How to Get to Xi'an from Australia

Getting to Xi'an | #1 Flights
There are currently no non-stop flights between Australia and Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY), so every itinerary includes at least one stopover. The most common routings from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth connect through Guangzhou (China Southern), Shanghai Pudong (China Eastern), Shenzhen (Shenzhen Airlines), Xiamen (Xiamen Airlines), Chengdu (Sichuan Airlines), Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific) or Singapore (Singapore Airlines / Scoot).
Expect roughly 11.5–13.5 hours in the air; with an efficient 2–3 hour layover, total journey time is around 14–16 hours on the fastest connections.
If you connect through a mainland Chinese hub such as Guangzhou or Shanghai, you'll clear Chinese immigration and customs at your first point of entry, not in Xi'an — allow at least 2–2.5 hours for the domestic transfer. Connecting via Hong Kong or Singapore keeps you airside until you land in Xi'an.

About the Xi'an City Wall

The Xi'an City Wall was built in the Hongwu era of the Ming dynasty (1370 AD) on the foundations of the Tang-dynasty Chang'an city, and has been repaired many times since. It runs for about 13.7 km in a rectangle enclosing the old city of Xi'an, forming a tightly organised defensive system and standing as one of the most complete ancient city walls in China. The wall body is broad and solid, surrounded by a moat, and fitted with corner towers, watchtowers and arrow towers as military defences — it was wide enough for five horses to ride abreast, making it a model of ancient Chinese city fortification. Today the Xi'an City Wall blends history with culture, is one of Xi'an's landmarks, and lets you cycle along the top while slowly taking in the past. It's one of Xi'an's essential stops.

How to get to the Xi'an City Wall

The wall has four main access points: the South Gate (Yongning Men), North Gate (Anyuan Men), East Gate (Changle Men) and West Gate (Anding Men). The South Gate is the most popular and by far the easiest to reach.
- Metro: take Xi'an Metro Line 2 to Yongningmen Station and walk about 3 minutes to the South Gate entrance.
- Bus: routes 8, 601 and 603 stop right by the Xi'an City Wall South Gate entrance.
Must-see Sights on the Xi'an City Wall

Must-see sights | #1 Yongning Men (South Gate)
Yongning Men was originally the An Shang Gate, on the eastern side of the southern face of the Sui–Tang imperial city of Chang'an. It passed through the Five Dynasties, Song, Jin and Yuan periods before being rebuilt in the 11th year of the Hongwu era of the Ming dynasty, and is the best-preserved and largest gate on the Xi'an City Wall. If you have time, rent a bike and cycle the wall — it's the best way to take in the history at your own pace.
Must-see sights | #2 Arrow Tower
The Arrow Tower is tall and imposing, with three levels: an arched gateway passage at the base, quarters for garrison troops and weapon storage in the middle, and arrow windows on top for defending against attackers. The design is precise and the presence commanding — it shows both the sophistication of ancient military engineering and the grandeur of Ming-dynasty architecture.
Must-see sights | #3 The Xi'an City Wall at night
Once the lights come on, the Xi'an City Wall glows. Heading up at dusk is the best option, so you get both the sunset and the switch to the illuminated night view.

Novotel Xi'an Bell Tower is located right in the city center, right next to the Bell Tower, making getting around super convenient! There's even a direct shuttle bus right outside the hotel. The room amenities were great and the environment was spotless! I stayed for three days during the National Day holiday: the hotel service was exceptionally attentive, and the breakfast was rich with great local specialties. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay.
The location is excellent, right in the city center, and the subway exit is right outside the hotel.
The room was spacious and clean, and the bedding was soft and comfortable, ensuring a very peaceful sleep.
The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area, and the hot water supply was stable.
The front desk staff were efficient with check-in and very friendly.
The hotel facilities were comprehensive.
The environment was quiet, and both transportation and parking were convenient, making it suitable for both leisure and business travel. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Xi'an.FromUS$ 67

