The Howard Plaza Hotel has an excellent location, very close to Daan Forest Park and Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT Station. The surrounding area has a full range of amenities and is very safe. The staff are attentive and friendly. As an older hotel, the facilities are a bit dated, and the room decor has a classic, slightly old-fashioned feel, but all of this is perfectly acceptable. The only downside was that the room number sign on my floor (I think it was the 6th floor, facing Ren'ai Road) seemed to be incorrect, directing me in the wrong direction from the elevator. I walked all the way to the end of the hall and couldn't find my room, so I had to turn back and eventually found it in the opposite direction. It was a bit frustrating. The service needs improvement. We checked in around 7 or 8 PM and had to wait until 3 AM to get a room at the end of a hallway. When we called to ask if we could change rooms, the staff said no because the other rooms weren't cleaned yet. They also said if we wanted to change, we'd have to wait longer, and it would only be a low-floor connecting room. So, we went down to the front desk to discuss it, and suddenly, a high-floor room was available.
My family went down to dinner first and told the restaurant staff that not everyone was there yet. But when I went down, they said they didn't know where my family was sitting and told me to find them myself.

This was a pleasant stay. We were traveling with a child, and I had specifically requested a high floor in my Ctrip booking notes. To my surprise, the hotel really paid attention to it! The hotel has 30 floors in total, and they put us on the 29th floor, which was absolutely perfect with fantastic views.
**Cleanliness:** The room had a separate wet and dry area, and the toilet was smart and very clean.
**Transportation:** The hotel is located right above Wanhua Railway Station. You just turn a corner from the ticketing hall of Wanhua Station and you're there. It's also only a 5-minute walk to Longshan Temple MRT Station.
**Local Food:** Around Longshan Temple MRT Station, there's an Oyster Vermicelli shop (diagonally opposite the 50 Lan milk tea shop) that you absolutely *must* try. The flavor is great and it's generously portioned. I dare say you won't find a better oyster vermicelli in all of Taiwan. Remember, next to the oyster vermicelli shop, there's a place selling grilled sausages – grab one of those too. Vermicelli + grilled sausage = a perfect combination! Room was big enough for 2 person and 2 small luggage, there’s even a sofa for me to lie down.
There was a small onsen like tub which was amazing although it was slightly stained with mold around the grouting (I used hot water to clean it then used the tub). Bed was comfortable!
Gym was alright, there’s a smith machine, weights, treadmills. Not very big and was actually slightly warm as it was summer when I went.
Service was fairly good. I sprained my ankle and they were very happy to provide ice, towel and pillow.
Plus points that we really like was they had free snack bar beside their hotel! Can try many different sweets, biscuits and jelly.
There’s a big carrefour nearby too!

The hotel is located near to the Zhongxiao Dunhua station (exit 3) and walking distance from Ming Yao Department Store, Taipei Dome, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall. There are also many convenience stores within the vicinity and famous donut stores nearby. During our stay, we travelled by foot from the hotel to Pokemon Center Taipei, Taipei 101 and even to Linjiang Night Market.
The room is spacious. There are bathtub and shower in our room, but due to the law in Taiwan, please prepare your own toothbrush and toothpaste. There are also luggage weighing machine and coin-laundry machines in a small room on the floor where they serve breakfast. While not to expect a widespread of choices, I think their breakfast selection is a decent combination of local dishes and western options. Special mention that their pineapples are very sweet!
If you are interested, you may also check out over the counter on the selection of local products that can be ordered and delivered to the hotel. It may save you trouble to locate some of the famous brands in Taipei.

The room is ok but you need to have your bed spray or something because i have bites either from bedbugs or insects coming from your bed and not only on my legs but also both arms.

The initial room was noisy and I could hear construction noise from the site opposite the hotel despite being up on the 18th floor. Soundproofing is rather poor as I can occasionally hear people's conversations as they walk along the corridor.
The lounge was a nice touch though the food offerings especially during the afternoon tea and breakfast service could be better. Service in the club lounge was generally good but could be slower during busy times.

