The hotel is very close to the University of Edinburgh, just a 3-minute walk away. It's a 10-minute walk to Waverley Station if you don't have luggage and can use the main stairs, but if you have heavy bags, it's about a 20-minute walk over the bridge. Rooms are not available until after 3 PM. The room size is small, the bathroom is tiny, and the room cleanliness is average, with dirty floors. The front desk staff were friendly and check-in was quick. Breakfast is served on the third floor, a standard English breakfast with decent quality dishes.

The location was absolutely fantastic. You can easily enjoy all of Edinburgh's attractions within walking distance. I heard there's a charge for luggage storage, though. On the bright side, each bed had two USB ports, which was super convenient for charging. My only slight concern was that the bathrooms and toilets were shared by both men and women. I've only ever stayed in hostels with completely separate facilities, so that felt a little odd. However, overall, it was clean and the staff were really friendly, making my trip to Edinburgh wonderful! Thank you!

Without doubt, this was one of our finest hotel stays in recent memory. From the moment we arrived, Novotel Edinburgh set the tone with a level of warmth and professionalism that genuinely stood out. The staff were incredibly helpful throughout and what really demonstrated this was a small but telling moment: we lost our key card during the stay, and it was replaced immediately, without any fuss or inconvenience whatsoever. It's the kind of effortless service that puts you completely at ease, and it's something you remember long after checkout.
The breakfast deserves a special mention — it was simply top notch. The spread was so good that holding back was near impossible, and it's the kind of breakfast that makes you actually look forward to the morning. Freshly prepared, well-stocked, and served with care — it's one of the best hotel breakfasts we've had.
The location is outstanding. Sitting just a mile from Edinburgh Castle, you're right in the heart of one of the most iconic cities in the UK. Public transport couldn't be more convenient either buses are accessible right behind the hotel, making it incredibly easy to get around the city without needing a car at all.
The one area that needs addressing is parking. The hotel's own car park is frequently full, which meant we had to use the nearby NCP instead. To the hotel's credit, they did provide a discount for the NCP - a thoughtful gesture that softened the inconvenience. However, it's worth noting for electric vehicle drivers: the EV charging at the NCP is painfully slow, so factor that into your plans if you're arriving in an electric car. A heads-up from the hotel at check-in would go a long way.
Parking frustrations aside, Novotel Edinburgh is a brilliant base for exploring the city - exceptional staff, an unmissable breakfast, and a location that's hard to beat. We'd return without hesitation.

The hotel's location is absolutely unbeatable, just a 2-minute walk from the train station. However, you have to climb about four flights of stairs to reach the lobby, which was a bit tough with luggage. The service was excellent. According to the front desk, there's an elevator that goes directly to the train station entrance, but my English wasn't good enough to find it. I tried again the day before check-out, and a very helpful staff member personally guided us there. I left a note in the room requesting a sheet change and more bottled water, and they wouldn't even accept the tip I left – classic old-school hospitality! These two points definitely deserve a huge thumbs up. I gave the facilities 3 stars because the bed was a bit saggy, and my back was sore after sleeping on it for four nights, but everything else was great.

Great location, right by the castle and attractions. It's also very close to museums and popular photo spots. There's a highly-rated breakfast place downstairs, and Victoria Street has many pubs frequented by locals. Overall, a fantastic experience.

The location is fantastic, right on the Royal Mile in the heart of the Old Town. The facilities are a bit old-fashioned, but the staff are very friendly. Be aware that the reception can be a bit tricky to find, as it's directly across the street from the actual rooms. Considering it's a hostel, it offers pretty good value for money.

This is a photo I took at my accommodation in Edinburgh. It was only about a one-minute walk from the station, and most of the main tourist attractions were nearby, which made getting around very convenient.
The only surprise was that I didn’t realise it was a triple bunk bed when I booked it. I booked it without thinking much about the bed setup, so I was a bit caught off guard. As a result, I hit my head a few times!
Other than that, everything was fine. Interestingly, the top bunk (third level) actually looked like the best spot.

I had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The room was spotlessly clean, modern, and well-equipped with everything I needed for a comfortable night.
I would especially like to commend Callun for his professional and helpful assistance after my check-out. While I was waiting to collect my luggage, he efficiently resolved a minor issue by providing a charging lead for my phone. He also kindly offered me a seating area and a glass of water while I waited.
This level of attentive service is much appreciated. I will certainly choose this hotel again for my future visits to Edinburgh.

The location of the hotel is invincible (the house in the lower right corner of the second picture). Turn right after exiting the Market Street exit of the train station and walk for one minute. You don’t have to worry about carrying large luggage. When you cross the road, you will see Prince Street Park and Waverley Bridge (where the photo was taken). After crossing the bridge, you will see Prince Street. Turn right and walk for 15 minutes to Calton Hill. Turn right and walk for 3 minutes to the Royal Mile. There are many restaurants along the way. It is very close to the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle, and the Art Museum. The staff’s service is very good. When they meet people from non-English speaking countries, they will communicate with guests at a very slow speed. It is also very convenient to store luggage. There is also an airport bus at the door of the hotel.