The hotel environment is fantastic. It's a real oasis in the city center with a beautiful garden where you can stroll around, and every corner offers a picturesque view. The room was incredibly spacious and offered great value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful, always opening doors and assisting with luggage. The bell tower The drum tower/The Xi’an Circumvallation Xi'an|0.64km from downtown
Lovely hotel, we had a huge room with 2 TVs and probably one of my favourite showers out of hundreds of hotels. The breakfast was great, staff very friendly and great location right at the heart of Xian and only 30-40min by Didi from XianBei (North Station). The exterior of the hotel didn't do it justice, but once you are in the lobby everything is taken care of. Drum and Bell towers are both easily walkable 10-15min stroll through restaurant streets and make a lovely sunset visit (open till 9pm) and wandering around the exciting if slightly chaotic street food vendors of the Muslim Quarter just next to the towers are well exploring. Get some Biang Biang or a Xian traditional Chinese Burger. The Metro is also about 10-15 mins walk roughly near the drum tower which can take you to Huaqing Palace in about 50mins North East of the city (1 simple line change) I suggest you get entry tickets and shuttle for both palace and Terracotta Warriors (+10 mins shuttle from Huaqing Palace).FromUS$ 61

The location is close to Chang乐 Gate and Yongxingfang, but you'll need to bike or take a ride-share to the subway. We mostly used taxis to get around. The decor is a bit dated, but the lobby has a distinct Shaanxi character, and the lighting and other details create a nice ambiance. The in-room amenities are complete but also quite old; they really should consider replacing things like the hair dryer. Breakfast was decent, with good roujiamo (meat burger), youpo lazi (oil-splashed chili sauce), and shepherd's purse wontons. The children enjoyed the zenggao (steamed glutinous rice cake) and black rice porridge, though the salad bar was a bit limited. The service was good. The front desk was excellent, and the service for the hot water basin beef in the restaurant was great. The lady making roujiamo was enthusiastic, and the housekeeping staff even replenished my bath bags when they noticed I like to take baths. The service really made up for the outdated facilities.FromUS$ 72

This hotel is located right next to Xi'an's Bell Tower, in a very bustling area. Places like Chang'an Grand Bazaar and Eight Hundred Li Qin Chuan are just downstairs, making dining incredibly convenient and lively. Personally, I found it very convenient, and it's also close to the subway entrance.
Service: I thought the service was very warm. I asked if they had well-done fried eggs, and the lady making eggs in the breakfast restaurant specially made two well-done eggs for me.
Hygiene: Good, though there was still a slight smell of renovation in the room. However, as long as the window was open, the smell disappeared.FromUS$ 40

The bell tower The drum tower/The Xi’an Circumvallation Xi'an|0.66km from downtown
It was a pleasant stay with the very reasonable price with breakfast provided.
But what it shocked us was the room we requested is FULLY NON SMOKING ROOM and the signage display a non smoking room level, you still can smell heavy cigarettes on the floor, even you can spot the cigarette smoke under the light clearly. I think the hotel caters the group tours and the local guests were arranged on the same floor and they open their doors and fully, chi-chatting to next door loudly and smoking in the same time with fully ignoring the signage warning. This is the only unpleasant way with our experience on staying 2 nights here.
Oh ya, by the way the hotel should limit the tour agent on hard selling their local package tour to the guests too repetitive. We have arranged our tour and told them all were booked in advanced, but their hard sell attitude has annoyed us many times while entering or exiting the hotel.
The breakfast is nice.FromUS$ 26

My first time trying this place, and I thought it was great! I booked the cheapest room, which I think was a 16-person dorm, but the front desk lady upgraded me to a 12-person one. I even extended my stay for another night.
The environment inside is quite peaceful. Everyone in the common areas is pretty respectful, except for a few loud shouts during billiards sometimes!
Oh, and there were a lot of foreigners, couples mostly, chatting among themselves – it had a nice vibe.
Since it was my first time, I wasn't familiar with everything and didn't prepare toiletries. When I went to shower, I even saw two guys coming out of the same stall, which honestly stunned me a bit.
However, the privacy in the restrooms and shower rooms is excellent; they're all enclosed. The hot water comes on quickly, the water pressure is strong, and everything is clean.
Everyone seemed pretty well-behaved. I mostly kept to myself, though, and didn't really interact with anyone. At one point, a foreigner asked me in English if he could use a stool. I honestly didn't understand anything he said, but I got his meaning and just waved my hand. He must have thought I was refusing him because he started to leave. I was so flustered I couldn't speak, just waving my hands around like fans, trying to convey my meaning. He must have seen my panic and understood, so he moved the stool. Only then could I relax and continue drinking my hot water alone. (I saw the front desk staff, both a guy and a lady, speaking English with the foreigners, and I was so envious! Ugh, I can only read English; I can't understand or speak it. I really need to practice my listening and speaking skills. I'll try my luck again next time.)
Overall, I think it's a pretty good place.
Oh, and its location is fantastic, right by the Bell Tower. But make sure you exit the correct subway station, or else a directionally challenged person like me will spend almost an hour wandering around trying to find it!FromUS$ 6

