Anhui Chengkan| The most worthwhile treasure secret in Huizhou ancient village
|The most worthwhile treasure secret in Huizhou ancient village. Anhui Chengkan| The most worthwhile treasure secret in Huizhou ancient village
✨I would like to call Chengkan the ceiling of Anhui ancient villages
The scenery of Chengkan is indeed better than Hongcun without being overly commercialized, giving a more atmospheric and experiential feel when touring
Chengkan satisfies all your fantasies about Huizhou ancient towns
🍃Small bridges and flowing water, winding paths leading to secluded spots, large courtyards, ancient trees and lotus ponds..... Wandering through the carved beams and painted buildings, the ancient lanes
The distant white clouds and beautiful peaks are like a painting, serving as a clear backdrop. At the end of the alley, a sudden open view of the ancient bridge and lotus pond comes into view. Crossing the ancient bridge, you can see Anhui's famous rural landscape "Sun-drying Autumn"
✌️Chengkan, originally named Longxi, is known as "the first village in the south of the Yangtze River" and "the hometown of national treasures". It is the only well-preserved Ming Dynasty ancient village in the country, gathering different architectural styles of Huizhou and "three carvings", and also has the beautiful wish for tourists of "touring Chengkan without any obstacles in life"
⛳Address: No. 78, Baolun Road, Huizhou District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province
🎫Ticket: 107 (discounts available for staying in Chengkan)
🚃Transportation: There is a passenger transport center next to Huangshan North Station to go to Chengkan
Leaving blank is also a lifestyle‖Chengkan
16 kilometers away from Huangshan North Station, it has the reputation of "No mountain in the world after climbing Huangshan, no pit in life after visiting Chengkan". Chengkan is famous for its "wind" and "water", here preserves the traditional white walls and black tiles of Huizhou dwellings, the beautiful lotus pond moonlight of Pinghu stone bridge, and the characteristic autumn drying square makes it beautiful and spicy.
This is selected by National Geographic as the modern "Qingming Shanghe Tu"
Walk through Chengkan without pits in life, this seriously underestimated ancient town is not inferior to Hongcun, it is very comfortable without being commercialized. If you come to Huangshan, you must go to Chengkan.
Transportation: You can take a bullet train from Shangrao to Huangshan North Station for 48 minutes. After getting off the train, you can charter a car or take a taxi to Chengkan (30 minutes away).
Travel Guide
1 Chengkan is a small and sparsely populated scenic spot, it is not inferior to Tuling and Hongcun. Instead of crowding people, it is better to come here to feel the comfort of the real Jiangnan.
2 You can stay in Chengkan scenic spot at night, the cost performance is relatively high, so you can get up early to take pictures basically no one!
3 Hongcun still retains the ancient houses of the Song and Qing Dynasties, which makes people dream back to the Song Dynasty. 4 Here is full of Chinese style elements, small bridges and flowing water, spring river water warm duck prophet, bamboo raft ripples, thousand-year-old houses, Jiangnan water towns and other words can be found here.
Photography
1 Strongly recommend to take pictures of national style Hanfu here, very out of the picture
2 Long focus and drone shooting from different angles are also very out of the picture
Ticket‖Chengkan ticket 100 people can enter multiple times Chengkan
This ancient village that 90% of people don't know about, you must come!
Most people only know about Hongcun in Anhui, including myself, but it wasn't until I came here that I realized how unforgettable Chengkan is.
It is said that this is a gossip feng shui village with a unique name, "You Cheng Kan Yi Sheng Wu Kan", which has a special meaning. It is not as commercialized as Hongcun and has a more primitive atmosphere. There are also very few people, truly avoiding the crowds. It is not very big inside, and you may not need to stay in a hotel. You can finish exploring in two hours. We stayed at Shude Tang Hotel and felt that the privacy was very good. Tourists cannot enter from outside, and you can take photos all day inside.
Living here, you can occasionally hear the sound of a bell ringing. Upon inquiry, I found out that it is the "Peace Bell" in the scenic area. When it rains, it is very quiet here and there are not many tourists. You can only hear the occasional calls of the old actor geese brothers.
Perhaps, for people like us who enjoy peace, leisure, and admiring scenery, this place is just perfect. After the rain, mist lingers around the distant mountains, reflecting against the white walls and tiles, while nearby trees are lush and green, and lotus leaves emerge from the water. Sitting at the hotel entrance, one can spend a whole day watching a few big white geese swim around. Here, wearing a qipao and taking photos, holding an oiled-paper umbrella and strolling around, one can easily capture the feeling of Jiangnan's misty rain.
