Have You Tried the Famous Black Eggs?
Owakudani Black Eggs, a renowned culinary marvel, are eggs cooked in the steaming volcanic vents of Hakone's Owakudani area. Nestled amidst the rugged volcanic terrain and sulfurous fumes, these eggs undergo a unique transformation, acquiring their distinctive black shells due to a chemical reaction with the volcanic gases.
The taste of Owakudani Black Eggs is reminiscent of regular eggs but with a subtle richness and earthy undertones, attributed to the volcanic minerals permeating the shells during the cooking process. Locals and visitors alike savor these delicacies not only for their unique appearance but also for the cultural significance and purported health benefits, with legend suggesting that consuming one can add seven years to your life.
Visitors to Owakudani can enjoy these iconic eggs at designated stalls or shops situated near the volcanic vents. Here, they are freshly boiled in the natural geothermal steam, providing an interactive and sensory experience. Many opt to purchase these eggs in bundles, often sold in batches of five or more, symbolizing good luck and longevity.
The allure of Owakudani Black Eggs extends beyond their distinct appearance and taste; they embody a cultural tradition and a connection to the volcanic landscape of Hakone. Whether indulging in their unique flavor or embracing the folklore surrounding them, these eggs offer an experience that tantalizes both the palate and the imagination for visitors exploring the captivating wonders of Owakudani.
Eat long life black Egg
In the Owakudani area near the Hakone volcano there are places where hot smoke comes out of the ground (it's not a geyser) the smell of sulfur which scorches the ground in a yellow color. View of Lake Ashinoko and Mount Fujiyama in Japan. It is amazing, don't miss the cable car ride, boating on the lake and visiting the open museum. It is said that the Japanese cook eggs in the hot springs which gives them a black color. A belief holds that eating one egg adds 7 years to life. The place also has a restaurant and sells ice cream, which is also black in color. I will buy again black egg is very yummy and also for souvenir.

A Must to Owakudani
#celebratewithtrip
Beautiful place to visit. Owakudani, is a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents and hot springs, is the product of a volcanic eruption that occurred over 3,000 years ago.The peak is about 1044 meter high and you can see the inactive volcanoes and smokes coming out from the volcano.
The ropeway is a great experience especially on a sunny day. There are fantastic views of Fuji, souvenirs, and a chance to try a hot spring boiled egg - the black eggs or 黒卵.The rumor about the black egg is that if you have one black egg then your life expectancy will increase to extra 7 years. Its really very interesting rumor that almost 95% tourists buy Black eggs.
Really must visit once.

It is a must to buy these onsen eggs and if you do not eat eggs. You can at least take a nice photo with these black colored onsen eggs. The eggs are cooked in the hot spring water and it results in the eggs having black colored shell. This is because of the reaction with sulphur. These onsen eggs are perfectly alright for consumption. There are also other snacks too and one of them is the black color ice cream cone.
Wishing you a berry egg-prise!

Owakudani Valley
Owakudani (大涌谷, Ōwakudani) is the area around a crater created during the last eruption of Mount Hakone some 3000 years ago. Today, much of the area is an active volcanic zone where sulfurous fumes, hot springs and hot rivers can be experienced. Additionally, Owakudani has good views of Mount Fuji on clear days.
A short walking trail (about ten minutes one way) leads from the ropeway station into the volcanic zone to a number of steam vents and bubbling pools. Eggs cooked in these hot spring pools with their shells blackened by the sulfur are on sale at shops in Owakundai, and eating one is said to prolong one's life by seven years.Alternatively, about 30 minutes past the peak of Mount Kamiyama a trail splits off down towards Lake Ashinoko. It leads down the mountain and along the lakeshore, ending at Kojiri not far from Togendai, from where the Hakone Ropeway connects back to Owakudani. The round trip takes about 4.5 hours.
This is Owakudani Hakone! We are so lucky! I heard that the area has been closed for few days before we coming due to the too much gas! It's open now! Happy!
Owakudani is one of the most famous view points in Hakone, Japan where you can observe the intense volcanic activity from up close. As you approach Owakudani on the Hakone Ropeway, you could almost imagine you were arriving on an alien planet. The crater and it’s various arteries pulse, puffing out great clouds of sulfur. Due to volcanic gases, walking and hiking trails around Owakudani are currently closed to tourists. The Hakone Ropeway and shops and restaurants around Owakudani are operating as normal at this time. However, if you have respiratory problems, it is advised that you avoid the area due to the volcanic gases.