We were quite lucky on this trip. The front desk staff, Yuly, was especially enthusiastic and upgraded us for free to a high-floor river view room. Upon entering, we found the layout to be very well-designed. The bed by the window, offering a comfortable view of the river, was a highlight, and the separated wet and dry areas in the bathroom were very practical. Yuly even messaged us to ask if we needed anything else, a proactive service that's quite rare. The room was quiet with no noise, allowing us to rest soundly these past few nights. A big thank you to Yuly for making our trip so much more relaxing! 🌉FromUS$ 77

Love love love this hotel!!! I stayed with my friend in a 2 bed 2 bath room for 8 nights and it was extremely spacious and comfortable. The rooms were very clean and the beds super super super comfy ( I could sleep it in all day but my itinerary was super full). The photos online are quite true to the actual room. They had extremely good service too, starting from the airport pickup, where they were on time and the car was spacious and luxurious! We did the 5 seater sedan at RMB100, the price is comparable to a didi premium but the difference is that they would track your flight and made sure to you were taken care of. The hotel even had Butler service and was very attentive, I could even get them to help store my friend's birthday cake sent from the local cake shop and send it up to us when we were back. The laundry service was handy for a long stay, it was easy to use (and we were on the same floor so it felt like home to just go to and from our room to the laundry room). They even had special prices for popular shows, easily saving more than 50% of the listed price. Thanks for being a home away from home! PS the cats on the 2nd floor is super cute!FromUS$ 38

Dayan Pagoda/The Grand Tang Mall Xi'an|5.15km from downtown
Honestly, this hotel completely exceeded my expectations. I had seen very negative reviews about it on Xiaohongshu, mainly saying it was too old, and Ctrip also listed it as a 2012 hotel. However, my actual stay found it quite new, and none of those mentioned flaws were present.
I initially booked it just for its convenient location, expecting a 150-yuan experience for a 1500-yuan price. Yet, the overall actual feeling was comparable to the Seven Oceans Hotel in Xiamen. The room had a bidet, a large bed, welcome fruit, and they even offered a complimentary breakfast for my child. The front desk staff was incredibly warm and welcoming.
In short, all the negative reviews on Xiaohongshu were completely unfounded; it was far beyond what I expected. The only minor drawback was finding a hair on a bath towel when I opened it, but I won't dwell on that.FromUS$ 104

The room was clean and tidy, offering great value for money. A special shout-out to the housekeeping auntie, who was always warm and friendly, greeting us every time she passed by – it was truly heartwarming. The male staff member at the front desk who handled our check-in was professional and amiable, providing excellent service. The hotel arranged a room with a great view for us, and it was the best view we had among all the five-star hotels we stayed at during this trip. The lobby staff were polite and attentive, and the doorman at the entrance actively opened doors for us when we arrived and departed, and helped with our luggage. The location is excellent; it's a five to six-minute walk to Qujiang Ruins Park, which has a beautiful environment, and Datang Furong Garden is also just a five to six-minute walk away. There's also a shopping complex nearby, making dining, accommodation, transportation, and entertainment all incredibly convenient. The Cantonese restaurant within the hotel also offered delicious food. When checking out, the female front desk staff even specially prepared a suitable small gift for our little boy – the attention to detail was exceptional. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with our stay! After comparing many options, we chose this European brand hotel, and indeed, based on my experience, foreign-owned hotels generally have an edge in service detail management. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family. While other tourist services in Xi'an weren't great, our stay at this hotel was quite comfortable!FromUS$ 111

For over thirty years, I've passed by, stopped, and observed this place countless times. After much hesitation, I finally took advantage of a weekend getaway to experience and connect with it. From the opening of Chang'an Castle Hotel, its continuation as Grand Regal Castle Hotel, to its re-launch as Grand Barony Castle Hotel – a landmark in Xi'an's historical and cultural development, a living chronicle of ancient city culture – it finally unfolded before my eyes.
A hotel isn't just a place for travelers to rest; it's also a venue for sharing its inherent spirit with all visitors. Witnessing its timeless classic decor, the aged wooden furniture, its steadfast resistance to modern fast-paced trends, and the inherent tranquility and elegance etched into its very being, it gradually reveals the inclusiveness and understanding of Eastern aesthetics to visitors from around the world. Facing the Yongning Gate city wall, overlooking the square below, countless tourists moving in and out before your eyes, you can't help but feel a connection to the lives of people a thousand years ago. The hotel boasts spacious rooms, an open interior, and a clean, hygienic environment. The staff are courteous, and there's a high proportion of foreign guests. With reasonable prices, it's an excellent choice for anyone visiting Xi'an.