Staying at the hotel includes tickets and breakfast. If you come to play, the ticket seems to be 100/person. The food at the hotel is quite delicious, and the breakfast is simple and exquisite. There are many rooms of different sizes and styles, with prices above 1000. If it weren't for going to other places, I really want to stay for a few more days. We also took a lot of photos, and it feels like we can't post them all.
If I have the chance, I would like to bring my parents here for a visit. It's a great place to relax and unwind.
The beautiful scenery of Hongcun
Visiting Hongcun, there is a saying that one will have a life without obstacles.
This place is truly different from the misty Jiangnan of Suzhou and Hangzhou,
The ink-washed Jiangnan of the ancient villages in southern Anhui has its own unique charm,
My family and I really like this place.
Chengkan: A Hidden Gem of Ancient Village in Huizhou
In recent years, I have frequently visited Anhui, especially fond of this low-profile ancient village—Chengkan. It doesn't have the renown of Hongcun or Tachuan, yet it boasts picturesque scenery like a traditional Chinese ink painting.
🏯 The Charm of Chengkan:
- Chengkan is a typical representative of Hui-style architecture and is the oldest and most well-preserved Bagua Feng Shui ancient village in southern Anhui.
- During the Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi praised it as 'Chengkan, the village of double virtue, the number one village in the south of the Yangtze River.'
- The village retains its original ecology, without too much commercialization, making it a niche and traditionally charming place.
📷 Photo Spots:
- Every corner of Chengkan is like wallpaper, no photography skills needed, a casual snap is a beautiful view.
- The viewing platform, the small Hui-style village on the mountain top, and Yongxing Lake are all great places for photography.
🌟 Travel Tips:
- The alleys in the village are like a huge Bagua maze, it is recommended to hire a guide for the tour.
- Changchun Society, Huanxiu Bridge, and Baolun Pavilion are attractions not to be missed.
🚌 Public Transportation:
- There are direct bus routes to Chengkan from Huangshan North Station or Tunxi Airport.
Chengkan, a place that immerses you in the ancient villages of Huizhou. Pack your bags and let's explore this beautiful village together!🧳🌿
I love Chengkan, the number one ancient village in the south of the Yangtze River, even more than the famous Hongcun
Chengkan, listed as one of the most beautiful ancient villages by 'National Geographic', retains the beauty of the Huizhou-style architecture of southern Anhui. Compared to the bustling Hongcun, I prefer the quiet seclusion of this place!
📍Transportation
🚄Take the high-speed train to Huangshan North Station, then take bus 17 or a taxi for 20 minutes, heading to the Southwest Gate!

📍Photography Tips
📸Bagua Eight Gates: Both head-on and staggered shots look great

📍About Tickets
Catching the Huangshan tourism free ticket event is so satisfying The normal ticket price is 💰103
There are many local residents in the scenic area who will offer to guide you. If you don't need one, just firmly refuse, or they will keep following you
Chengkan has very little commercialization and still retains the simplicity of the village. It's less crowded and quiet, which is probably one of the reasons I like it here.
A place of utter devotion, no dreams can reach Huizhou! This place is probably the ultimate retreat. They say that visiting Chengkan, one will have no obstacles in life! I hope everyone is doing well
Chengkan | The mountain scenery is mysteriously veiled in rain, which is also quite extraordinary🪻
🌟This is my first visit to Chengkan, and I really like this ancient Huizhou town, which is not too commercialized and not overcrowded with tourists. Only by visiting this little-known ancient town recommended by National Geographic can you truly appreciate its splendor.
🚄Transportation: You can take the high-speed train directly to Huangshan North Station, and then it's about a 20-minute taxi ride to reach this fairy-like town in the south of the Yangtze River.
🌟We arrived in Chengkan on March 21, just in time for the blooming of the rapeseed flowers. The vast fields of rapeseed flowers with Huizhou-style architecture in the background make for incredibly beautiful photos. It was a rainy day when we arrived, and I was a bit disappointed at first. But the next morning, the mist was ethereal, and the fog over the mountains was dense, making for stunning photos that truly resembled ink paintings.
🌟You must stay in the village for one night, and wander leisurely through the ancient village the next morning. It's very quiet, with only the sound of birds and the gentle flow of the stream. You'll feel completely relaxed, breathing in the moist air, looking at the tranquil lake, and occasionally seeing a few ducks leisurely swimming by. I still can't forget the whole scene.
📷Chengkan Ancient Town Photography and Travel Guide
1️⃣: At the entrance of Chengkan village, there is a large pond that is covered with green lotus leaves in the summer, and groups of big white geese swim leisurely by, recreating the scenes from elementary school textbooks. This spot is also great for taking photos, capturing the peaceful reflection of the ancient village on the water surface.
