"For a cheap night it was exactly what I was expecting, clean and tidy room and shared areas. Parking was chargeable which I wasn’t too happy about as it was booked solely based on the parking being free, but the really nice steak in the hotel restaurant made up for it."

Lea Marston Hotel

"A 4-star hotel that's only worth 2 stars or below. I wanted to write this honest feedback not hoping the hotel will improve, as we won't visit again, but as a reference for those looking for a hotel in the Birmingham area. It's quite rare that I give such a low rating in my feedback. We originally booked for 1 night but decided to stay 2 nights to extend our trip in Birmingham. We tried to update our booking on trip.com; however, we could only make another booking (same hotel, same type of room, under the same customer name). We emailed the hotel to reconfirm our booking and ask if we could stay in the same room. After some back-and-forth, they said it wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived for check-in, the staff failed to recognize our upfront request even though I told them we were staying for 2 nights. The staff didn't listen at all nor pay any attention. We noticed the hotel card had our departure date as the next day, so I went to reception to verify that we didn't need to move rooms but could stay in the same room for both nights. Overall, the reception staff was neither energetic nor proactive. They didn't share any information with us (swimming pool, breakfast area, etc.) – we had to ask for these details. It felt like a self-service hotel, though the staff in the breakfast area was welcoming, which is indeed standard. We enjoyed the swimming pool, sauna, and steam room. These facilities and the changing room were fine; however, the staff at the club was not helpful at all. Again, I had to ask for a towel in order to get one. The room was dated as shown in my photos, required renovation. Insulation was poor too we could hear noises along the corridor. We didn’t have a good sleep for the first night however fine for the second night. A positive note: Plenty of parking space."

New Hall Hotel & Spa, Birmingham

New Hall Hotel & Spa, Birmingham

📍 Walmley Rd, Sutton Coldfield
★★★★ 8.9 (108 reviews)

"The service in the hotel is very poor. When I asked to add a quilt, the waiter showed me a dirty quilt. When I asked to change it, he threw the quilt on the ground and changed the quilt on the ground. The service attitude was extremely poor and the service operation was extremely irregular."

Travelodge Birmingham Sutton Coldfield

Travelodge Birmingham Sutton Coldfield

📍 Boldmere Road B4142, Sutton Coldfield
★★★ 7.8 (41 reviews)

"This hotel is in a really great location, several pubs, restaurants & convenience shops within walking distance. Every staff member was extremely friendly and helpful. The room is basic, but everything was clean. The bed was comfy. Only reason why this wasn’t a 5 star stay was the shower wasn’t very strong, and there was a strange sticky patch on the wall which seemed to be collecting hair."

The Dog & Doublet Inn

The Dog & Doublet Inn

📍 Dog Lane, Sutton Coldfield
★★★ 8.2 (37 reviews)

"Wonderful cozy Inn. Nearly 200 years old. Lovely atmosphere, with the staff so friendly and helpful. As a party of 7 we all appreciated the service, the pub and the choices of food and drinks. Besides starters we all had The Sunday roasts. Which also gave a great choice. The dinners were massive. Gravy was separate which suited us all. One negative word ,I think the one entrance off the lane to the car park should be closed off until the massive pot holes are repaired. There is an alternative road running parallel up to the pub."

The Townhouse Sutton

The Townhouse Sutton

📍 High St, The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield
★★★ 7.1 (70 reviews)

"The room was quite cold, and the door lock wasn’t functioning properly. The shower didn’t meet expectations either. However, the location was excellent, and the customer service was decent. Overall, it wasn’t a very pleasant stay. Given that it was winter in December and with the cold outside, you’d expect a warm, inviting room. Unfortunately, it felt quite chilly. Additionally, the towels had a musty smell, which was disappointing."

"Great hotel with clean rooms, friendly staff, and a pleasant atmosphere. However, I was unexpectedly charged £20 for parking despite my booking stating it was free. Reached out for a refund but received no response. A great stay overall."

"All staff were excellent always very helpful, facilities need refreshing hotel needs sprucing up, gym equipment tired and ripped Pool small. Chairs in the bar area either dirty or broken, very busy hotel trying to be too many things to too many people. Tried to book Spa on Saturday or Sunday both full. Breakfast basic to say the least. It was a shame, as once again the staff made our stay."

"We enjoyed our 4 night stay ending tomorrow at the Travelodge Boldmere which was very pleasant. Room was a good size, clean with clean crisp sheets and very comfortable. Value for money This is our second stay here and we would recommend to family and friends. The staff were friendly and I would like to recommend Ifti for going the extra mile to make us feel comfortable. Our only regret was that there was no fridge or microwave in the room."

The Dog & Doublet Inn ★★★
"Likes to hype its canalside location which is indeed very pretty. Website states unequivocally that food is served until 8pm Friday to Sundays. We were on holiday in a canal boat. They do 4mph flat out so once you choose a pub to aim for, after mid afternoon, you are pretty well committed. We arrived at 7.20pm and all the staff were very surprised that we wanted food since apparently the Landlord always stops serving food at 6pm on Sundays. Obviously 'Landlord' was 'upstairs' and unavailable. My plea that we had relied on their website and now had no way to eat since we could not get to the next or last pub in time was met with verbal shrugs. Lots of apologies but nothing which was helpful. The entirety of the response was that the staff would tell the Landlord, the Internet is not something the staff use and the Landlord uses a website company so it's all somebody else's fault. I fully accept the staff aren't to blame. The Landlord is entirely responsible. Maybe they could have offered us some sandwiches or anything they could rustle up with little effort but alas we were repeatedly told 'sorry but it's the Landlord'. I've no idea what the food is like, but the service is appalling. In the end we managed to get a pizza delivered to the pub car park."
