told the guest a 'trick': 'The key needs to be inserted a certain way, and the lock has a particular mechanism...' That's quite a struggle – needing a special technique just to get back to your room! 11. **Minor Details:** The room key had a very large, bulky leather tag attached to it. Absolutely no consideration for travelers on long journeys with limited luggage space. Who would want to carry such a bulky thing around? I originally had high hopes for the 'Jixiashan' brand. When I was in Shangri-La, I heard their Meili store had a collaboration with Kolon, which made me think they had good taste. This Dali Ancient City location is their first store, but it turned out to be such a low standard. Given the daily rate, I guess I understand why. This particular store cannot be found on 'Jixiashan's' mini-program; it's categorized under 'Wang Shenme Chuan Qu Le'.

The guesthouse itself is quite new, and all the facilities are well-equipped, fitting a modern aesthetic. The owner is very welcoming and even helped with our luggage. The breakfast provided was also great! It's incredibly convenient for exploring the area too. The location is easy to find, and you can get to Dali Ancient City in just a few minutes. There are also many food options nearby, so you'll be spoiled for choice within a short walk. Renting an electric scooter makes it easy to get anywhere! That's a huge plus! Erhai Lake is simply beautiful! I'll definitely be back again!

Milin Hotel

My wife and I are Americans and travel full time. This means we are usually in a new place every couple weeks. We spent 10 days at Milin and I cannot speak more highly of it. When we arrived we were warmly greeted and shown to our room. It was spacious, clean, and had many amenities I wouldn't expect for this price point. There were slippers for us, robes for our use, two washing machines and a dryer for our use as well as detergent. The view from the roof was fantastic seeing the beautiful Cangshan mountains with misty clouds rolling over them and a view of the three pagodas in the distance. The location is surpurb. You are close enough to Dali Ancient Town where you can walk to a huge variety of restaurants without the need of a Didi (Uber or Grab here). But you are also within meters of the main road from which you can summon a Didi to take you wherever you want. Each evening we were provided a delicious custom coffee or tea by our homestay host along with cake. The in room controls were surpurb with a 110 inch projector screen, remotes for everything included heated floors. Everything was controlled by a smart device (like an Alexa). The only funny thing is that the smart device only speaks Mandarin and I definitely do not 🤣. The attempt to get Google Gemini to translate merely resulted in my two phones and the device speaking in Chinese and me having no idea what was happening. But even without the smart device, I was able to project my phone and laptop to the screen. Beyond the room quality and other perks like cake, the homestay family was fantastic. It is a husband and wife team with the father helping and an adorable son. During our stay we needed a prescription refilled and as I mentioned, we don't speak Chinese. They helped us navigate the process and within a day the medication was delivered. We also purchased an antique mask at a shop and they helped us navigate shipping back to the states. I cannot think of another place we have stayed with this kind of service and hospitality. As a westerner I felt so at home here for our 10 nights in Dali and would highly recommend Milin Hotel to anyone else looking to stay near Dali Ancient Town!

Dali Xicheng Past Life Aesthetic Designer Boutique Stay (Erhai Lake Ecological Corridor)

The location is fantastic, with an ecological corridor right outside the door, making it so convenient for morning and evening walks! The room was very quiet, and the breakfast rice noodles were freshly cooked daily. The breakfast they provided was delicious, much better than what you'd get outside. The coffee served with afternoon tea was also fragrant. The front desk guy enthusiastically recommended some off-the-beaten-path trails in Sea Tongue Park and even helped borrow an umbrella on rainy days. Perfect attention to detail!

We took a Didi taxi from Dali High-Speed Railway Station to Huafang Guniang Bar (Flower House Girl Bar). Normally, the trip takes about 45 minutes, but because of heavy traffic, it ended up taking us around 90 minutes. When booking a Didi taxi, it’s important to be careful with this destination since there’s another place with the same name in Lijiang city. Also, it’s better not to use “Bu Xian Shan” as the destination, because this can confuse the driver. When we arrived, the guesthouse staff, Zhou Zhou and Xiao Peng, were already waiting for us. They kindly guided us to the guesthouse by walking which was only about a three-minute walk away. They even helped us download an English version of the local map, Amap which was really thoughtful and made it much easier for us to get around. On top of that, they told us about local activities and food options, which was super helpful. The guesthouse has a really great location. It’s very close to Yu’er Road, which is one of the busiest and most popular streets in Dali Ancient City. Other well-known nearby streets include Renmin Road, Fuxing Road, and Huguo Road, which is also called Foreigner Street. Being so close to these main streets makes exploring the city really convenient. There are plenty of restaurants near the guesthouse, so you won’t have trouble finding somewhere to eat. Some of the nearby places even offer BBQ, which is really convenient if you want a casual meal without going far. The room that we booked was big and had a spa and mountain view. Unfortunately, the built-in jets that created massaging, bubbling streams were not working. There was a free-wifi but the signal was weak in our room.