2️⃣ At the entrance of the village, there is a Changxing Lake with several quaint stone bridges. Standing on one stone bridge, you can use a telephoto lens to capture the opposite bridge, giving the feeling of being in a painting.
3️⃣ Chengkan Bagua Village, where there are circles of round arches, paired with the simple and unsophisticated walls, is also a must-visit spot.
4️⃣ The Zhenjing Luodongshu Memorial Hall, known as the number one memorial hall in China, is very impressive with its carved beams and painted rafters, showcasing the beauty of ancient architecture and representing the pinnacle of Huizhou ancient architecture.
🎫The ticket price is 107, which is a bit expensive, but if you stay in a guesthouse in the village, the owner can help you buy it for 12 yuan cheaper. The village is not too commercialized, so there are not many shops, and it can be difficult to find a late-night snack, so it's a good idea to bring some snacks with you.
Chengkan Ancient Town | Truly deserving of its reputation as the number one village in the south of the Yangtze River, I will visit again
During those days in Chengkan, the sunshine was simply too splendid to describe🌞!
My friends and I plunged into this ancient village in the south of Anhui, as if stepping into a time tunnel✨. Did you know? There are 21 national key cultural relics here!🏛️ Strolling leisurely through this ancient village in spring, the willow trees by Yongxing Lake are so lush🌳, and the sunlight sprinkling on the rooftops is breathtakingly beautiful💖.
Honestly, I really like the ancient and narrow streets of Chengkan, as well as the ancestral halls and stone bridges, each exuding the charm of the years🏞️. Imagine the trees stretching out from the courtyards, casting a veil over the streets, the feeling is just amazing!😍 Moreover, this place has the most well-preserved Ming Dynasty architecture in the country, it's like traveling back to ancient times🏮.
You must visit Chengkan in spring! It was not only rated as the number one village in the south of the Yangtze River during the Song Dynasty, but it is also an ancient town in Huizhou, southern Anhui, that is seriously underrated🏠.

✨The Elegance of Chengkan✨
The bridges over Yongxing Lake, on sunny days the reflections of trees and houses on the lake surface are like a painting🖼️. The ink and brush of Wenyu Hall add a literary atmosphere to this place🖌️. Walking on the stone-paved roads, the footprints, one deep and one shallow, seem to echo the whispers of time👣.
📸There are many must-visit spots in Chengkan!
The Bagua archways are a must-see, 'Traveling through Chengkan, one's life will be without hardship', the 13 Bagua-shaped archways at the village entrance symbolize overcoming life's difficulties, which feels very meaningful!💪 There are also Yongxing Lake, Saiqiu Square, Luodong Shu Ancestral Hall, and the alleys, three streets and nine lanes of the village, each worth savoring👌.
📍The location of Chengkan is in Chengkan Ancient Town, Huangshan, Anhui, just search for '78 Baolun Road, Huizhou District, Huangshan City' in your navigation system📍. It's about a 20-minute taxi ride from Huangshan North Station, super convenient!🚗
I have already planned the tour route for you: starting from the entrance of the scenic area, first go to the viewing platform to overlook the panorama🏞️, then stroll along Yongxing Lake🚶♂️, and then go to Saiqiu Square to feel the joy of harvest🌾. Finally, delve into the ancient village and explore the cultural relics hidden in the streets and alleys🔍. In this ancient town in Anhui, I found the utopia in my heart
"Swim through Chengkan, then one's life will be without obstacles."
Before climbing Mount Huangshan, I decided on a whim to stay in Chengkan for a day to rest my feet
I didn't expect this niche ancient village to be such a pleasant surprise
-
Up close, white walls and black tiles, small bridges over flowing water
In the distance, clouds winding around mountain peaks, flocks of birds flying past
White fluff floating on green water, red lotus paddles stirring the clear waves
In the lotus pond, big white geese are swimming in an orderly manner
The utopia depicted in ancient poetry is probably just like this scene

I always thought Hongcun had the most rustic charm until I reached the end of Huizhou
Let me take you into an ancient village with even more rustic charm than Hongcun—Chengkan, and together we can experience the most authentic Huizhou atmosphere.
Chengkan, this ancient village praised by the Song dynasty Confucian scholar Zhu Xi as the number one village in the south of the Yangtze River, has preserved its most original ancient village appearance. Here, there is no strong commercial atmosphere or the hustle and bustle of crowds, just the rich, authentic atmosphere of the old village.
