How to Activate and Use eSIM for New Zealand
Activating a New Zealand eSIM takes about five minutes. It’s best to install and activate it before you fly, and can be done from home.
Check If Your Phone Supports eSIM
If your phone is relatively new, released in the last five or six years, you’re good to go. All the major brands like iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones, and Google Pixels are compatible with eSIMs.
Not sure if your phone? Dial *#06# and look if you have an EID number; if it's there, your phone supports eSIM.
Steps to Install Your New Zealand eSIM
Once you've bought your eSIM on Trip.com, you'll get an email with your QR code. From here, installation is simple.
Installation steps for iPhone:
- Make sure you’re connected to your home WiFi network
- Open Settings, then select Mobile
- Tap "Add eSIM"
- Open the email you received from Trip.com
- Scan the QR code through Settings (not your camera app)
- Follow the prompts on your screen to complete setup
- Label it something easy to find, such as "NZ"

Mobile Coverage in New Zealand: What to Expect
New Zealand's mobile coverage is excellent in the major cities and tourist areas. You'll have solid 5G connections in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown, and good reception along the main tourist routes, including State Highway 1 and popular stops like Hobbiton and Waiheke Island.
The three local networks are Spark, One NZ (formerly Vodafone) and 2degrees. Spark is generally regarded as having the widest coverage, particularly across the wilder South Island. Trip.com's New Zealand eSIMs run on the One NZ and Spark networks.
A few things worth doing before you head bush:
- Download offline maps before venturing into Fiordland, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing or the Coromandel

A very cost-effective living option. We brought two babies and booked a 90-square-meter two-bedroom, one-living room apartment. The floor-to-ceiling windows are basically full of sea views, and the balcony is also full of sea views. It is very convenient to walk to the beach. It is suitable for families with children, friends gatherings, client receptions, etc. They are all independent houses with good privacy. The most important thing is that the price of 340 New Zealand dollars also includes breakfast for our family of four. The breakfast is also good and worth experiencing. The main attractions in downtown Auckland are clustered around the pier, which is also where you catch ferries to the outer islands. Mount Eden Crater, one of the city's most beautiful spots, is just over four kilometers from the pier. The Hilton is perfectly located right on the wharf, opposite the pier. On my check-out day, a large cruise ship even docked there. To get to the airport, you can take the light rail from the central station to Puhinui and then transfer to a bus. Both the trains and buses run very frequently, and the whole journey takes about 45-50 minutes. Auckland Airport has two terminals, an International Terminal and a Domestic Terminal, rather than the more common T1, T2 format. Good thing they didn't call the domestic one the 'Intranational Terminal'! Honestly, T1, T2, T3 would be much simpler and clearer. Though, I guess some less developed regions domestically also use 'Domestic Terminal' and 'International Terminal' instead of T1, T2.From€ 129

Lovely room facing harbour / sea was allocated at the reception by the vibrant , friendly and professional staff !
The ala carte breakfast is also superb with lot of choice .

This is my second time to stay at this hotel in Auckland. The rooms are very clean. The prices set on Ctrip during the first few days are particularly good and the price is particularly high. There are many gourmet supermarket attractions nearby. And the hotel also helped me with a good room type two days ago. The standard room was changed in the next two days. Later, after Ctrip also raised the price, it would cost a little more than $ 25 a day to add a parking fee. We arrived at around 10:30am and requested an early check in, as we had a 5:00am flight the following morning. We fully understood that the standard 1500pm check in time applied and that any early check-in was subject to room availability. We therefore appreciated the hotel accommodating us with a room at 1230pm. Unfortunately, the room was not ready to the standard we expected. We found an empty bottle on the floor, and the glass door/window could not be locked properly. Although, we requested a room change, we were informed that none were available at the time and maintenance advised that the lock would require drilling and screwing to repair. What disappointed us most was not the need for the repair itself, but how the situation was handled. The communication from the maintenance staff came across as abrupt when we were asked whether we wanted the repair carried out or not. We also felt greater consideration could have been given to guests, as drilling may not be suitable for those with allergies, asthma or sensitivities to dust or noise. Holiday inn has always been a brand I associate with consistent international standards, particularly from my experiences in South-East Asia. While we appreciated the hotel's flexibility in offering an early check-in, we do not believe this should come at the expense of basic expectations such as cleanliness, security, and a room that is ready for occupancy. Hopefully, this was an isolated incident rather than a reflection of the hotel's usual standards. Many guests arrive after long journeys simply looking forward to a clean, secure and comfortable place to rest. A little more thoughtfulness in both room readiness and communication would make a meaningful difference to the overall guest experience.From€ 73

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. The concierge desk was super helpful, you can basically ask them anything. Needed an umbrella, directions to the nearest post office, and even tape, and the staff were always quick to help (they even delivered items to our room). Service was excellent and very attentive.
Location is great too, close to the city center, so getting around was easy. There’s also a casino upstairs.
Only small downside was that we got confused with another SkyCity property and accidentally went to the wrong one at first. Parking was also a bit tricky to find.From€ 109

This is an older hotel, and while the facilities are a bit dated, the environment is very pleasant. Our window directly overlooked Albert Park, and what's great is that the window could be opened slightly, which made for excellent ventilation. The hotel breakfast was also good. Unfortunately, because I wasn't sure if the stay would be comfortable, I only booked 2 nights initially. We booked a two-bedroom suite for two weeks while our child attended a temporary class. First off, the location is incredibly convenient. It's within a 3-minute drive of shopping malls, drugstores, and various supermarkets (red, green, yellow). There's also a large Chinese supermarket right across the street from the hotel, well-stocked with many Sam's Club and Hema Fresh products. Plus, there's a Chinese butcher shop where you can buy odor-free pork. The room itself is equipped with an oven, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, a two-burner stove, and all necessary cutlery and cooking utensils. You can essentially prepare meals for your child directly in the room. The only downside was that the non-stick coating on the pots was damaged, so I bought new ones locally. The room is very bright, and the bedroom windows can be opened. The air conditioning and shower water were both comfortable. When we sometimes didn't get a chance to wash the dishes after dropping off our child, housekeeping would even put them in the dishwasher for us. However, after the first two or three days, they stopped tidying up the bedroom, and the beds were always messy. The front desk staff were very friendly, especially several Chinese staff members, which made communication easy.From€ 83
