Singapore Plug Guide: What Do You Need to Know About Voltage and Adapters?

Author's Profile Picture
singapore plug

Heading to Singapore? Don’t forget to bring your Singapore power plug adapter! Unlike many countries, Singapore uses Type G power plugs, which have three rectangular prongs. This is different from the flat prong plugs used in countries like the US and Australia, so a travel adapter is a must if you want to charge your devices while exploring the city.

The standard voltage in Singapore is 230V, with a frequency of 50Hz. This means that if you’re coming from a country with a lower voltage (like the US or Japan), you may also need a voltage converter to avoid damaging your electronics.

Whether you’re powering up a laptop, phone, or camera, be sure to pack the right adapter for Singapore’s Type G sockets. With the proper adapter, you’ll stay powered up and ready to enjoy all the attractions, shopping, and food that Singapore has to offer!

Do You Need a Plug Adapter When Traveling to Singapore?

As an Australian traveler, you will need to consider both the plug type and voltage requirements when traveling to Singapore. Australia uses Type I plugs, which are different from the types used in Singapore. Singapore primarily uses Type G plugs, so it's important to prepare accordingly to ensure your devices can be used.

Here’s what you need to know:

Plug Types in Singapore:

Singapore uses Type G plugs, which have three rectangular prongs arranged in a triangular pattern. This is different from the Type I plugs used in Australia. Although some older buildings may still have different types of plugs, Type G is by far the most common.

Voltage in Singapore:

Singapore operates on 230V with a frequency of 50Hz. Australia also uses 230V (with a frequency of 50Hz), so your devices should generally work in Singapore without the need for a voltage converter. However, always check the voltage specifications for your devices to be sure.

Do You Need a Plug Adapter?

Since Australia uses Type I plugs (three flat pins) and Singapore uses Type G plugs (three rectangular pins), you will need a plug adapter to fit your Australian plug into Singapore's Type G sockets.

Here’s a breakdown:

Australian Plug TypePlug Type in SingaporeDo You Need an Adapter?Additional Notes
Type I (3 flat pins)Type G (3 rectangular pins)YesYou will need a Type G adapter for Singapore.
Voltage Compatibility230V, 50HzNo voltage converter neededBoth Australia and Singapore use 230V with 50Hz frequency, so your devices will work without a voltage converter.

Important Considerations:

  • Adapters: Australian plugs (Type I) will not fit in Singapore’s Type G sockets, so you will need a plug adapter. The most commonly required adapter is Type G.
  • Voltage: Since both Australia and Singapore operate on 230V with a 50Hz frequency, you don’t need to worry about voltage conversion for most devices (such as phones, laptops, and cameras). However, always check the label on your devices to make sure they can handle the voltage.

Recommended Plug Adapters for Australian Travelers:

  • Universal Travel Adapter: This is the most convenient option, as it works with multiple plug types (including Type G used in Singapore).
  • Type G Adapter: This is the most commonly needed adapter for Singapore and is usually sufficient for most electronic devices.

Summary:

As an Australian traveler, you will need a Type G plug adapter when traveling to Singapore. You don't need a voltage converter, as both countries use the same voltage standards (230V). Just make sure to carry the appropriate adapter to plug your devices into Singapore’s Type G outlets.

The Different Types of Power Plugs in Singapore

Singapore uses one primary type of power plug, the Type G plug, although you might encounter other plug types in certain situations. Below is a breakdown of the Type G plug, its characteristics, and where it is commonly used in Singapore.

Plug TypeDescriptionPinsCommonly Used InVoltage & Frequency
Type GThree rectangular pins arranged in a triangular pattern. It features an internal fuse for safety.3 rectangular pins (live, neutral, and ground)Most common in Singapore, used everywhere including hotels, homes, and public buildings230V, 50Hz

Type G Plug (The Most Common Plug in Singapore)

Type G Plug (The Most Common Plug in Singapore)

The Type G plug is the standard plug type in Singapore. It features three rectangular pins arranged in a triangular formation. This plug is grounded for safety, with the grounding pin being larger than the live and neutral pins. The Type G plug is commonly used in all types of buildings, from hotels to residential homes, and is found in almost every location in Singapore.