The entire village is laid out according to the Bagua, and Yongxing Lake is like a traditional Chinese ink painting of the south of the Yangtze. Here, you can admire the beauty of a few white geese gliding across the water, and walking on the stone-paved roads, you can carefully observe the tortoise shell-like patterns on the whitewashed mountain walls that are filled with a sense of history.
The residential houses by the street are surrounded by water channels on three sides, with villagers occasionally coming out to wash clothes, and the small green vegetables growing freely in the vegetable gardens, all of which showcase the tranquility and simplicity of this ancient village. The tour route includes the entrance, Yongxing Lake, the lower houses, Yanyi Hall, Zhongying Tower, Huanxiu Bridge, and Luodong Shu Ancestral Hall. Here, you can feel the unique charm of Huizhou life.
The ancient village scenery and the atmosphere of Chengkan make people linger and forget to return. Do you also want to come here to experience the life of Huizhou? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section!

Huizhou is a corner where one can travel to Chengkan and live without obstacles
Chengkan, originally named Longxi, was established during the Eastern Han and Three Kingdoms period, and has a history of over 1800 years. It was praised by the famous Neo-Confucian scholar Zhu Xi during the Song Dynasty as 'Chengkan, the village of double excellence, the number one village in the south of the Yangtze River.' It now has twenty-one national key cultural relics under protection and is known as the 'Hometown of National Treasures.'
As the first stop of this Huangshan trip, and also the closest 5A-rated site to Huangshan North Station, there is a bus service from the high-speed rail station, and it's about 15 kilometers by taxi.
Ticket price: 107 (103 for online booking)
Tips: In the first quarter of 2024, every Wednesday, all scenic spots in Huangshan are free of charge, but advance reservation is required (we went on Thursday and missed the event).
Let me share my personal experience. I visited Chengkan, Hongcun, and Xidi. Chengkan is relatively less commercialized and has the fewest tourists, making it very quiet. Apart from some local elders who insist on giving explanations when entering the village, which you can directly refuse, the rest of the journey is relatively tranquil. You can take a leisurely stroll to appreciate the ancient architecture, and it takes about 2-3 hours to tour around! There's no question of whether the ticket is worth it or not. If you like historical and cultural ancient buildings and enjoy a quiet stroll, then Chengkan is definitely for you~
The specific route is to follow the path straight from the entrance of the scenic area, passing the Bagua Gate, rapeseed flower fields, Yongxing Lake, Xia Wu, Yan Ji Tang, and Baolun Pavilion (Luo Dongshu Ancestral Hall). Keep your ticket as it will be checked at several points along the way~ Pay attention to a few important scenic spots, such as Xia Wu, which we thought was closed when we passed by, but nearby residents said it was open, perhaps just unattended at the time. Yan Ji Tang is in a small alley on the side of the road and is also easy to miss, followed by the last stop at Baolun Pavilion, which is the most worthwhile to see! (Luo Dongshu Ancestral Hall is also known as 'the number one famous ancestral hall in the south of the Yangtze River')
Here are a few recommended photo spots: the buildings at the entrance, Bagua Gate, rapeseed flower fields, Yongxing Lake, the Ruins Cafe, and Luo Dongshu Ancestral Hall!
Checked in at Huangshan Chengkan!
Huangshan Chengkan
Chengkan is a 5A tourist attraction in Huangshan. If friends visiting Huangshan have enough time, I still recommend taking a trip to Chengkan. The local architecture is quite distinctive and great for taking photos📸. It's a very characteristic small ancient town. Chengkan covers a large area, and it's very pleasant to walk through its streets and alleys. The area is residential with intermingled living, which is also very interesting. There are also many small attractions, ancestral halls, etc., and the tickets include entry to these sites for viewing.
In terms of transportation, Huangshan does not have a subway🚇. You can take a bus or a taxi, but the cost of living in Huangshan is not high. You can also rent a car for about 300 yuan for a whole day, and the car will be at your service all day long
Rated by 'National Geographic' as one of the most beautiful ancient villages in China, it is truly exceptional
Forever fascinated by the white walls and black tiles of Southern Anhui, it's like a scene from a poem or painting.
I flew to Anhui four times in one year, and I captured the spring of what I consider the most beautiful ancient village in the Jiangnan area!
Compared to famous ancient towns in Southern Anhui like Hongcun and Xidi, I prefer this secluded ancient village that not many people know about.
Location: Chengkan Ancient Village, Huangshan, Anhui
Transportation: Take the high-speed train directly to Huangshan North Station, then a twenty-minute taxi ride to the ancient village
I was already amazed when I came here in winter; the desolation of winter made the ancient village seem like a perfect retreat from the world. But coming here in spring, I was completely shocked by the ancient village surrounded by rapeseed flowers.
