I highly recommend starting your day as early as possible to beat the crowds and make the climb more enjoyable.If you’re visiting in summer, take the cable car up. The weather can be extremely hot and humid, and climbing all those steep stairs is a serious workout—even early in the morning!

A great place, though the two-hour wait in line for security spoiled the experience a bit. Surprisingly, the square wasn't crowded. It's a landmark in China, like Red Square in Russia.

If you come to Beijing and don't visit Tiananmen Square, you're missing out big time! It's like the heart of Beijing, bringing together major landmarks from all four directions. It's a vast, expansive square. Getting into the square is incredibly difficult, requiring passing through many security checkpoints. But once you're inside, you'll realize just how massive it is—everything seems twice the scale! And you absolutely can't miss the entrance gate to the Forbidden City, adorned with statues of important Chinese leaders. You have to stop and take a picture there! 😘

Tiananmen Square is quite magnificent overall, but it's not a must-see. You can visit it before going to the Forbidden City. Chairman Mao can't be seen there, so you don't need to go specifically; just look at the exterior of the buildings.
(Although I didn't go to the Forbidden City, if you want to go, remember to refresh the official website seven days in advance to get tickets. Don't be like me and only try to go when you arrive; you can't get tickets at all.)

Buying a freshly fried rice cake, dipping it in brown sugar, and enjoying its warm, sweet, and soft texture, while squeezing into the crowd to listen to a few lines of opera—even if you don't understand the tune—feels lively and welcoming, full of the warmth and life of everyday life, and your heart feels a sense of joy and celebration.

Taking the cable car at night to see the city lights gradually illuminates the city, from the nearby streetlights to the distant skyscrapers, spreading out like scattered diamonds, even the streets appear as glowing ribbons. A breeze blows from the cable car, and the entire city stretches out below, both quiet and vibrant. A sense of openness washes over me; from this vantage point, everyday worries seem so small, and nothing seems insurmountable.

Yesterday we visited the Summer Palace. The palace grounds are so huge, I don't know how people manage to see it all in one day. If you were to look at every single place there and then stroll around the other side, it would be impossible. The place itself is beautiful and picturesque. However, I didn't like that even though you buy a cheap ticket, you have to pay extra for the shopping street and the Buddhist temple. I think the boat ride is overpriced for such a small semicircle. And of course, there are so many people, it's impossible to enjoy the place.

We visited in August, and the younger children found it a bit challenging. But that didn't spoil the experience. The spirit of that era is in the air. Quiet paths amidst greenery, a beautiful view of Kunming Lake. A boat ride on the lake added a special charm to the trip. The area is large, so plan on at least 4-5 hours. Overall, it's a harmony of nature and architecture, a place where you want to slow down and savor the moment!

The palace is very big. Good experience. There are many tourists.

Very busy in August. Still worth a visit, the lake is beautiful with the boats on it, the lotus flowers are blooming, it didn’t feel that crowded to walk the Long Corridor even with that many people. My favourite was the Marble Boat and that area was the less crowded. Food and drinks are very expensive.