  • Voltage & Frequency: Singapore uses 230V with a frequency of 50Hz, which is the same as in many other countries like the UK, Australia, and much of Europe. If your devices are compatible with 230V, you can use them in Singapore without needing a voltage converter. Always check the voltage rating on your devices to ensure they will work with Singapore's power supply.

Voltage and Frequency in Singapore

Singapore operates on 230V with a frequency of 50Hz, the same as in the UK and many other countries. This is different from countries like the U.S., where the standard voltage is 110V. If your device is not compatible with 230V, you will need a voltage converter in addition to a plug adapter.

Which Plug Type to Use in Singapore

Most Common: The Type G plug is the most widely used plug in Singapore. This plug type is used throughout the country in all types of buildings, including hotels, offices, and homes.
Other Plug Types: While Type G is predominant, older buildings or some specialized appliances may feature other plug types, but these are not common and usually not a concern for most travelers.

Standard Socket in Singapore

Standard Socket in Singapore

In Singapore, the standard power socket is designed to accommodate Type G plugs. This means that travelers and locals alike can easily plug in their devices without the need for multiple adapters. The Type G socket is the only type used in Singapore, making it simple and straightforward for anyone visiting the country.
Here’s Why It’s Great:

  • One Socket for All: The Type G socket is compatible with all devices that require the standard three rectangular prongs. No need to worry about different plug types – as long as your device uses a Type G plug, you’ll be able to plug in easily.
  • Effortless Plugging In: Whether you're charging your phone, powering up your laptop, or using any other appliance, the Type G socket accommodates your devices. The three-prong system ensures a secure connection for your electrical devices, including those that require grounding.
  • Safety: The Type G socket features a grounding pin, which adds an extra layer of safety, especially for higher-power devices like laptops, irons, and electric kettles. This grounding ensures that there is minimal risk of electrical accidents, making it ideal for both everyday use and powerful appliances.
  • Widely Available: From hotels and shopping malls to offices and public spaces, you’ll find Type G sockets in virtually every location across Singapore. Whether you’re in a luxury hotel, a café, or a local guesthouse, you can expect the same reliable socket type, so you don’t have to hunt for adapters or worry about socket compatibility.
The Type G socket in Singapore is the only type of power socket you'll encounter, making it incredibly simple for travelers to plug in their devices. Its grounding feature ensures safety, and the wide availability of these sockets throughout the country means you won’t have to carry multiple adapters. Whether you’re staying in a hotel or at a café, Singapore’s standard socket provides a hassle-free and secure way to charge and power your devices.

Types of Travel Adapters for Singapore

When traveling to Singapore, you’ll need the right adapter to plug your devices into the local sockets. Since Singapore uses Type G plugs (three rectangular pins), you may need an adapter if your devices use a different plug type. Below is an overview of the types of travel adapters you may need for your trip to Singapore, based on your plug type.

Amazing Family-Friendly Stay! We had an overall very good experience staying at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront during our family trip. The hotel is truly family-friendly and made us feel very comfortable. The breakfast was also very good, with a nice variety that our whole family enjoyed. Overall, all the staff were very helpful and professional throughout our stay. Special thanks to Mr. Poh at the reception—he was incredibly friendly and helpful, even assisting us with a room upgrade which we really appreciated! Also, Mr. Vincent at the front door guest service always welcomed us warmly every time we entered or left the hotel. His hospitality made us feel right at home. We couldn’t wait to come back, and we’re already looking forward to our next stay next week in Singapore at this wonderful hotel again!

Every member of the Marina Bay Sands team we encountered went above and beyond, turning what could have been just another hotel stay into an unforgettable experience filled with care, comfort, and heart. A minor accident during our stay—when our daughter tripped over the carpet and had a nosebleed—was handled with exemplary care. The staff member from Express Service prioritized her safety and promptly coordinated housekeeping to assist us. The housekeeping lady who came to help was so humble and kind, even declining a tip for her hard work. Special recognition also goes to Service Management Team, Ms. Ella Barrientos, who followed up with a compassionate call, offered a thoughtful gift to cheer up our daughter, and even took care of cleaning her top. The warmth and humanity she showed meant so much to us, and we would also like to thank the laundry team for their assistance in removing the blood stain so efficiently. Our children’s first visit to Singapore has become a treasured memory thanks to the hotel’s exceptional hospitality.