Who would understand! The golden rapeseed flowers, the green willows sprouting new shoots, the big white geese swimming leisurely in the ancient village pond, the white walls and black tiles, this must be the Jiangnan spring described by the ancients in their writings!
The beauty of Chengkan Ancient Village, rated by 'National Geographic' as one of the most beautiful ancient villages in China, is extraordinary!
🌼 Chengkan Ancient Village, a hidden paradise in Southern Anhui
'National Geographic' magazine once praised Chengkan Ancient Village as one of the most beautiful ancient villages in China. Its beauty lies not only in the quaint architecture with white walls and black tiles but also in the tranquility and poetic charm that is far from the hustle and bustle.
🚄 Travel Guide
- High-speed train: Directly reach Huangshan North Station, then take a taxi for about 20 minutes to arrive at the ancient village.
📷 Photography Tips for Chengkan Ancient Village
- Rapeseed flowers: There are rapeseed flowers both outside and inside the village. Outside is suitable for using a telephoto lens to capture the rapeseed flowers with the ancient village in the background, while inside the village, you can take close-up shots of the rapeseed flowers with the buildings.
- Pondside: The edge of the village pond is the best spot for photography, where you can capture the reflection of the ancient village, as well as the leisurely swimming white geese, the willow trees with new buds on the banks, filled with the breath of spring in the south of the Yangtze River.
🌅 Accommodation Recommendations
- Homestay experience: There are many homestays in the village. It is recommended to stay for one night to experience the night view of the ancient village and the sunrise in the early morning, and feel the different beauty of the ancient village in the south of the Yangtze River.
🏞️ The Unique Charm of Chengkan Ancient Village
- Secluded atmosphere: Chengkan Ancient Village has fewer tourists and is not as commercialized as Hongcun, retaining more of the secluded atmosphere of the ancient village.
- Breath of spring: In spring, rapeseed flowers bloom, the ancient village is surrounded by golden yellow, green willows sprout new buds, and white geese swim in the pond. This is the spring in the south of the Yangtze River described by ancient poets.
👫 Spring Invitation
- Spring travel: This spring, come to Chengkan Ancient Village with the most suitable person to experience the purest beauty of the ancient village in the south of the Yangtze River.
Chengkan Ancient Village, an ancient village rated by 'National Geographic' as one of the most beautiful in China, its beauty is not just a visual feast, but also a touch to the soul.
Compared to Hongcun, I have a deeper affection for this village that has been featured in the Spring Festival Gala, known as the number one village in the south of the Yangtze River!
Finally, I stepped into the ancient village of Southern Anhui depicted in poems, with deep courtyards, misty waters, intricately carved separate houses, and long water pavilions. At first glance, it feels like entering a world that is unforgettable!🏞️
Compared to Hongcun, this place has less commercial atmosphere and has well preserved its more primitive appearance. Among the many ancient towns and villages in Southern Anhui, Chengkan is like a village that has solidified the old times, stunningly beautiful without losing its simplicity.
📍Chengkan Ancient Town, Huangshan, Anhui
🎫Ticket: 107 RMB per person
🚘Transportation: Direct access from Huangshan North Station by bus route 17, note‼️ The last return trip is at five o'clock. If you are on a tight schedule, it is recommended to take a taxi, which costs about thirty to forty yuan.
The most famous aspect of the village is its Bagua layout design, surrounded by eight lush mountains, corresponding to the eight trigrams in the I Ching. There is a river in the village, dividing it into three streets and ninety-nine alleys, like a maze. From the air, it looks like a natural Bagua diagram.
This place was once the venue for the 2016 Spring Festival Gala, and 'Dad, Where Are We Going?' was also filmed here.
🗺️Tour route: Scenic entrance—Viewing platform—Yongxing Lake—Sun Drying Autumn Square—Ancient village (Huanxiu Bridge, Xiaowu, Luodong Shu Ancestral Hall, Zhongying Building, Yanyi Hall, Luodong Shu Ancestral Hall, etc.)
✅Viewing platform: You can overlook the entire panorama of the village. If you are lucky enough to encounter a rainy day, the distant mountains are shrouded in clouds and mist, and the ancient village below is like a Jiangnan ink painting.
✅Yongxing Lake: The water entrance of Chengkan, where lotuses bloom in summer, a pool of leisurely lotuses, detached from the mundane world. There are paths and small stone bridges in the lake, groups of white geese swim in the lake, and opposite is the Sun Drying Autumn Square, which has festive decorations in winter, creating a strong New Year atmosphere.