My wife and I were on our pre-wedding trip, and it was our first stay at the Grand Hyatt Xi'an. We'd like to extend our gratitude to Ms. Cherry Ma Jia Lin and Ms. Lexi Hu Xing Xing from the Front Desk for their excellent communication and thoughtful arrangements before our arrival. Upon learning it was our honeymoon, the hotel arranged beautiful handmade floral decorations in our room and provided a welcome amenity. Throughout our stay, they proactively followed up on our minor requests. This level of dedication is truly commendable, especially considering the current trend of luxury brands focusing on cost-cutting and efficiency.
During our stay, we also appreciate all the staff at the Grand Club. The hot food and snack offerings were great, and the service consistently maintained a high standard.

This hotel is our top choice for family vacations with kids; I highly recommend booking a room in the Imperial Tower! The Imperial Tower's elevator goes directly to the hot springs and swimming pool, so you don't have to walk far. It's super convenient for kids to enjoy the hot springs and swimming, saving you the hassle of walking back and forth, and it's very kid-friendly.
The hotel has a traditional Chinese garden setting, which is quiet and comfortable, and the room hygiene is well-maintained. The location is excellent; it's right next to an outlet mall, so you can easily go shopping in your free time. Transportation is also convenient, making it perfect for a short trip from Xi'an.
The buffet dinner tastes good and offers a wide variety, so both adults and children can find something they love. The only downside is that the menu updates are infrequent; if you stay multiple times, the dishes feel similar, lacking a sense of novelty.
Overall, it's very suitable for short family getaways around Xi'an. With hot springs, swimming, and outlet shopping all in one place, it's an effortless way to entertain the kids.FromUS$ 84

Unfortunately i didn't take many pictures but recorded videos. I booked a room type as shown in the first but received something smaller as the one in the second pic, weirdly cut. I didn't notice it as first as i was distracted by the strong smoke smell and asked the lady to change, who tried to sell me a qin shi huang mausoleum tour. Then i was brought to a room type as the one in the first pic, that's when i realised that's what i initially had booked... but there was still a smoke smell and as i really had to use the toilet i simply thought of using the A/C and opening the window, hoping it'd get better. By the evening i got startled by someone knocking at the door only to realise it was someone knocking on my neighbouring door. That's when i realised there was a 1-2cm gap between the floor and door and why i heard that loud knock. I also noticed neighbouring doors were fine and even asked the neighbouring guests if they could hear me. Anyway; that's when i demanded for a second change and only then, when i was a bit assertive and insisting on a new room, did i get a proper room. But there was small issue with the 3rd room too, with the drainage as the water took around 5mins to flow away, making noise. But that wasn't an big issue. It seems like this hotel seems to follow the procedure to give problematic rooms to customers who seem easy-going, which is a known tactic to chinese people from china but not so to foreigners. Beside of that, my stay was pleasant, the breakfast was rich and they have a big variety. I just think it was a bit of a waste of time trying to sell those tobacco smell rooms to me. You can easily fix those by endorsing proper no smoking rules or use a filter machine before, removing smoke. Beside of the convenience as it's really close to all main attractions i just find those actions subpar. Which is an issue with whoever decides to implement such strategies.FromUS$ 44

Dayan Pagoda/The Grand Tang Mall Xi'an|7.91km from downtown
My stay at the W Hotel Xi'an was excellent. Although the hotel opened around 2014 and has been around for some years, the facilities are incredibly well-maintained. The design is vibrant, with a trendy cyberpunk style that cleverly merges with Xi'an's rich ancient history, bringing new life to the millennium-old city. The luxury isn't overt; it's hidden in every meticulous detail.
We booked a lake-view room, and the balcony view was stunning. Stepping out onto the balcony, you could overlook Qujiangchi Park, with the beautiful lake scenery stretching before you. The room offered a variety of pillows; the buckwheat and anti-snore pillows were very comfortable, and the bedding was soft, ensuring a great night's sleep. The hotel corridors and elevators also feature unique elements, perfect for taking photos.
A special thank you goes to Vera from Guest Relations for her thoughtful arrangements throughout our stay. She provided complimentary sightseeing bus tickets and a travel photography service. Our room also had welcome fruits and cocktails. The staff were friendly and responsive. The breakfast selection was extensive, offering both Western dishes and authentic local Shaanxi snacks, all of which tasted great. I highly recommend choosing this hotel for your trip to Xi'an.FromUS$ 180