Great
LleonconnieThe room was incredibly spacious, with a separate living room. I'd definitely want to stay here long-term if I visit Scotland again. The room was very quiet, and the living room sofa converts into a bed. All the appliances were high-end brands like Dyson and Smeg. The only downside was the lack of on-site parking. There's an NCP car park under the bridge a bit further down, costing around £25 per night. The hotel is very close to the castle, about a 5-minute walk, and about 10 minutes from the city center. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, which is very convenient.

GGuest UserThe hotel is perfectly situated right on the Royal Mile – the location is absolutely superb! It's just an 8-minute walk from the train station. Be aware that there are some steps along the route, which might be a bit of a workout if you're carrying heavy suitcases.
It's a very family-friendly hotel. The bedroom has a large bed, and the living room sofa converts into a double bed, comfortably accommodating two adults and two children. Our room was incredibly clean, newly renovated, and surprisingly quiet. Even though the Royal Mile is bustling with street performers and activities, we couldn't hear any noise from our room at all.
Having amenities like a washing machine and oven in the room was a huge plus. Just a note: toothpaste, toothbrushes, and slippers aren't provided as standard. We brought our own dental kit, so we only needed to ask the front desk for slippers.
Breakfast is served à la carte; you order what you like, and top-ups are available if you're still hungry. Edinburgh Castle is a mere 5-minute walk to the right from the hotel's entrance, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby – incredibly convenient!

GGuest UserLovely hotel in Hollyrood, Edinburgh. Not too far from the centre or masses of places to eat.
Staff were fantastic, especially during a really busy period with high expectations from tourists to the area as well.
I was travelling alone, but made to feel very welcome especially in the restaurant and bar. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Just what you need to help with your stay.
Leisure facilities were good, however, the pool area could do with a wee face lift and the addition of a steam room or jacuzzi would be beneficial for the size of/ use of the hotel. I had a hot stone massage and it was lovely and relaxing.
Shout out to Katie at the spa, Jack and John in the restaurant and the lovely gentleman who che led me in at reception.
Definitely a second stay coming up for me.

AAnonymous UserThe location is excellent, very close to all attractions. The service was good; every staff member I encountered was smiling and very welcoming. The biggest problem was the strange, disgusting smell throughout the hallway and especially in the room. Despite ventilating the room every night during my stay, it still smelled fishy.

CCleo.C.Ideal location within budget
I used to study in Edinburgh uni and my student hall is right opposite - that’s why we chose here
The value is pretty good but I won’t give it 10/10 Here are the reasons
1. The towels have fluff coming out all the time
2. Bathroom hand wash sink doesn’t go down properly
3. Shower pressure fairly low
4!! The WiFi!! There’s barely any connection within our room. The 5G got down to 4G on 1-2 bar so even we use our own data is very slow…
The wifi gets way better in the Lobby and in public corridors but who wants to chill in the lobby after a whole day of walking…
My husband got severe dry eye symptoms at the end of the trip (it may not have something to do with the hotel but he wakes up every single night)
The hotel has very good amenities that benefits every member who stays. but within the room i can always figure out something that doesn’t match up the 4star hotel standard things.

GGuest UserPerfect location! We were very pleased with the room, it was a nice touch that the bed was an actual bed rather than a sofa bed🙈 Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to be near the old and new town of Edinburgh 😊

GGuest UserI’ve spent there 3 nights, and I loved every moment there! The staff is friendly and ready to help 24/7. The rooms are clean. It is noisy till around 1 am at nights because of the bar. However, I was so tired at the end of the day that I just would fall asleep despite the room being right behind the bar. The best experience for me was new people who I met there. Dear Nancy Lao Shi, have a great stay in there, waiting for you to come to Uzbekistan! And dear Scottish family who we met the day before yesterday who bought us Irish brew and mars bars - if you come to Uzbekistan let me know!
All the things are great, dear staff thank you very much for your genuine hospitality and impeccable service!!!

GGuest UserThe room was quite small, making it a bit tricky to fully open our luggage. However, everything else was great. We appreciated being able to open the windows for ventilation. The location is superb, with excellent transport links and plenty of convenient dining and shopping options nearby. It's also very close to the Royal Mile and the castle. The breakfast was a standard English fare, but it was certainly substantial and kept us full.

GGuest UserMy second stay here
Great location at a good price, in Edinburgh you will be outside most of the day in this great city so you just need a comfortable sleep at a good location which this hotel provides as it's at the tip of the royal mile and only few mins walk to Waverley bridge where you can get the airport express bus and also the train station, rooms have good Balmoral view
Just avoid the corner rooms cuz they have sluggish internet connection