The 'Great Boiling Valley' was created 3000 years ago when Kami-yama erupted and collapsed, also forming Ashino-ko. Hydrogen sulphide steams from the yellow ground here (the yellow is crystallised sulphur) and the hot water is used to boil onsen tamago, eggs blackened in the sulphurous waters, which you can buy to eat from the tourist shops beside the ropeway station. On rare occasions Ōwakudani might be closed due to volcanic activity.
In 2024, I want to visit more cities in Japan.

Black Egg: Longevity 7 years
Owakudani is a very famous sightseeing spot in the Hakone area. It is the crater crater formed by the Hakone volcanic activity about 400,000 years ago. The air is filled with the smell of hydrogen sulfide rotten eggs. It is a very special landform.
The big black eggs of Owakudani are famous. The children's shoes that come to Tokyo will not be unfamiliar~ The eggs are cooked in hot springs, the eggshells are blackened, and the names of black eggs come from this. There is a legend in Japan that eating a black egg can prolong life for 7 years. Of course, this is a beautiful legend ~
Yuzi tea house in a bag of 500 yen, there are 5 eggs, with A bag of salt is included in the bag. When the eggs are hot, they are super fragrant, and the salt is delicious. After all, one can be extended for 7 years and must be eaten more! The store also has a small table that can stand and peel eggs, so that everyone can eat hot (Figure 5)
there are many specialties, such as black mask, black bread, black jade chocolate Wait, bought Tang Xinzi fried cake (a spicy seasoning) and dark bread, the bread is sweet and crunchy, very delicious, Tang Xinzi fried cake is very spicy, open a package and can not stop immediately to the bottom (laugh) The chocolate ice cream in their home is also quite popular. It was a little regret that I didnt buy it later.
The Owakudani Valley in Hakone, Japan, is a large crater with a large number of volcanic eruptions 3,000 years ago. Owakudani is still an active, boiling, sulfur-rich pool with huge vents that emit hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide from steam and volcanic fumes. Let the whole area have a strong egg flavor. The favorite of visitors to the big boiling valley is to eat the eggs here.
Owakudani Black eggs are regular eggs cooked in a natural hot pool. The sulfur in the water darkens the eggshell and gives it a special aroma. The locals said that eating this kind of egg can prolong life.
Eggs are cooked on the top of the mountain and visitors can go on foot or take the cableway. At the top of the mountain, you can see the magnificent mountain views. The most important thing is to eat eggs there. There is a common wooden table on the top of the mountain, where visitors can sit and eat eggs while watching the scenery. This black egg is very famous in Hakone, so these six bags of black eggs are sold in many shops in the local town, about 500 yen a bag.
Owakudani Valley is located in the city of Hakone in the southeast of Mount Fuji. It is the crater of the volcanic eruption that occurred at the end of the Hakone volcanic activity about 400,000 years ago. Also known as "Great Hell."
In the Hakone surrounded by green trees, only the mountain rocks are exposed, and the geothermal vapor sprayed between the rock seams is misty. From the cracks in the open crust, a large amount of sulfur vapor is sprayed to boil the spring water. It makes people feel that the life movement of the earth is spectacular. This allows you to see the beautiful scenery of Mount Fuji and the Hakone Mountains.
Hakone Owakudani continues to spray large amounts of water vapor and volcanic gas from the ground every day. Approaching the vicinity of Owakudani, you will smell the scent of sulfur in the volcano. The scenery of Mount Fuji from Owakudani is also spectacular.
At the Hakone Gora Station, take a section of the mountain railway and then go to the cable car. When you smell the smell of sulfur, you will arrive at the famous geothermal landscape of Owakudani. Hot spring black eggs are almost a speciality of the hand, 5 five hundred yen, really not expensive, there is a legend to eat one can increase life for 7 years, in fact, black eggs and ordinary eggs are no different. Because the mountains are often haunted by clouds, the chances of seeing Mount Fuji here are not so great, but we are still very lucky. The day before, it was still cloudy and rainy. Today, Mount Fuji is very revealing to the face!
