  • Opening Hours: Open all day. Recommended to visit during the evening lighting hours.
  • Lighting Hours: Approximately 20:00 - 22:30 (subject to change; it's best to arrive around 21:00).
  • Best Photo Spots: The road opposite the first floor; on Qiansimen Bridge.

Want to see Chongqing's most stunning night view? Then you definitely shouldn’t miss Hongya Cave. It has become an immensely popular网红 (wǎng hóng - internet famous) spot in recent years, even surpassing the popularity of West Lake in Hangzhou and the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an. Many say its appearance is strikingly similar to the bathhouse from the Japanese animated film "Spirited Away" (千与千寻).

Hongya Cave is a stilted building complex constructed along a cliff. By night, it’s bustling with crowds. The structure has 11 floors, filled with numerous food stalls and snack shops. Due to its unique mountainous terrain, exiting from either the 1st or the 11th floor leads directly to a street—a fascinating feature that exemplifies why Chongqing is often called a "magical 3D city."

What a great place, it looks magical at night. First, we watched the lights come on from the bridge, then we walked through the complex itself, a labyrinth of coffee shops and souvenir stalls, and we also managed to admire the beauty from below.😍

We always tend to double-check every detail before setting off, worrying about missing something or being unprepared. But we later realize that time shouldn't be wasted on endless preparations, but rather poured into the journey with you. Those meticulously planned itineraries pale in comparison to the light in your eyes when you lead me through unfamiliar alleyways. The essence of travel isn't where we go, but every step we take together. Only when we're no longer bound by plans can we truly savor the freedom in the wind and the warmth of the hand in the other person's.

As a native of Jiangnan, accustomed to the gentle charm of ancient Jiangnan towns, Hongyadong's 8D magical experience completely overturned my perception. Standing at the entrance on the 11th floor, I realized that the city street was right below me. Descending along the cliffside walkway, the ancient stilted buildings unfolded along the Jialing River. After nightfall, warm lights spilled over the eaves, their reflections shimmering like shattered gold in the river. The vibrant energy of Chongqing and the ingenious design of its landscape were all blended into these layers of staggered buildings, making it an unforgettable experience.

The cable car is very scenic, but frankly, there's not much point to it. It's only worth considering as an attraction, as metro Line 6 runs nearby, crossing the same tracks as the cable car, and offering the same views as a metro train. But overall, it's worth a one-time, one-way ride.

The cabin ride is very impressive. Upon booking, you're assigned a number that controls access. We waited about 40 minutes from ticket issue to entry. There's still a line to get inside, but there are seats and fans and other cooling options. Consider your time carefully during peak hours.

  • The predecessor of Eling Er'chang Cultural and Creative Park was the "Chongqing Printing Factory No. 2," which was once regarded as a highlight of the printing industry in Southwest China.
  • The renovated old factory buildings retain the original appearance of the former industrial site while incorporating modern aesthetics. With vintage-inspired cultural and creative shops and unique restaurants, it’s a great place to explore!
  • Former Site of the Central Bank of the Republic of China Currency Printing Factory (1940)

It's a nice park, large and clean, with observation decks offering panoramic views of the city. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet after the endless hustle and bustle of the city, stroll along the narrow paths, and sit on a bench and simply appreciate the beauty.

Public park, inside there is a lot of happy vibe from people who come to dance choreographies and play instruments. There is street food and other things for sale. Ponds and beautiful gardens. There was a chrysanthemum exhibition when I went. If you are walking to Liziba station I suggest going to the park first because it is quite high up, going down is like a 30 hour walk.

Elling Park in Chongqing is a really big, beautiful park 🌳, perched up in one of the higher parts of the city. The observation deck is definitely worth checking out—you can climb up and take in some absolutely breathtaking views of the skyline 🏙️. A lot of elderly people 👵👴 love to hang out here, chatting and relaxing, making the atmosphere super chill. It’s a lovely place for a peaceful walk 🚶‍♂️, and even the restrooms are fancy! They have this cool, old Chinese house vibe 🏯, which adds to the charm. Definitely a spot to unwind and soak in some local culture!

The first time I visited Eling Park, I didn't have high hopes. After entering, I learned that many embassies of Chongqing were located here in the past. It is free to visit and you can look down at the Jialing River from a high vantage point.