A Cool Stay… If Only the Aircon Worked. Booked a stay here hoping for a relaxing weekend. What I got instead was a frustrating series of letdowns disguised as hospitality. To be fair, the check-in started strong. One front desk staff was warm and attentive. The other? Fully committed to ignoring me while I approached the counter. At least someone else noticed and waved me over with a smile — so thank you for that one moment of customer service. Excellent location. The room itself was decent, no city view (which we were fine with), a bathtub (nice touch), and a minibar with no complimentary snacks or drinks. But the real highlight? The air-conditioning. Or more accurately, the lack of it. The room was stuffy from the start. We tried adjusting the temperature, but it stubbornly returned to 24.5°C every time. We informed the front desk before leaving for dinner and clearly stated it was okay for someone to enter and fix the aircon while we were out. But of course, nothing happened. Why? Because our room had a DND sign. Verbal confirmation apparently means nothing here. When we called to follow up, the staff member who answered sounded like we had interrupted his day off. “Room is hot or cold?” he asked flatly then hung up without a word more. Absolutely zero concern or professionalism. Eventually, an engineer came by and told us the temperature would drop. It never did. This is my second disappointing stay with Carlton - the first being at their Tanjong Pagar location. I gave this branch a chance, thinking maybe it’d be better. Clearly, I was wrong. We left the hotel uncomfortable, unimpressed, and completely unenthused. Carlton, if you’re positioning yourselves as a premium stay, you’ve got a long way to go. This isn’t a standard I’d recommend or return to.

Hotel is in very good location in the walking distance to many main places of interests. We booked a room with the view on Marina Bay and it is superb. Room is small with a very simple design - don't expect something special. However bad is comfortable and all necessary of hygienic amenities are available. Reception in site takes quite long time and better to do this in advance using sent link. Shopping mall with variety of food is nearby, so we didn’t take Breakfast which price is incomparable with local cafes.

A very busy and popular hotel with many customers! We arrived early at 11am but were only able to check in at 2pm (the actual check in time is 3pm). We wanted to swim but the pool had lots of users so we decided not to use it. Good - cleanliness, customer service, location - near to MRT, lots of food around, near to attractions (Haji lane, mosque) Bad - Might be noisy during the day (children screaming), very crowded

Room Condition: * The room size was really good and comfortable. * However, the coffee cups in the room were not clean upon check-in. * I had to call room service twice; initially, they insisted the cups were clean without checking, but later replaced them. * Service was a bit slow. Reception & Check-in Experience: * The lady at reception was very helpful in arranging an early check-in (1 hour before the scheduled time). * She informed me that the room was getting ready, so I went out of the lobby to get some drinks. * When I returned, she wasn’t at the desk for 15–20 minutes. * In her absence, I spoke with a male staff member who was somewhat rude and told me to wait until 2:30 PM, despite my earlier arrangement. * When the lady returned, I spoke to her again, and she promptly instructed the man to hand over the room to me. Overall Feedback: * I understand that standard check-in time is 3 PM, and it's fine to be asked to wait. * However, staff should avoid being rude and should verify if a guest mentions a prior arrangement, rather than dismissing it. * These small interactions can leave a slightly negative impression. Overall Stay: * Despite a few hiccups, the overall stay was good and appreciated.

We have reserved deluxe family room to celebrate our 10 years wedding anniversary. The swimming pool are great and we enjoyed them a lot. However, the room cleaniness is far from satisfactory . One day after we returned to hotel room we discovered there were many small ant near water tap which was horrible. We worried they come into our luggage. See photo. Besides, the shuttle bus from Vivo City to hotel always leave earlier than scheduled time which make us feel annoying to miss the bus. We have escalated our comment to duty manager and their response is swift.

I purchased the Lady Gaga Package choosing this hotel for one night, and I ordered another night in this same hotel. 【SERVICE】The staff was very welcoming and he arranged a room for me even they were 2 different orders. It was very helpful and I appreciated it. 【Trick】When the Lady Gaga concert package on sale, the room fee went up to a double compared to normal weekends (800 to 1600) and it was not allowed to canceled, no breakfast included!! However, the room fee went back to normal price and allowed to cancelled, with breakfast later. Here I appreciate that C-trip afford the price difference and refund the extra cost to me!! I am really a big fan to C-trip!I wonder if the hotel management is playing a trick to visitors, so the buyers from KLOOK would have a misunderstanding that KLOOK don't earn too much!! However, KLOOK earn about 40% marget if we calculate the hotel fee in normal price!! So foxy!!! I was happy with my 2-night stay in the hotel, I would like to choose this hotel if I have chance to go to Singapore again. But I personally suggust that NO COOPERATION TO KLOOK any more. They will bring lfy Bugis only bad influence!