High-tech Zone Xi'an|5.38km from downtown
During the National Day holiday, we decided to make a spontaneous trip to Xi'an. We chose Shangri-La because my family had a wonderful experience at the Guangzhou Shangri-La previously. Plus, the Xi'an Shangri-La has a great location, not far from the subway station, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. While it's not directly next to tourist attractions, the advantage is that it's quiet and not noisy.
Upon check-in, the front desk upgraded us to a garden-view room, which wasn't on the main road side and had an unobstructed view. The room was very spacious, and even though the hotel has been open for many years, the facilities are still well-maintained and very clean. Breakfast was extensive, with many local Shaanxi specialties; the 'roujiamo' (Chinese hamburger) and meatball soup were delicious.
Overall, the hotel environment is excellent, and the service is very attentive. We will definitely choose to stay here again on our next visit to Xi'an.FromUS$ 88

The bell tower The drum tower/The Xi’an Circumvallation Xi'an|1.3km from downtown
The environment is clean and the service is great, with staff always ready to answer any questions. The decor is Chinese style, and it's quite quiet outside the window. There are three hotels inside, so it might be a bit tricky to find the exact location. Regarding the all-in-one control panel, once you press to turn everything off, it's quite fiddly to find the buttons to turn things back on. I suggest using physical buttons for the bedside lamps; many hotels now use voice commands for smart systems, which would also be more convenient.FromUS$ 43

I was very satisfied with this stay. The room was spacious and not cramped, with a comfortable layout. The cleanliness was excellent; the bedding and bathroom were spotless, with no odors. All facilities and equipment were complete and worked well; the air conditioning, TV, and outlets were all functional. The shower had stable water flow, moderate pressure, and hot water came quickly, making for a great showering experience. The soundproofing exceeded expectations; I barely heard any noise from the hallway or outside at night, allowing for a very restful sleep. The breakfast had a rich variety and good taste, with options to suit different needs. Overall, everything was reliable, and I would choose this place again for my next trip.FromUS$ 46

My stay at The Ritz-Carlton Xi'an was truly excellent. The hotel is located in the Gaoxin area, offering a very peaceful and quiet environment. The lobby is stunning, with Tang Dynasty and pomegranate motifs everywhere, making it perfect for photos. The room was spacious, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised by the turndown service, which even included a local 'Bingfeng' soda – a lovely little detail!
The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of options, not just Western dishes, but also local Shaanxi specialties like Roujiamo and Youpo noodles, all of which tasted great. The staff were all very polite and attentive, responding quickly to any requests.
The only minor downside is its distance from ancient city attractions like the Bell and Drum Tower and Yongning Gate, requiring a bit of a taxi ride. However, if you're looking for a comfortable and quiet stay and don't mind traveling a little for sightseeing, I highly recommend this hotel. It's perfect for a relaxing getaway.FromUS$ 180

This is by far the best hotel I've stayed at in recent years!
The entire hotel staff is highly professional, and their excellent service is evident at every step of your stay. While waiting for a ride-hailing car in the lobby, staff members would proactively approach me to ask about my destination and offer guidance for travel if I had questions. When I was taking photos in the lobby, staff members would also come over to help me find good angles and assist with the pictures. Whether it was checking in, having breakfast, or being at the hotel's pool or bar... in every scenario during my stay, I felt meticulous and thoughtful service, with many proactive and attentive touches that made for a very comfortable experience.
I especially want to thank Flora Qiu Jianyue from the concierge team. We had three suitcases with us, and the booked car couldn't fit all of them, so we needed to move luggage back and forth. It was the scorching midday sun in Xi'an, and I was waiting in the shade with my three children. I called her over to avoid the sun, but she insisted on staying in the scorching sun to look after our luggage, helped us move it back and forth, and arranged for a different car. This small detail was truly heartwarming.
The hotel's predecessor was the historic People's Grand Hotel, now part of the Sofitel Legend brand. The building itself boasts a rich historical heritage, but it's impeccably maintained. The furniture and public areas are kept in pristine condition, appearing new and polished, and everything is meticulously cared for, striking a perfect balance between old and new.
The breakfast selection is abundant, and the taste is excellent. The toiletries provided in the room are Maison Caulières 'L'Aube des Sens,' with a sophisticated and gentle fragrance that I really enjoyed.
Both the hardware maintenance and the service awareness of all staff members are impeccable. You definitely shouldn't miss this hotel when you come to Xi'an.FromUS$ 212

