Shanghai Club Guide: The Best Nightclubs in Shanghai and How to Get In

Author's Profile Picture
Shanghai Club Guide

Shanghai's club scene is one of the biggest in Asia, and right now most of it is packed into two places: INS Land, a six-floor club complex inside Fuxing Park, and C-Park, a basement full of underground clubs out in Changning. Add a handful of standalone clubs on Huaihai Road and the Bund, and you've got everything from big-room EDM to hard techno to enjoy on a night out here.

This guide covers the best clubs in Shanghai, what you can expect to spend on a night out, dress codes, tickets, and how to get home once the metro has stopped.

Best Clubs in Shanghai

If you’ve only got time enough for one night out, I’d recommend making a beeline for INS Land. It's a simple introduction to the clubbing scene in Shanghai, with around ten clubs inside one building, all of them covered by a single pass. If you’re craving something with a bit more character, C-Park is where the city's underground scene has moved in 2026, and getting in is free.

INS Land

INS Land is the heavyweight club complex in the city. It sits inside Fuxing Park, which is a short walk from Xintiandi. Inside, you’ll get to choose between hip-hop, EDM, house and K-pop clubs, all of them stacked on top of one another across six floors. It's young, loud and open every night of the week, perfect for when you’re keen to go out but not going to be in the city on the weekend. More on how the pass works below.

MAX

MAX is Shanghai's big commercial EDM club, a sensory-overload room on Huaihai Middle Road with lasers, LED screens and DJs. If you want the full big-club experience outside INS, this is it. Doors usually open at 9:30pm and the dancing goes all night until 6am.

KEV

Down on the Bund, KEV takes up the seventh floor of Bund 18, the same space where Bar Rouge partied for years. It's a commercial club with a large terrace looking across the Huangpu River to the Lujiazui skyline, so it's the one to choose if the view matters as much as the music.

Best Clubs in Shanghai | KEV

Potent and Abyss

You’ll find both of these clubs inside the TX Huaihai mall, also located on Huaihai Middle Road. Potent has two rooms: pop in the main room, and techno, house and electro in the second, which has one of the best sound systems and regularly books big international acts to play. Abyss is Shanghai's home of hard techno, so expect harder, faster music.

Heim

Heim is a community-focused club at Green Station, on the corner of Shaanxi South Road and Changle Road. The sound is bouncier, more melodic house and techno rather than the hard stuff, and Green Station itself stays lively until 3am or 4am on weekends.

C-Park: Reactor, Illum and Wigwam

C-Park is a mall in Changning whose basement has filled up with clubs, bars, livehouses and food stalls, earning it the nickname "the underground INS". Most of it opened in early 2026, and it's now where Shanghai's underground music scene gathers. Reactor and Illum host the bigger techno, electro and drum and bass nights, while Wigwam is a laid-back club and lounge that's open every day.

There's no cover charge to enter C-Park, which makes it the best value night out in this guide.

Doop

Doop opened in October 2026 in a basement at 298 Xingfu Road, an address that's been home to Shanghai clubs since the 1990s. It's a stripped-back, dark room with a warm sound system and an eclectic music policy. C's, a long-running dive bar where many of the city's DJs started out, is just down the road if you want a drink first.

Le Baron

The Parisian club Le Baron is now on its second Shanghai incarnation, upstairs at The English Corner in Xuhui. It plays pop and international hits to a mixed crowd, and it currently offers a RMB98 (approximately AU$21) open bar.

INS Land Tickets, Clubs and How It Works

INS Land (also called INS Park, short for "Into Nothing Serious") is the six-floor nightlife complex inside Fuxing Park. In April 2026, it was ranked No. 12 in DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs poll, making it the highest-ranked club in China and third in Asia.

Rather than having a cover charge for each club, you buy one pass for the entire building and can freely move between all of them as you please

Great prices, entry to all bars in the building. Many bars offer a free drink per person. At Friend's, you can get a whole tower of drinks for free – get really drunk! I recommend going from 11 PM onwards; it's a lot of fun!

I was a little wary of Shanghai's most popular club, but I really liked it! I went on a Friday, and it was really crowded, so Sundays and other weekdays are the most comfortable. They always offer a free drink upon entry. The best club for me in terms of music and atmosphere was Hush on the second floor—it's a 10/10. Lafin was also interesting; there were more foreigners there than other places, it's more laid-back, but the music is still good.

Honestly, it's unheard of. There are seven floors, nine nightclubs, and a free drink at each club, including one with unlimited alcohol. Overall, in terms of value for money, I think it's impossible to beat. Each club has its own style, so you can completely switch between different vibes incredibly easily. The staff is friendly, and the different venues are amazing. If you're nearby, go; it's truly incredible.

The pass is also sold through INS's own WeChat mini program and app. That route means setting up WeChat first, and some overseas visitors find the payment fails with a foreign card or that a Chinese mobile number is needed.

Whichever way you book, redeem your pass at each venue early in the night to collect your wristbands, so you don't have to queue again later.

How to Get to INS Land

INS Land is at 109 Yandang Road, inside Fuxing Park in Huangpu. There's also an entrance at 516 Fuxing Middle Road. The nearest metro stations are Xintiandi (Lines 10 and 13) and South Huangpi Road (Line 1).

I wasn't planning on taking it, but I would have regretted it if I hadn't. Admiring the illuminated city along the river was so dreamlike. I highly recommend it. However, it felt a bit unfair to put chairs inside the cruise ship and charge an extra 10,000 won.

The vibe while visiting the bund is just amazing and unexpected.I went there during the day and stayed there until the evening just to witness the lights and the bund in lights looks even more amazing then in daytime.

Shanghai Club Dress Code and Door Policy

Dress codes, as with elsewhere, will depend on the club you’re trying to get into. At the commercial clubs (MAX, KEV, Le Baron), smart casual is the safe choice: collared shirts, dresses, dark jeans and proper shoes. Skip sportswear, thongs and anything that looks like you've come from the gym, especially on weekends.

At C-Park, Heim, Abyss and Doop, you can go even more casual. Wherever you go, make sure you've got your passport. Clubs check ID at the doors.

How to Get Home After Clubbing in Shanghai

The Shanghai Metro stops running well before the clubs close, so plan on a DiDi or a taxi home. DiDi works in English and accepts Australian cards once linked, and taxis are metered and plentiful around Xintiandi and the Bund.

Before you head out, save a screenshot of your hotel's name and address in Chinese. Show it to your driver, and you won't have to explain anything at 5am.

Where to Stay for Shanghai Nightlife

Clubs nearby

Why stay here

Xintiandi and Huaihai Road

INS Land, MAX, Potent, Abyss

Walking distance (or a short ride) from most of the big clubs

The Bund

KEV, the Long Bar

Classic hotels and river views; a longer ride to INS

Jing'an

Heim, plus plenty of bars

Central, well connected by metro, lots of restaurants

Changning

C-Park, Doop

Close to the underground scene, quieter streets

My pick would be Xintiandi. You can walk home from INS, and you're right in the middle of the city for sightseeing the next day (or the next afternoon).