✅Luodong Shu Ancestral Hall: Known as the 'Number One Ancestral Hall in China,' it is the largest and most artistically exquisite private family ancestral hall. The Baolun Pavilion inside is the essence of the entire architectural complex, not only similar in form to the Taihe Hall of the Forbidden City, but the painted and carved beams are also exquisitely beautiful, all of them national treasures.
Tips📝: For those who want to take beautiful photos, it is recommended to visit on a rainy day or on a clear evening. Sitting on the ancient stone chairs, watching the setting sun cast a golden edge on the mottled walls, and under the night sky, the village is dotted with lights, quiet and warm.
I prefer this ancient village that doesn't require an entrance fee over Hongcun
Travel always brings unexpected surprises, like the hidden ancient village you discovered in Shexian, Huangshan, Anhui Province — Yangchan Tulou.🏞️✨ Compared to the bustling Huangshan and Hongcun, it is more peaceful and pristine, as if it were a paradise on earth. Yangchan Tulou
📍 Yangchan Tulou is located in Shexian, Huangshan, Anhui Province. The earthen houses here are built against the mountain, stacked layer upon layer, seemingly suspended in the sky, creating an illusion of a 'Castle in the Sky'.
🚗 For transportation, it is recommended to drive there yourself, as the road up the mountain is narrow. Although there are shuttle buses into the village, driving is more convenient. After arriving at the parking lot at the foot of the mountain, you can choose to walk or take a shuttle bus up the mountain.
🎫 Admission is free, which makes this place even more attractive.
📷 Travel tips:
1. In autumn and winter, you can watch the sunrise and the sea of clouds here. It is recommended to stay overnight to experience the morning sea of clouds spectacle.
2. The Hundred Steps Cloud Ladder is a signature spot of Yangchan Tulou, located below 'Wangyun Residence'.
3. At the top of the village, there are pavilions and platforms for drying crops in autumn, which are great places to watch the sunset and overlook the entire cluster of earthen buildings.
4. After 10 p.m., you can watch the bright starry sky here and relive the nights of your childhood in the countryside.
🏨 For accommodation, there are several homestays within the Tulou, but the wooden structures have poor sound insulation.

Don't want to work? Come play in Chengkan, a place that won't disappoint you
Chengkan is located at the southern foot of the Huangshan scenic area in Anhui and is a national 5A-level tourist attraction, integrating natural and cultural landscapes. Since the rise of Huizhou merchants after the Song Dynasty, Chengkan has stood out in the cultural and historical development of Huizhou. Chengkan, this small mountain village tucked away in a corner of Huizhou, has always been regarded as a geomantic treasure of Huizhou. Chengkan is the most well-preserved Ming dynasty ancient village in the country, retaining a group of ancient buildings with high historical research value from the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties.
Painter Liu Haisu said, 'One must visit Chengkan when ascending Mount Huang,' and writer Bi Shumin exclaimed, 'The place in China that one must visit is Chengkan!' The scenery of Chengkan is as picturesque as poetry, and in the misty rain, Chengkan appears even more mysterious, like a realm out of this world.
Compared to Hongcun, I love this Jiangnan village that has been on the Spring Festival Gala even more
🏰 Anhui Huangshan Chengkan ancient town, the long-standing secret of Jiangnan
Stepping into Chengkan ancient town, it's like traveling back to the ancient village in the south of the Yangtze River in poetry. The courtyard is deep, the water smoke is lingering, every carving and corridor reveals the traces of history. Compared with Hongcun, the commercial atmosphere here is not strong, retaining a more primitive appearance, beautiful and stunning, but not worldly.

Anhui's first village in the south of the Yangtze River, how amazing it is!
"A life of infatuation, no dream to Huizhou"
Because of this poem, I came to ancient Huizhou
Its essence is not in the ancient city, but in the ancient villages scattered in the mountains
Hongcun, Xidi, Bishan
And the "Chengkan" I went to today
Yes, it's that "life without bumps" place
It was highly praised by Zhu Xi as the first village in the south of the Yangtze River
It is also the first stop of my trip to southern Anhui

1. Chengkan has a history of 1800 years and was founded during the Three Kingdoms period
2. The Longxi River in the village is S-shaped, dividing the terrain into yin and yang sides, and there are eight mountains around the village, forming the natural Bagua layout of Chengkan Village
2. There is a peace ridge when you enter the village. After crossing this ridge, there will be no bumps in your life
3. There is a large lotus pond at the entrance of the village, which must be beautiful in summer. I will have the opportunity to go again in summer
4. There is a "Mr. Luo Dongshu Ancestral Hall" in the village, which is the first famous ancestral hall in the south of the Yangtze River. It was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. It is magnificent and large in scale. There is a dragon hidden in the stone pillar and wood carving. It was a big taboo outside the royal family at that time, which shows the wealth and status of the Luo family at that time

Chengkan is worth visiting, and the photos are very good. The next stop of the trip to southern Anhui is Xixi South, an ancient secluded village in Huizhou, which is known as the Chinese version of The Wizard of Oz
Mysterious Ancient Village Tour - Chengkan
📍Address: Chengkan Town, Huizhou District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province
🕗Opening hours: 07:30~17:30 (Stop admission at 17:00)
📝Play time: 2-3 hours
There are many famous ancient villages in Anhui, and Chengkan is one of the Huizhou ancient villages that left a deep impression on me. Compared with Hongcun and Xidi, this ancient village with a history of more than a thousand years is more original, with a relatively weak commercial atmosphere, which makes people feel the simplicity and tranquility of the ancient village.