I frequently stay at Sheraton. Arriving very early this time due to an early morning flight, I was extremely exhausted and decided to ask the front desk if a complimentary early check-in might be possible. Seeing that a room was available, the staff went out of their way to request free early check-in for me, which was such a thoughtful touch. They even gave me a complimentary Starbucks coffee. The hotel lobby features a standard Chinese-style interior. When I needed to print some documents, I was able to use the self-service printing in the large bar area.FromUS$ 59

The hotel room was very clean, and the facilities were decent. It was on a high floor, but the downside was the limited number of power outlets (though USB charging ports were available). The breakfast spread was excellent, and the staff were very courteous. The hotel's location is quite convenient, not far from the main attractions. Xi'an Museum and Small Wild Goose Pagoda are just a 10-15 minute walk away, and taxis are easily accessible. Overall, it's a very good choice.FromUS$ 70

My family and I recently stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott, and it exceeded our expectations. The value for money was exceptional.
The hotel looks brand new.
As soon as we arrived, a security guard opened the car door for us, helped with our luggage, and greeted us warmly. It made us feel comfortable and instantly put us in a good mood.
Check-in at the front desk was very quick. We also received complimentary welcome fruit and mooncakes, and the staff were incredibly friendly.
The room was clean and tidy, the bathroom was very spacious, and the bed was extremely comfortable, allowing for a great night's sleep.
The breakfast was abundant and delicious, with a wide variety of choices.
The location is very convenient, close to the high-speed rail station, and there's a shopping mall right next door that's easily accessible.

The front desk staff were friendly and efficient with the check-in process. The room was spotless, the bathroom had a great wet/dry separation with no odors, and the bedding was soft and clean. First off, the location is excellent; it's right next to Xiangzi Temple, and there's a delicious kebab place downstairs. The hotel staff are very friendly, the lobby decor is beautiful, and the rooms are new with comfortable bedding. The minibar is complimentary, which is a nice touch. My only minor complaint is that you have to pay to watch TV, though you can cast your own content. The breakfast is a definite highlight. It's served on the rooftop terrace with a great view of the city walls, making for a very pleasant experience. Plus, it's a good mix of Western and Chinese options with plenty of variety.FromUS$ 46

Booked this place with friends for our trip, and it totally exceeded our expectations! As soon as we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised. The room was much more spacious than we anticipated. Even with three beds, it didn't feel cramped at all. The bedding was soft and clean, with no musty or strange smells, so we slept incredibly well. The little details in the room were also very thoughtful. The small round table and chairs by the window were perfect for holding our things and chatting. The bathroom was spotless – the sink and toilet were sparkling, and I didn't see any stains even in the corners. It felt really reassuring to use. The front desk staff were also very kind and patient. Overall, our stay was super comfortable, and it's excellent value for money. Suggested routes | #2 The full loop
Enter at the South Gate → head clockwise past the West Gate, North Gate and East Gate, and back to the South Gate (about 3 hours on foot) → plenty of chances to photograph the city skyline and the old-meets-new contrast along the way.

It was our pleasure to have experienced the tour under the guidance of 肖导. She took great care of us and explained each attraction in great detail. Her explanations breathed life into the displays and gave context on what we were looking at. Even after the tour, she helped to coordinate with the driver to ensure that we got back safely to the hotel. Thank you 肖导 for your great service! 😊

For those short on time, hiring a bike on top of the wall lets you complete the full circuit in approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. -
Is the Xian City Wall free to enter?
No, the Xian City Wall is not free to enter. Adult admission is approximately CNY 54 (around AU$11–12), making it excellent value for one of China's most significant historical sites. The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications that stretches thousands of kilometres across northern China, while the Xian City Wall is a separate, self-contained city fortification built around the ancient capital of Xi'an during the Ming dynasty. The Xian City Wall is actually better preserved and more accessible than most sections of the Great Wall, and its full 13.74 km circuit can be walked or cycled in a single visit. -
