How to Activate and Use eSIM for New Zealand
Activating a New Zealand eSIM takes about five minutes. It’s best to install and activate it before you fly, and can be done from home.
Check If Your Phone Supports eSIM
If your phone is relatively new, released in the last five or six years, you’re good to go. All the major brands like iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones, and Google Pixels are compatible with eSIMs.
Not sure if your phone? Dial *#06# and look if you have an EID number; if it's there, your phone supports eSIM.
Steps to Install Your New Zealand eSIM
Once you've bought your eSIM on Trip.com, you'll get an email with your QR code. From here, installation is simple.
Installation steps for iPhone:
- Make sure you’re connected to your home WiFi network
- Open Settings, then select Mobile
- Tap "Add eSIM"
- Open the email you received from Trip.com
- Scan the QR code through Settings (not your camera app)
- Follow the prompts on your screen to complete setup
- Label it something easy to find, such as "NZ"
Installation steps for Android users:
- Connect to your home WiFi network
- Go to Settings, then SIM Card Management (or Connections > SIM Manager if you’re using a Samsung)

Mobile Coverage in New Zealand: What to Expect
New Zealand's mobile coverage is excellent in the major cities and tourist areas. You'll have solid 5G connections in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown, and good reception along the main tourist routes, including State Highway 1 and popular stops like Hobbiton and Waiheke Island.

The floor-to-ceiling windows are basically full of sea views, and the balcony is also full of sea views. It is very convenient to walk to the beach. It is suitable for families with children, friends gatherings, client receptions, etc. They are all independent houses with good privacy. The most important thing is that the price of 340 New Zealand dollars also includes breakfast for our family of four. The breakfast is also good and worth experiencing. Room was clean. Shampoo and soap smelt nice. I couldnt really figure out the lights between the bed and the shower as there is a sliding frosted glass door that separates the two. But all the lights turned off which is what was important. Not much of a view, only if you love construction and the layout of an airport.

After arriving in Auckland on the last flight from Queenstown, the airport transfer to the hotel took less than 10 minutes, which was super convenient for an overnight layover. You can check in at the front desk or use one of the two self-service kiosks. I booked a standard room through a third-party platform for only 500, which was great value for money. The only downside was that the walk to the room was quite long. The balcony door in the ground-floor room opened onto a small lawn, offering a bit of a view. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. The concierge desk was super helpful, you can basically ask them anything. Needed an umbrella, directions to the nearest post office, and even tape, and the staff were always quick to help (they even delivered items to our room). Service was excellent and very attentive.
Location is great too, close to the city center, so getting around was easy. There’s also a casino upstairs.

Kereru Cottage at Moana Cove, Kawau Island is a fully self-contained cottage. It has a separate bedroom with twin beds, and a double bed in the open plan lounge, dining, kitchen area. The lounge opens onto a deck with amazing views of Moana Cove and North Cove. Our jetty is very tidal so you need to arrive and depart within 2 hours of high tide times. You are surrounded at the back by native bush, and there are always native birds flying and wandering around in our space. The eagle rays basking in our tidal cove are spectacular as well. This is a spectacular spot to base yourself for a fishing or diving trip as you can use our jetty to tie up your own boat while you are here. We booked this hotel as we wanted to be north of Auckland as we’re planing a day trip up to The Bay of Islands. The room was very comfortable with all the amenities with in the room. Fully equipped bathroom, coffee machine, kettle & a big size fridge so we were able to store food we had bought.
No restaurant on site, tho excellent authentic Chinese restaurant across from the hotel. Also other variety of bars & restaurants within 5 - 10 min walk depending on what your preference.
