  • Line 6 (Light Purple): Covers the northeast, including attractions in Jiangbei District.

How to Buy Tickets, Chongqing Metro Card & Payment Methods

How to pay for the Chongqing Metro

Navigating the Chongqing Metro is a breeze once you’ve mastered the payment system. We’ve put together a simple guide to ensure your journey is as smooth as can be—perfect for travelers who appreciate efficiency, just like back home in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.

Types of Tickets Available

  • Single-Trip Token: Perfect for one-way trips! You can easily pick these up from any ticket machine at our metro stations.
  • Tourist Cards: While the Chongqing Metro doesn't offer a dedicated tourist pass, single-trip tokens and rechargeable cards are more than enough to get you around during a short stay!
  • Contactless Bank Cards: The system mainly uses tokens and transit cards, so it’s best to rely on these options rather than expecting foreign credit cards to work.

Transit Card

  • Yikatong Card: This is your essential rechargeable transit card for the Chongqing Metro! It’s super convenient and reusable, working for both metro and bus rides so you can breeze past the queues at ticket machines.
  • Where to Buy: Available at major metro stations and selected convenience stores like 7-Eleven.

Fares & Top-Up

  • Fare Range: Getting around is a breeze! Fares are distance-based, starting at just CNY 2 (AUD 0.4) for quick hops and capping at around CNY 10 (AUD 2) for those longer cross-city adventures.
  • Top-Up Options: You can easily top up your Yikatong Card at any metro station, with a minimum reload of just CNY 20 (AUD 4).

Digital Payment

  • Mobile Apps: While Alipay and WeChat Pay are the go-to payment methods in China, they often require a local bank account to get started. For most Malaysian travelers, the Yikatong Card is your best bet for a hassle-free trip—unless, of course, you’ve already got those apps up and running!

Best Option for Travelers

For short-term visits, grabbing a Yikatong Card is the most practical and efficient way to explore. Simply load about CNY 100 (AUD 20) to breeze through multiple trips without any hassle. While there isn’t a multi-day tourist pass, the card’s convenience more than makes up for it!

Things to Note

  • Peak-Hour Queues: Expect a bit of a wait during rush hours at our busier stations—it's all part of the adventure!
  • Foreign Cards: Ticket machines generally don’t accept foreign credit or debit cards—cash is safer for top-ups.
  • Refund Policy: You can return your Yikatong card for a refund, but be sure to check the policy at the station where you purchase it to avoid any surprises!

Tips, Etiquette & Local Insights – Chongqing Metro

Tips, Etiquette & Local Insights – Chongqing Metro

Platform & Boarding Etiquette

Navigating the Chongqing Metro is a breeze when you embrace the local queue culture! Always wait behind the yellow safety line and let fellow travelers hop off before you step on—it keeps the flow smooth and shows great respect for local etiquette. Planning to make a quick exit? Just head toward the doors, but be sure to keep the path clear. And remember, priority seats are highly valued here, so don't hesitate to offer yours to those who need it most!

Etiquette Inside the Train

Keep your phone on silent and pop in your earphones if you’re catching up on music or videos. Let’s keep the vibe chill by chatting softly with your travel buddies. Remember, no food or drinks are allowed on the metro, so be sure to finish your snacks before you hop on board! If you’re traveling with luggage or bulky bags, keep them tucked close to you and out of the aisles—especially when the train gets busy during rush hour.

Local Tips & Tricks

For a more comfortable journey, travel outside of peak hours—late morning or early afternoon is ideal. If you want to enjoy scenic views, take Line 2 and grab a window seat for stunning river landscapes. At interchange stations like Hongqihegou, crowds are usually lighter compared to others. Local tip: at Jiaochangkou Station, sitting in the last carriage gives you quicker access to the escalators.

Common Mistakes Travelers Make

A common mistake travelers make is forgetting to tap out with their metro card, which can lead to some pesky extra charges. Please avoid holding the train doors open, as it’s discouraged and can delay departures for everyone. Also, keep in mind that cash isn't accepted—you’ll need to have your metro card or a valid app ready for a seamless journey!

Local Habits

Chongqing locals often use apps like Baidu Maps for real-time navigation and route planning. Many also prefer to top up their metro cards during off-peak hours to avoid long queues. Understanding these small habits—like keeping personal space and being patient during busy times—will make your metro experience much smoother.