This was my first time staying here, and the location is excellent. It's right outside the subway station, and there are plenty of dining options nearby. The room was indeed quite compact. For three of us without luggage, it was manageable, but it would have been a tight squeeze with suitcases. The bathroom was also extremely compact, but it had all the essentials. On this trip to Singapore, I noticed that hotels no longer provide bottled water, having switched to filtered water instead. It's more convenient to bring a reusable bottle when you're out and about.

Booked a Club Room to celebrate a special milestone for my partner and me. Upon arrival, the hotel lobby was bustling with guests checking in and out. Despite the crowd, we were promptly attended to by Suzy, who was very patient in walking us through the various benefits and entitlements that come with a Club Room booking. She was also very helpful and accommodating with the special requests we had made prior to our stay. While Suzy was preparing our check-in, Yuan noticed that we had driven to the hotel and quickly issued us a complimentary parking coupon. Such attention to detail from both Suzy and Yuan truly set the right tone from the beginning—excellent service delivery! The room was clean and of a decent size. A minor drawback was that the TV did not support Chromecast, though it did allow screen sharing and HDMI input. Afternoon tea (2–4 pm) included a simple but satisfying selection: garden salad, assorted Nyonya kuehs, and fresh-cut fruits. The tea and coffee options were also quite good. Evening cocktails (6–8 pm) were a pleasant surprise with an impressive spread: steamed crystal prawn dumplings, fried prawn rolls, chicken tikka with nasi briyani, fried spring rolls, cream of mushroom soup, cold pasta salad with truffle oil, and cheese platters. Some items from afternoon tea were also served. While no cocktails were available during our stay, the beverage selection included beer, red and white wines, and some spirits. Service at the Club Lounge was exceptional—staff were prompt and attentive, creating a relaxing atmosphere with great views. Breakfast was served at J65 restaurant between 6:30 am and 10:30 am. It was quite crowded, but the food selection was decent, and we appreciated the freshly squeezed juices. There’s also a live noodle and egg station located outside the restaurant, where the chefs were both friendly and polite. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and felt that the top-up for the Club Room was well worth it. Kudos to the team for making our experience a memorable one. We’ll definitely be back!

My stay at Pan Pacific Singapore completely exceeded my expectations. From service to dining, everything was of a consistently high standard, and the Executive Lounge experience, in particular, was truly memorable. Let's start with the exceptional service. From the moment I arrived, the bellhop proactively helped with my luggage. During check-in, the front desk staff patiently explained everything and thoughtfully provided recommendations for nearby attractions and routes. Any requests were promptly addressed, and even the housekeeping staff seemed to anticipate our needs with a subtle touch. This kind of discreet yet profoundly attentive service truly touched me. Moving on to breakfast – it was a pure joy for someone who suffers from 'choice paralysis'! The restaurant's selection was extensive and the quality consistently high. At the Chinese station, the shrimp dumplings and siu mai boasted thin skins and generous fillings, and the congee was perfectly smooth and rich. The Western section offered freshly baked croissants (crispy outside, soft inside) and authentically delicious bacon and sausages. There were also made-to-order options where you could customize your dishes with various toppings, and the fruit station was impeccably fresh. However, the Executive Lounge was the true highlight. It offers a spacious and comfortable setting with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea. Afternoon tea here was exquisite and delicious. It's a shame I returned too late one evening and missed the evening bar service. But the 'best in show' award truly goes to the Executive Lounge's breakfast! It was absolutely phenomenal! Not only was it à la carte, but the presentation was incredibly beautiful. And to top it all off, it tasted exceptionally delicious! 😋 Overall, the professional service, the extensive and delicious breakfast, and the high quality of the Executive Lounge all contributed to a truly wonderful trip to Singapore. I will definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit Singapore!