Decent hotel for budget travelers who prefer to be out all day rather than indulge in amenities. The concierge on Basement 1 has a selection of free snacks (crackers, biscuits etc.) and cup noodles you can just swipe for the day's itinerary. Daily breakfast offers congee, rice, and about 3-4 entrees, and a coffee machine (espresso or americano). The deluxe triple room we booked was spacious as was the bathroom. Room details were average and new-ish. The heavy curtains concealed old steel windows. Beddings and towels were changed every other day or so but could be also changed upon request. Staff was helpful and could communicate well in English. We appreciated its nearness to multiple 7-11s, Watsons, and bakeries. 1. Misleading Entrance Signage
Upon arrival, we followed the signage pasted on a pillar that directed guests to a staircase entrance. However, when we reached that entrance, we were shocked to find the door marked with the sign “来宾止步” (“Guests Stop Here”). When we raised this with your staff, we were told that this entrance has not been in use since the COVID-19 period. While we understand that certain operations may have changed during the pandemic, COVID-19 restrictions have ended for more than two years. If the primary entrance has been permanently closed, why has no corrective action been taken and the misleading signage still left there? Carrying heavy luggage up and down a sloped path unnecessarily was frustrating and avoidable.
2. No Staff Assistance or Clear Signage at the New Entrance
When we finally located the new entrance, there were no staff members on standby to assist us, nor was there any clear external signage indicating that this was the correct way to access the lobby. The explanation given later was that all staff were away assisting with parking which is not acceptable. At least one person should have been assigned to remain at the entrance, or the last person leaving should have arranged for another colleague to cover the position. In addition, the Operations Director mentioned that there is signage inside the new entrance directing guests to take the elevator to the lobby. However, this logic is flawed. If guests cannot locate the correct entrance in the first place, how could they possibly see a sign placed inside?
3. Poorly Trained and Unprofessional Front Desk Behavior
After struggling outside, we called the number listed on Google. Only then did someone finally come out and lead us in. By that time, we were exhausted and upset. When we confronted the front desk staff about why they ignored us, despite us clearly visible outside the “来宾止步” glass door, making eye contact and knocking for help, but they claimed they “did not see us.” This excuse was clearly untrue, as we observed them looking in our direction. Even more disappointing, none of the front desk staff offered an apology even until we requested to speak to the Operations Director and asked him to review the CCTV footage. After reviewing the footage, the Operations Director confirmed that the front desk had not been alert and apologized on their behalf. However, he did not acknowledge that the front desk’s attitude and lack of sincerity were also serious problems. Being “not alert enough” and showing no sense of apology or empathy are two entirely different issues.
As an international hotel, the front desk is the first impression of your service. Regardless of the quality of your facilities, this poor experience completely overshadowed the positive aspects of our stay. It also severely damages the reputation of Kagaya Group — a brand that has long been admired for its exemplary Japanese hospitality and politeness. Although we appreciate the Operations Director’s effort to make amends by offering us a meal and gifts (which we declined), it remains undeniable that this incident reflects a failure in staff training and management oversight.
We hope that management will seriously review this incident, especially the issues of:
- Inadequate and misleading signage at the entrance
- Lack of staff presence and assistance upon guest arrival
- Poor front desk awareness and unprofessional behavior
We trust that Kagaya Group will uphold its proud tradition of service by addressing these problems promptly and ensuring no other guests experience such treatment in the future.

I really love ********* culture! 🥰🥰 I'm very satisfied with my stay; they even upgraded our room, which made me really happy! 🥰 The lobby environment is consistently great, and it's very suitable for families with children. The location is super convenient too – there's a FamilyMart and 7-Eleven downstairs, as well as a foot massage place. Just a 3-minute walk from the hotel, you'll find a Sanrio-themed 7-Eleven, and right opposite that is the entrance to Ximen Underground Street. Good location, it's close to the popular ximending and the Taipei station is just a short walk away. Multiples 7-11 and family mart around this hotel.
I booked the room with city view, it's big and the bath tub is especially nice as I looked forward to a hot tub soak after my daytime activities.
The laundry room has 4 washing machines and 4 dryers. The capacity of them is huge, I did my washing with 3 days of clothes for 2 pax and there's still room for more clothes.

Pros:
Excellent location: Direct access from Exit Z8 of Taipei Main Station's underground shopping mall.
All hotel facilities are on the 4th floor, except for the breakfast area: a play area for toddlers, a dedicated play zone for children, and complimentary snacks from 2 PM to 4 PM (redeemable with room key). Bottled water is available for self-service all day.
Reasonable room size: Plenty of space to move around even after unpacking.
Responsive staff: Provided reasonable assistance promptly.
Breakfast on the 37th floor: Tables are well-spaced, offering great views. Some dishes vary daily, including tea eggs and ********* sausages with chicken drumsticks.
Areas for improvement:
Exit Z8 is convenient but has no elevator. You'd need to go out one block earlier for elevator access.
To get from the room to breakfast on the 37th floor, you need to change elevators.