Booked this room for a friend, and they were really happy with it. The location is fantastic, super convenient for getting around. The front desk staff, especially the ladies, were lovely and gentle. The room's decor was very comfortable and soothing, really helped calm my restless mind. I forgot to take pictures of the room, so I just snapped a quick pic of the lobby to share. Definitely recommend!

Good value stay. Room is super comfortable and quiet. Executive lounge is relatively small but has a good variety of food and drinks. Breakfast is huge but area can get packed on holidays so you don’t want to seat too near the food. Location is not exactly center of the city, but close enough on a quieter, niecer neighborhood. Would stay again.

My stay at Ascott Raffles City Chongqing was fantastic. The hotel's location is superb, right in the heart of Raffles City commercial center, with endless shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Getting around was incredibly convenient. The room itself was exceptionally spacious and bright, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Chongqing from every window. It was fully equipped with amenities like a kitchen and laundry facilities, making for a very comfortable stay – perfect for families or business travelers. A special shout-out to the hotel staff for their warm and attentive service; they were always quick to assist with everything from check-in to daily needs, which was incredibly comforting. Both the facilities and service quality were truly impressive. I'll definitely choose to stay here again on my next trip to Chongqing.

I've been to Chongqing many times, but this was my first stay at a Kempinski. I'd seen on Trip.com that the hotel opened in 2012, so I assumed the facilities and decor might be a bit outdated. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that despite being open for 14 years, this Kempinski is still exceptionally well-maintained. The original construction materials and furnishings were clearly high-quality, luxury items, so overall, aside from the slightly older design and decor style, everything else was unexpectedly good. This includes the dining options – whether it was Elements Western Restaurant, the Beer Bar, or the Executive Lounge, the food quality was impressive. The desserts and bread, in particular, truly showcased the essence of German culinary excellence. Of course, as a boutique hotel under the GHA DISCOVERY alliance, what truly impressed me most was the service. From the welcoming attitude of the staff to the efficiency of the management team in resolving issues, it truly lives up to Kempinski's reputation as a European hotel aristocrat. Special thanks to the hotel management and operations teams for their meticulous care and excellent service during my stay. Employees like Wilson, the Director of Rooms, Paul, the Guest Services Manager, and Lucy, the Executive Lounge intern, all deserve special recognition!

The location is absolutely fantastic! You step out right onto Jiefangbei, making it super convenient for food and shopping. The room was spacious, clean, and tidy, offering great value for money. My friends and I booked a four-person suite, and it was quite large, perfect for families or groups of friends traveling together. The service was also excellent, very responsive and enthusiastic to our needs. The only minor drawback is the lack of a dedicated lobby; several hotels share one on the ground floor. However, for tourists, there's hardly any need to relax in the lobby, so it didn't really affect our stay.

The hotel is a bit hard to find, located at the very end of a road behind a car park. Reception is on the 5th floor. However, once you manage to find it, the rooms are very nice and the river views are fantastic. It's about 10 minute walk to the metro station. When I arrived they told me that the swimming pool was out of service. It had been out of service since the end of May 2026. The hotel just told me they have now fixed it (late June 2026) but unfortunately I have already checked out. However, they provided a free room upgrade in return for not being able to use the pool. There is only one thing I didn't quite appreciate. After I left, the hotel messaged me asking to provide a screenshot of a 5-star revie, stating that some new employees have performance requirements. I find this pressure tactic to be dishonest, and it may have affected other reviews you read, so be aware of it. I mentioned to the hotel that this was not acceptance and they immediately apologised though. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here

I spent a lot of time choosing a hotel for my trip to Chongqing. Some hotels had high ratings but were actually quite bad. In the end, I chose the Metropolitan Hotel, and it truly didn't disappoint. The location is excellent. Turn right out of the hotel and walk a few steps, and you're at Jiefangbei. Daijia Alley and Hongyadong are also within walking distance. About 200 meters away is Bayi Food Street, which has an abundance of snacks, restaurants, and local specialties, making it incredibly convenient. At the same time, it's not actually *on* Food Street, so you avoid the noise. Many hotels in Chongqing share a main entrance, with different hotels occupying different floors accessible by the same elevator, which can be chaotic. Waiting in line for the elevator wastes a lot of time. The Metropolitan Hotel, however, stands independently and quietly, which is rare and fantastic for a hotel in a tourist area! The hotel's service was also very thoughtful, leaving me with a wonderful impression of Chongqing's local culture as soon as I arrived. Although the hotel faces the street, the room was very quiet. Breakfast was also plentiful. However, I have one small suggestion: the hairdryer is a bit old-fashioned; it would be even better if it could be replaced with a newer model. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit. Highly recommended!