Chongqing Attraction | Ciqikou
  • Opening Hours: All day
  • Chongqing One-Day Tour Itinerary: Chongqing City One-Day Tour (Yangtze River Cableway & Shancheng Step Trail & Liziba & Ciqikou & Two Rivers Cruise)

There are many places here to experience Chongqing’s local specialty snacks, such as Chen Mahua (numbly spicy twists), Chongqing Xiaomian (spicy noodles), and Lao Suannai (traditional yogurt).

Wandering through small shops or cafés gives off a fresh, artsy vibe. When visiting Chongqing, you can make Ciqikou the first stop of your itinerary. In the morning, Ciqikou is least crowded, allowing you to experience the authentic old Chongqing atmosphere. However, by noon, it turns into a bustling tourist area.

review picture

Cool place, 1 km walk from beginning to end (2 km round trip). Lots of other places to walk besides the main "old street". Lots of samples, you might get full lol. There is no Mahua museum (contrary to some internet articles). The Mahua museum is just a store called "Mahua museum" so don't get too excited. There is a Mahjong museum that was really cool for you Mahjong aficionados with old tables, old sets, and cool stuff. In terms of walkability most of it is flat but expect to go up and down about 30 steps each way. So doable if you are older or not super fit but not for wheelchairs

Twin Classic City View
The hotel's location is fantastic, right downstairs from Chaotianmen Square and Raffles City. The front desk staff were very patient and thorough. Our room on the 60th floor offered beautiful river and city views. After 5 PM, you can visit the bar on the 42nd floor for free, and there's a glass platform with amazing scenery. I'll definitely stay at the InterContinental again next time I'm in Chongqing.

King Classic City View
The hygiene was poor. I originally booked a city view room (with one window), but when I checked in, I paid an extra 700+ yuan to upgrade to a river view room with two windows. To my surprise, there were three strands of hair in the room. The butler said they would refund the extra 700+ yuan, but I would still get the upgraded room. I waited an hour for them to sort out the room, and in the end, they gave me a room with one window, just on a higher floor. It was a complete waste of my time, waiting for an hour for nothing. The value for money isn't great.

In my opinion, this is the best hotel in Chongqing. The location at Chaotianmen is superb, and the room views are excellent. The facilities are comprehensive, with a fantastic pool and gym. The restaurant's breakfast is also delicious. I must especially commend Jasmine at the bar; her service was thoughtful and meticulous. She proactively considered things from the guest's perspective, offering the most ideal suggestions.

Hongya Dieyuan Hotel (Chongqing Jiefangbei Hongyadong Branch) is on of the best scenic hotels in Chongqing. It is located in Jiefangbei area, near the famous Hongyadong. According to our guests, this hotel provides a very high level of service.

Panorama Smart Room
I brought my family to Chongqing for a trip! We experienced this magical mountain city. During the day, we explored Jiefangbei, saw the Liziba monorail passing through a building, and walked the stone paths of Shancheng Lane to feel the authentic vibe of old Chongqing. At night, when the lights of Hongyadong lit up, it felt like stepping into the world of Spirited Away. My family and I enjoyed the night view of the two rivers from our room, and the atmosphere was absolutely perfect. Of course, we couldn't miss out on authentic Chongqing hotpot, which was spicy and delicious. Although climbing up and down the hills of the mountain city was a bit tiring, I'm so glad we booked this hotel in Hongyadong. The room was clean and tidy, and the facilities were quite good, making this travel memory extra special. It's definitely worth bringing my family back again.

If I come to Chongqing again, I'll definitely choose this place!

Chongqing Hotel | Melia Chongqing

Chongqing Hotel | Melia Chongqing

Melia Chongqing is one of the best family hotels in Chongqing with unique designs. Different from those hotels in center Chongqing, it is located in Tieshanping Forest Park, where you can experience this "outside the city" paradise surrounded by mountains and water. The environment is beautiful, the hotel building is built around the lake, the facilities are complete. The spacious rooms provide a relaxing retreat, ensuring a comfortable stay.

The service is excellent. Special thanks to the hotel manager, Miss Cherish Li, receptionists Miss Mona Li and Miss Janice Yu for their patience and hospitality to our family and all out queries. We will definitely come back again. Our kids had fun making kimbab as part of the hotel activity for kids.

