Sydney Rapid Transit Map - Redesigned

As Australia's first fully automated driverless container rail system, the Sydney Metro is a rapid transit network serving the Greater Sydney metropolitan area. Its first line, the Metro North West Line, opened in 2019. Today, the system operates 2 lines (North West & City) following the landmark opening of the city section under Sydney Harbour in 2024. With over 100 kilometers of new rail across projects like Metro West and Metro Western Sydney Airport currently under construction, the system now features 44 stations in operation, significantly transforming urban connectivity across the city.

How to Take Sydney Metro

How to Take Sydeny Metro

New chief for Sydney Metro operator

Riding the Sydney Metro is incredibly convenient. The system is primarily accessed using an Opal Card or Contactless Payment (Credit/Debit cards). You must "tap on" at the start of your journey and "tap off" at the end. The Metro integrates seamlessly with Sydney’s existing trains, buses, light rails, and ferries, providing a fast and efficient way to reach key areas of the city—making it the perfect choice for exploring Sydney.

Sydney Metro | Step-by-Step Guide

1. Choose Your Payment Method:

  • Opal Card: Purchase and top up a physical card. These are available at newsagents, convenience stores, supermarkets, Sydney Airport, or top-up machines at train stations.
  • Contactless Payment: Use a chip-enabled credit/debit card or a mobile device (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) directly at the gate.

2. Tap On: Locate the ticket gates at the station entrance. Place your Opal card or contactless device on the reader until it "beeps" and the gate opens.

3. Board the Train: Head to the platform for your destination. The Sydney Metro is fully automated and driverless, offering faster and more frequent service than the traditional rail network.

4. Tap Off: When you reach your destination, tap your card or device again at the exit gate. The system will automatically calculate and deduct the correct fare based on your distance traveled.

Sydney Metro | Travel Rewards & Discounts

  • Weekend & Holiday Caps: Enjoy a lower daily fare cap on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (meaning you won't be charged more than a set maximum amount for the whole day).
  • Off-Peak Discount: Receive a 30% discount on your fare when traveling during off-peak hours.
  • Transfer Discount: If you switch between different modes of transport (e.g., from a train to a bus) within 60 minutes, you will receive a $2 discount on your transfer.

I highly recommend taking a guided tour of the opera house. The guides are very professional, explaining everything from the initial architectural concept to the completion process. You'll deeply appreciate the meticulous attention to detail in the building's design, material selection, interior construction, decoration, and fabrics. I highly recommend coming in the morning.

I was so happy to finally find a Chinese-language guided tour that fit my schedule! The one-hour tour covered both the South and North Halls, and even included a seat inside the concert hall. The ticket exchange process was simple: just go to the ticket counter on the basement floor of the Sydney Opera House, give them your code, and you're good to go. If you have a backpack, go forward to store it—it's free. Then you can go up to the first floor to meet up and wait. The guide even gave us time to take photos during the tour, which was great!

This wasn't the ordinary zoo I knew. It's truly a wonderful place, harmonizing with the natural environment of a port city. I went on my last day, and I almost regretted not going. Even if you're not a fan of animals, it's well worth the price for those who enjoy botanical gardens and harbor views. The photos turned out great. The only regrets were that the restaurant menu wasn't very diverse, and even if you wanted to see the entire zoo, the route seemed a bit inefficient. You had to go back to the same places you'd already been, and there were uphill sections, so it could be a bit tiring to have to go with a guide. Be sure to reserve your ticket here in advance to receive a discount. On-site payment is more expensive.

I have a special relationship with zoos; I just wanted to see a platypus. Overall, the zoo is nice, big, with lots of greenery and space for the animals. But the tigers, giraffes, zebras, and lions are poorly housed; there's not enough space for them. The koalas are also poorly housed; they have a cut-down tree to keep them from climbing too high and use it to eat leaves. We've seen koalas and kangaroos in the wild before, and they're easy to find around the Gold Coast and Melbourne.

The hotel is old and the equipment is average. The location is very good, just by the pier. It is very convenient to eat nearby. The restaurant on the first floor of the hotel is also OK. We didn't go out to eat one day in heavy rain. We tried it and felt it was not bad. Parking is charged. There is also a Japanese restaurant nearby. It is good to try.

We booked for 2 nights using an app. When booking two nights straight, it will be more expensive than booking two nights seperately. The first night, the app suggested a disability room. I told the lady at the front desk if that room is needed for someone in need I don't mind changing. The room has a little more space than the 2nd room we had, but overall I would say much cleaner...with a funny smell. The second room, as soon as you get in, it smelled humid and mold; there were mold on the ceiling of the bathroom and all around the tub. Two of the towels were undone as if they were already used, and only has 1 set of towel for a 2 person staying. There were squashed bugs on the wall. On the bed, it seemed like someone stepped on it with their shoes on. (See pictures) All the staffs are very nice. I asked for extra towels and pillow cases and the lady at the front desk brought them to our room.

Location: In fact, in a palm-sized place like Sydney, location is not very important. Is the museum next to Mick Mac Aboriginal a plus? Cleanliness: 100 points Service: 99 points, generally good, but one point is deducted when breakfast only has eggs as a source of protein. I asked the service staff, there is no meat, ham, meat, none at all. Facilities: It looks clean, but the swimming pool is too crowded and the gym is a bit small. Probably the best hotel in Sydney. On the bed, it seemed like someone stepped on it with their shoes on. (See pictures) All the staffs are very nice. I asked for extra towels and pillow cases and the lady at the front desk brought them to our room.

Facilities: Very good Hygienic: clean and tidy Environment: Too satisfied 👍, the bed is very comfortable, watching the sea, so beautiful! Service: Very good, the handsome guy at the front desk forgot to ask the name, very thoughtful and careful! I originally booked for two nights, and stayed for 3 nights decisively. The hotel is very close to the violin 🎻 square, more than 10 minutes along the seaside boardwalk.

Overall it exceeded my expectations.

The room is on the first floor, it feels a bit depressing, but the service of the hotel is very good. It's okay for girls to be accompanied by male friends, but if there are two girls, you should be more cautious, it doesn't feel very practical

FAQs about Sydney Metro Map

  • Where does the Sydney Metro start and finish?

The Sydney Metro is an automated rapid transit system in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It currently consists of one route, the Metro North West & Bankstown Line, running between Tallawong and Sydenham and consisting of 21 stations on 52 km (32 mi) of twin tracks, mostly underground.
  • How do you pay for the metro in Sydney?

There are a range of options to pay for your travel on public transport, including credit/debit cards, digital wallets, and Opal cards. Simply tap on at the start and tap off at the end of your trip.
  • Is Sydney Metro the same as Sydney trains?

Metro is driverless and not time-tabled - there should be a train every 4 minutes during peak times, 5 minutes between peak periods on week days and 10 minutes at other times. Trains are time tabled - I think the peak frequency is 6 services per hour in peak.