The facilities are a bit old, but generally well-maintained. I stayed on the 26th floor and the room had a damp smell, which wasn't great. The windows felt like they weren't there at all; they provided no soundproofing. The showerhead was leaking and needs to be replaced. The elevators in the public areas felt like they had no AC, were very hot at noon, and were slow. Hygienics: Meets Hyatt standards. Environment: Meets Hyatt standards. Service: So-so. After 10 PM, there was no answer when calling room service. Location: Good, quiet yet central. There are many shopping areas nearby, making it very convenient for dining and shopping. Other: The executive lounge's food was average with no live cooking stations. The pool has a hot tub and dry sauna, but the water quality was mediocre. Overall, everything is quite old.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property.  Everyone was so nice and kind.  The service was top- notch.  The amenities were plenty and easy accessible.   A few extras that made everything worth it were the full- sized refrigerator, with freezer, the washing machine (for which they provided soap as well), dish washer, stove top, towel drier ( in the washroom) and full sized closet.  The view was so beautiful and calming as well.   Everything about this room was just so nice and exactly what I needed.     I didn’t realize how perfect the location was in relation to almost everything that I wanted to see.   When I figured that out, I just got up every day and walked to everything that I needed or wanted to see.   It was extremely close to a lot of restaurants, malls, local shops and smaller attractions.  I was less than a 10 -15 minute walk to Raffles City Shopping Center where there is a 5 story mall, Movie theatre, roof top attraction with the swing,  SKY WALK and also the river front park with amazing views.  Same distance for Hongyadong, the viewing platform, the Qiansemen Bridge- if you wanted to walk across the bridge at night- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!  There is so much to see and experience between the hotel and these attractions.  Your days will be filled with fun and adventure.    If ever I have the opportunity to come back to the city, I will very excited to repeat this experience.

The hotel location is very strategically located. Walking distance to many attractions including Hongyadong. The staff is very helpful specially the front desk lady with number 3 badge. She helped us call and rebook our flight at past 02:00 in the morning. Rooms are clean and always generous with water and sometimes even gives us soda for free. There’s also a laundry room which is very convenient. Overall we had a great stay in the hotel. Salute to front desk staff no. 3 for the big help.

My stay at Orange Crystal Hotel was truly an experience that exceeded my expectations! The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic; the subway station is right outside, and taking a taxi to the main shopping districts is just a starting fare. There are plenty of dining options and attractions nearby, making getting around incredibly convenient. As soon as you enter the lobby, you're greeted by a refreshing fragrance. The front desk staff were efficient and welcoming during check-in, and they thoughtfully provided welcome fruits and complimentary floral tea and coffee. The room was spacious and bright, spotlessly clean, and the electronic curtains and smart devices were very easy to use. What impressed me most were the bedding and soundproofing. The mattress was soft and comfortable, and with the windows closed, it was incredibly quiet, allowing even someone like me who's particular about beds to sleep soundly through the night. The breakfast offered a wide variety of choices, combining Western and Chinese dishes, along with local specialties – definitely highly recommended!

Traveling to Chongqing with my child, I compared several hotels before buying a group deal for this one online. It's truly well-suited for families. The twin room offers plenty of space for kids to run around comfortably. The entire room is very clean, and the bedding is soft and skin-friendly. Its central location in Jiefangbei means we can walk to Hongyadong and Raffles City, saving us from long treks with the little one. There are numerous convenience stores and snack shops nearby, making it easy to find kid-friendly breakfast options that are more varied than the hotel's breakfast. The staff are gentle and patient, and they offer free stroller storage. Check-in and check-out were quick and efficient. The group purchase price was very reasonable, and the weekend surcharge was clearly and transparently marked with no hidden tricks. They also support free refunds for itinerary changes, making it a great value for a short trip with kids.