✅Recommended scenic spots tour route: Bagua Village→Yongxing Lake→Sun Autumn Square→Ping'an Kan→Xia Wu→Yanyi Hall→Zhong Ying Building→Huanxiu Bridge→Luo Dongshu Ancestral Hall
🍴Food: Wang Yitiao Wonton, Ruins Coffee, Old Things, Food Quanjiu Mei, Luo Ji Dessert Shop, etc.
Entering Chengkan Village, the first thing that caught my eye was a group of ancient buildings with a well-arranged layout. The white walls and black tiles, the horse-head walls, every place is antique. Walking along the stone road, the shops and houses on both sides are old-fashioned structures, as if traveling through ancient times.
The most unique thing about Chengkan is its Bagua layout. The entire village is centered on the water mouth and built according to the shape of the Bagua array. The streets and alleys are crisscrossed, like a maze. Walking in it, there is always a mysterious feeling of 'the path leads to a secluded place'. It is said that the architectural layout here emphasizes the unity of heaven and man, pursuing the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
If you have a strong interest in the history and culture of Chengkan and want to have a deep understanding of the local customs, it is a good choice to hire a guide. Listen to their explanations. Because there are many streets and alleys here, it is easy to get lost, and many buildings have an interesting history or legend behind them. Listening to the guide's explanation, not only can you better understand the history and culture of Chengkan, but also avoid getting lost.
If you are interested in the history and culture of ancient villages and natural scenery, come to Chengkan for a walk, I believe you will fall in love with this beautiful ancient village.
🏞️Nearby attractions:
Huangshan Scenic Area: World Geopark, National AAAAA Scenic Spot, known as 'No mountain is worth seeing after returning from the Five Mountains, and no mountain is worth seeing after returning from Huangshan'.
Huizhou Ancient City: A representative of Huizhou architecture during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, an excellent place to explore Huizhou culture.
Xixi South Ancient Village: The real version of 'The Wizard of Oz', an ancient village with beautiful scenery surrounded by mountains and rivers.
Huangshan is the first choice for a lazy person's vacation
You can combine mountain climbing🏞 and boutique homestays in Huizhou villages🏡 in Huangshan. It's a 2~3 days short trip. I drove from Hefei to Huangshan, 🚖 and I like the feeling of driving after entering the mountain road, which is winding and has good scenery.
Huangshan
The path to the top of the mountain after taking the cable car is not too long, and there are not many steep climbs, so overall it doesn't feel too tiring. The clouds and mists are lingering, the beautiful scenery is hidden, and it is a well-known traditional scenic spot that is worth visiting.
There are many Huizhou villages around Huangshan, the most famous of which should be Hongcun. Although many tourists now feel that Hongcun has a heavy trace of commercialization, I think it is still quite representative from the perspective of architectural landscape. 🏯 Other choices for everyone include Xidi, Bishan, Lucun, Chengkan, and Huangling. I personally suggest that the choice of scenic spots can be combined with the choice of boutique homestays.
Chengkan, the most beautiful drying field in China!
Take advice, eat a full meal. When I arrived at Tangmo, seeing Chengkan so close, I decisively changed my plan and went to Chengkan first 😄
Chengkan has two national protections. Mr. Luo Dongshu's ancestral hall, national level four, is reasonable. The three-entry courtyard, the first time people see Baolunge, they usually will - 'Wow!' Chengkan's ancient residential buildings, national level five, several houses are worth checking in.
The lake area is beautiful, although after the autumn equinox, the remaining lotus still has frosty branches. 👍Take pictures casually, it looks good no matter how you shoot.
Now when you come to Chengkan, it's the Autumn Drying Festival, you can take a lot of good pictures. I didn't bring a camera on this trip, just used my phone to deal with it. I will come again in the future.