Childlike Melia Forest-View Double Bed Room
A huge thanks to the concierge in the picture! My car was blocked by another car, and the other driver didn't leave a contact number. He was more concerned than I was, constantly thinking of solutions, and eventually helped me move the car remotely so I could leave on time. He was incredibly responsible. The hotel's environment, rooms, family-friendly facilities, and pool are all excellent. This time, I stayed in a forest view room, and the view was still good enough for a trip with kids, offering great value for money (though the lake view room I stayed in last time definitely had a better view). Just two minor hiccups: On the afternoon of check-in, I asked the front desk in the lobby for a high chair for my child, but it wasn't delivered even by the next morning. I had to call and remind them the next morning, and the lady who answered quickly resolved it. Also, on the first afternoon when my car was blocked in the lobby, I contacted the front desk for help, and their response was a bit perfunctory. In the end, I found the concierge himself to solve the problem. There's room for improvement in service coordination, but overall, the minor flaws don't detract from the overall excellent experience.

Melia Guestroom - Lake-View (2 Beds)
A perfect stay at Melia Chongqing! Nestled between mountains and a lake, its architectural design is truly aesthetic, making every photo a masterpiece. The rooms are serene and elegant, and the hygiene is impeccable. All staff, especially Irving and Maggie, are warm, polite, and efficient. You can savor authentic Spanish cuisine and experience a diverse range of flavors. Take a leisurely stroll by the lake and enjoy the slow pace of life in this mountain city. It's a rare forest-themed resort in the main city, definitely worth a special trip.

Childlike Melia Forest-View Double Bed Room
Finally checked into Meliá Chongqing, and the experience far exceeded my expectations! The hotel is nestled in Tieshanping, surrounded by mountains and a lake, offering breathtaking natural scenery. It's very convenient to get to by car, and it's a wonderfully tranquil escape from the city hustle, incredibly healing. We booked a forest-view room and upgraded to a lake-view room, which came with its own scenic balcony. You can enjoy views of the lake and mountains right from the balcony. The room was spacious, with a simple yet tasteful decor, and the rain shower was a great experience. The mattress was just right—not too soft, not too firm—and I slept soundly until morning. The service was excellent throughout our stay. Irvin at the front desk was efficient with check-in, and Yoyo and Corina were warm and polite. The breakfast had a wide selection, featuring both local Sichuan/Chongqing flavors and Western simple meals. The hotel grounds are expansive, and the lakeside promenade offers fantastic photo opportunities everywhere you look. It’s quiet and perfect for unwinding and clearing your mind. It’s ideal for a short getaway from the city or a family trip. It's away from the busy city but still easily accessible, and the overall ambiance is fantastic. Highly recommended!

Childlike Melia Forest-View Double Bed Room
If I were to recommend a parent-child or resort hotel in Chongqing, I would definitely put Meliá Chongqing at the top of the list. Since it opened, we've brought our kids here for a few days every summer and autumn. Yes, I personally prefer visiting in summer and autumn! In the summer, I feel safe letting the kids play in the water park; it's much safer than the Jialing River and more convenient than a stream. The hotel is located in Tieshanping, very close by. The hotel's landscaping gives off a real resort vibe, or you can take a leisurely stroll in Tieshanping – it's very pleasant. The hotel also has its own restaurants, or you can drive to Yufengshan for some delicious huajiao chicken! Overall, the hotel has a great location, close to home. The environment is excellent, and the recreational facilities are abundant. It's the top choice for a resort stay in Chongqing. This time, we stayed in the mountains for 3 days. We'd wake up in the morning and take a walk in the forest, then after an afternoon nap, we'd take the kids to the water park. In the evening, we'd have dinner at the hotel's restaurant – it was truly joyful and relaxing. Additionally, I booked a travel photo shoot for the kids with Zixuan Photography at the hotel. The hotel's indoor and outdoor public areas are already quite photogenic. The photography skills and service were excellent, and the photographer was great at guiding the children to express themselves and pose. We took some beautiful photos right in the hotel lobby and by the lake. If you want a hassle-free trip with kids, choose Meliá. If you want to relax on a weekend, also choose Meliá. Why look for something far away when something great is so close?