The private hot spring bath was huge and even had a cold spring water pool, which was perfect for a refreshing rinse after a soak. The mini-bar in the room had a great variety of drinks. In the afternoon, they delivered complimentary fruit and snacks, and in the evening, there was even plum wine for a nightcap – absolutely fantastic! Shuttle bus from mrt station was on time, reception service was great. Room was dimly lit for the intended ambience. Use a swimwear that you intend to toss afterwards because of the sulphur smell cus the milktea looking onsen water smell will linger. Outdoor onsen was much better than private room onsen because of the view and rainy-cooling weather. Felt like heaven soaking in their 39-43 degree celcius hot pools & their cool pools. Kinda far from the restaurant/ eateries outside so prepare to take the shuttle bus out or uber, if not you can just pay more for the japanese restaurant. The hotel can be accessed through the basement via exit M6 (staircase but sheltered) and M8 (escalator, but need to cross the road). The downside of the room is the aircon faces and blows directly on the face when laying on the bed. It can be disturbing when sleeping. The location is very convenient, with Xinyi District right downstairs. However; the service at the front desk was disappointing.
Due to a change in our plans, we booked one additional night and asked whether we could simply remain in the same room without checking out. As the new reservation was made by different person, we did not realise that our original to had a Taipei 101 view and was priced higher. The front desk insisted that we had to pay th difference to stay in the same room. While I understand that hotels have policies regarding different room catergories, (at the end we still paid, not we unwilling to pay) the staff’s attitude was very rigid and unfriendly, with little effort made to explain the situation or offer an alternative.
I stayed at this hotel last year and was given a complimentary upgrade to the same room type. This time, we had already booked two rooms for five nights before adding the extra night, so I expected a 5 star hotel to handle the situation with more warmth and flexibility. Very good hotel in a very good location however the room smelt like mould. I was certainly it was coming from the air-conditioning as the second room that we got on our second stay do not smell the same. It was a special occasion however we had not gotten any special amenities despite at least three confirmation emails sent in advance. we had also checked in at 5 pm which as well beyond the check-in time however the room was not ready and check into around 20 minutes. The nail and the coffin was the spa that was undergoing maintenance which made it was not able to be used by its hotel guests . I enjoyed my stay because the room was huge and very well maintianed, nice gym and there is a pool that was long enough to do a swim work out. The BF was worth it at NTD550, and there is a nearby 7-11 in case you need anything ( snacks, drinks, etc. ). There are also nearby restos and bars via a short walk. The nearby Omakase resto was amazing.
Location is a bit off, no malls in the vicinity, but then again, you can easilly take a taxi or uber.FromTWD 3,469

Overall, the stay was satisfying. The room quality, cleanliness, service attitude, and the delicate Japanese hospitality all demonstrated the standard expected of a five-star hotel.
The only minor letdown was the somewhat underwhelming food selection in the executive lounge. During my stay, it was largely the same few dishes, lacking variety. The quality and sophistication didn't quite reflect the value expected of an executive floor, and it felt a bit perfunctory, missing any standout highlights.
As an executive lounge in a five-star hotel, I believe that an improvement in dish rotation, ingredient quality, and plating details would enhance the guest experience and better meet guests' expectations for an executive lounge. This hotel is super close to Songshan Airport, just 4 kilometers away. A taxi ride takes about ten minutes, or you can take the MRT for three stops, which is incredibly convenient. There are some great restaurants right in the same building; I tried two this time, and both were good. ********* food is always delicious, though the prices weren't exactly cheap. The location is great, wished it was slightly closer to the MRT station (around 10 minute walk from Nanjing Sanmin Station). Only 5 minute walk from Raohe Night Market so you don't need to worry about what to eat every night.
The hotel is well kept and very clean, we were assigned to a room in B1, no views but not a big issue. Breakfast is available for additional fee (200 NTD per person). Hotel staffs were very helpful and friendly. No gym at the facility but I think it's fairly common for the hotels in this price range in Taipei.
We were out and about during the day, the hotel provided us a good night sleep every day of our stay. Overall I recommended this facility.FromTWD 1,576

It was pretty close to Da’An metro station, approximately about 5 mins walk.
Room was alittle rustic and there are two lifts. I wouldn’t put too high of an expectations over their onsen or private sauna but is nice to have it especially if it gets too cold . Overall, I will say is definitely convenient to get around from the hotel. Bed was comfortable but there aren’t any Taipei 101 views, as there are tons of new architecture being built. I personally feel that this hotel is in a very 'local' area. How do I put it? It feels like living alongside ********* people, surrounded by their daily lives. The night market is 'right next door,' and the entire street downstairs is filled with everyday shops, markets, and food stalls that cater to locals. It's a bit far from Taipei Main Station (over 1km), but about a 10-minute walk to Shuanglian MRT Station. The hotel staff are all great – from the front desk gentlemen and office ladies to the cleaning staff and canteen employees, everyone is polite and has a good attitude.