Chengkan Shude Hall Boutique Homestay
Chengkan Ancient Town in Huizhou District is a 5A-level ancient Huizhou tourism and cultural scenic spot, and also one of the best preserved ancient villages today. Zhu Xi, a Confucian scholar in the Southern Song Dynasty, once praised it as 'Chengkan Shuangxian Village, the first village in the south of the Yangtze River'.
The boutique homestay 'Shude Hall' where I stayed this time is on the right side of a large stele at the entrance of Chengkan Scenic Area. Without a guide, it is difficult for outsiders to find. But walking into this homestay, there is a different world inside. The quaint old house, a large lotus pond, and small bridges and flowing water are refreshing.
Shude Hall has a total of 7 old houses and 16 rooms. The owner of Shude Hall is Ms. Su. According to her, she couldn't find a suitable name for a long time. Later, when she returned to her hometown, her family discussed and said that they might as well use the name that has been passed down for many generations in their family, which is their own hall number, called Shude Hall.
The original meaning of Shu (fourth tone) is timely rain, and there is another pronunciation called Zhu (fourth tone), which means continuously injecting good things. It complements the word 'De', and also implies the expectations of the ancestors for the descendants.
The beautiful scenery of the lotus pond and the ancient Huizhou houses complement each other, and many guests linger here.
Chengkan
A great place to enjoy the autumn scenery, come and take a look
🌟Highlights:
I went with my family at the tail end of the National Day holiday, and it wasn't too crowded, so it's great for taking photos. Personally, I don't think it's overly commercialized. The autumn harvest is quite interesting, and the colors of the harvest add satisfaction in the clear season.
🚉Transportation strategy:
But when it comes to transportation, it feels a bit disappointing.
You can take a taxi from Tunxi city area, but it doesn't seem to be as timely on the return trip.
You can also take the Hui 17 bus from Huangshan North Station directly to Chengkan, but there are fewer buses, so pay attention to the picture.
The last bus of the 17 route from Chengkan is at 3:20 in the afternoon, you can also take the 1 bus to the 13 or 32 bus to Huangshan North Station, or take a taxi or drive.
You must visit Chengkan in Huizhou! Come and see this first village of Jiangnan in ink and wash painting
You must visit Chengkan in Huizhou! Come and see this first village of Jiangnan in ink and wash painting, a trip to Chengkan is a life without bumps, here is half the world of fireworks, half poetry and painting, pink walls and black tiles, small bridges and flowing water, ordinary lanes are full of poetry and beauty!
Many people only know about Hongcun, but not Chengkan. Chengkan, formerly known as 'Longxi', also known as 'Bagua Village', was founded at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty and has a history of more than 1800 years. Liu Haisu, a master of Chinese painting, once said: 'When you climb Huangshan, you must not miss Chengkan.' The residential houses in Huizhou are the best in the world, and the residential houses in Chengkan are the best in Huizhou. A walk through Chengkan is a life without bumps, a must-visit ancient village in Huizhou in a lifetime!
Hongcun, Xidi, Chengkan, Xixi tour all the way
I went in June, during the flood season.
🚗🚗🚗Travel route:
Day1: Huangshan North Station→Xidi
Turn right out of the train station, follow the crowd to the bus station, there is a bus directly to Xidi Scenic Area.
The commercialization of the scenic area is low, I ate small dumplings and stinky tofu according to the reviews, but the taste was too light, my favorite was Huiniang's private dishes.
The night light show is great, the archway there has a great atmosphere, it's like clubbing.
The accommodation in the scenic area I stayed in was an old house, it felt a bit stuffy.
Day2: Hongcun Scenic Area
The commercial atmosphere is strong, there are photo-taking, clothes-selling, and many old village attractions, be sure to take photos in advance, there is basically no light source here at night, unable to shoot.
Day3: Huangshan Scenic Area
Basically, it can't be turned around in a day, it is recommended to stay at the foot of the mountain and continue climbing the next day.
Day4: Emerald Valley→Chengkan
Emerald Valley is very stunning, the depth is indeed as clear as emerald, but the drop-off point is a bit far from the scenic area, it is best to carry less items.
Day5: Xixi South Ancient Village
The most worthwhile scenic spot, no tickets, locals like to come. Not only are there wetlands and old houses, but they are the buildings of my dreams. Although they are old-style buildings, they are large enough, and the newer houses all have the smell of logs. There is a place on the second floor where you can sit and enjoy the breeze, and you can observe the door when you stand up. The most beautiful is the pond next to it, the light and shadow are too absolute.
