Shapingba Railway Station: Your Gateway to the City Center

Shapingba Station is the most centrally located of all Chongqing’s train stations, making it a super convenient choice if you’re staying in the heart of the Shapingba district. It primarily serves high-speed trains along the Chongqing-Chengdu route, along with various short-distance regional services.

  • It’s the quickest way to zip over to Chengdu for a day trip, with direct Fuxing high-speed trains getting you there in just about an hour.
  • Getting around is a breeze, thanks to the city's fantastic network of metro lines and bus routes that connect you to everything!
  • As a smaller urban station, you'll find it's a breeze to get from the entrance to the platform, with much shorter walks than at the three major hubs.

How to Book Train Tickets for Chongqing’s Train Stations

There are three easy ways to book your train tickets for departures from Chongqing’s train stations:

  1. Trip.com: The ultimate choice for international travelers, featuring a user-friendly, multi-language interface. Plus, your e-tickets are linked directly to the travel document you used for booking, making your journey seamless.
  2. Official 12306 app: This is China's go-to platform for booking train tickets, and the best part is that it features an English interface! Just a heads-up for fellow travelers: if you're using a foreign passport, you might need to wait 3–5 business days for your identity verification to clear before you can snag your first ticket.
  3. Station ticket counters: Available at all of Chongqing’s major train stations. Large hubs feature dedicated international passenger counters with English-speaking staff. A valid passport is required for purchase.

How to Catch a Train at Chongqing’s Train Stations

How to Catch a Train at Chongqing’s Train Stations

How to Catch a Train at Chongqing’s Train Stations

Boarding is a breeze at all of Chongqing’s train stations! Just follow these simple steps for a smooth departure:

  1. We recommend arriving at the station 45–60 minutes before your scheduled departure. Be sure to allow for extra time during national holidays and peak travel seasons!
  2. Head through security and have your ID ready: all bags will be X-rayed, so just make sure you have your valid travel document (passport or Mainland Travel Permit) handy!
  3. Head into the waiting hall and take a quick peek at the digital departure screens to double-check your boarding gate and time—you're almost on your way!
  4. Boarding usually kicks off 15–30 minutes before departure. Just scan your travel document at the gate, and you're all set to head on through!
    • If you're traveling with a foreign passport, please head over to the Manual Channel and have your physical passport ready to show our friendly station staff!
    • If you're a permanent resident card holder, you're welcome to breeze through using our self-service gates or head over to the manual channels—whichever you prefer!
  5. Simply follow the overhead signs to your platform, then find your carriage and settle into your assigned seat!

A Guide to Using Chongqing’s Train Stations

  • Book your tickets early: Tickets go on sale 15 days before departure. Popular routes like Chongqing-Chengdu can sell out within minutes during Chinese New Year, National Day Golden Week, and long weekends.
  • Be sure to confirm your station and terminal hall in advance: Chongqing North Station is unique in that it has separate North and South halls for different train categories. Double-check your ticket before you head out, and be sure to tell your taxi driver exactly which hall you need so you don't miss your train!
  • Keep your passport handy! Unlike European train stations, you’ll need to show your travel documents at the station entrance, the ticket counter, and the platform gate.
  • Get to know your train categories: G, D, and C series are your high-speed options, while Z, T, and K series are the classic, slower trains. Just a heads-up—they often depart from different stations or terminals, so double-check your ticket!
  • Download offline maps in advance: Mobile signal can be spotty on the underground levels of some stations. For uninterrupted connectivity, consider grabbing a China eSIM for your trip!

The location is fantastic, making getting around super easy. Ziwei Road is right across the street, so grabbing a Heytea is incredibly convenient! In the evening, after a drink or two, it's just a two-minute walk back to the hotel. The room was clean, the bedding was soft and comfy against the skin, and the soundproofing was excellent – I slept soundly all night. The breakfast selection was quite diverse and totally exceeded my expectations; it felt like incredible value for money. Besides the usual Chinese and Western options, I highly recommend the freshly made noodles – they were delicious, and you can customize the spice level yourself. Overall, the experience was great. I'll definitely choose this place again next time I'm in Chongqing!

We had a wonderful stay at Hilton Chongqing. The breakfast spread was great to start the day. But the real highlight was China Moon, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant. We ended up having all our dinners there during the stay, the food was simply amazing. Every dish was flavorful, well-prepared and consistently impressive. It’s rare to find a hotel restaurant you want to return to night after night but China Moon made it easy.

A very comfortable experience. My friend and I came to Chongqing for a trip, and after washing our clothes at the hotel, they weren't drying well hanging in the wardrobe. When the hotel staff cleaned the room, they noticed this and brought a drying rack for me, hanging it by the window and even opening the window a bit for ventilation. They also left a small note explaining everything, a special thanks to Aunt Shi. Also, when we called reception for bottled water, fresh towels, slippers, etc., they were delivered very quickly; the service was excellent. The view from the room window was also great, and the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, always smiling and patiently answering our questions. Chongqing was a lot of fun, and we'll definitely come back if we get the chance (though it was too hot in the mornings).

This hotel was the best one we stayed at during our trip back to China. Angelina at the front desk was absolutely amazing! 👍👍 She was so attentive and patiently answered all our questions. She even upgraded our room when we asked. The hotel food was also super good, and the facilities were complete, clean, and beautiful. Overall, we were extremely satisfied. Even the staff outside the lobby were incredibly warm and funny. My husband, who was visiting Chongqing for the first time, absolutely loved this hotel. Plus, its location near Jiefangbei is fantastic. We'll definitely come back here on our next trip to China. Highly recommend! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Location: Situated inside Chongqing's landmark 'Grand Sail' building, directly above Raffles City and with direct metro access. Within walking distance to Chaotianmen, Hongyadong, Jiefangbei, and the pier. There are three hotels in the 'Sail' building: InterContinental Raffles City, Hotel Indigo, and Ascott. Ascott is wholly owned by CapitaLand, the developer of Raffles City, so its quality is undoubtedly top-notch. Facilities: Positioned as a serviced apartment, the public areas are compact yet comfortable and practical. The lobby offers complimentary tea and fresh flowers. A significant portion of the public space is dedicated to guests. The gym is well-equipped with at least two treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes, as well as a full set of resistance machines. There's also a yoga room with river views, comparable to a small commercial gym. It provides hot/cold water, sanitizing wipes, towels, and even headphones with sterilized covers. The swimming pool was closed during our two-day stay, so we hope to check it out next time. Below the hotel is Raffles City's urban garden, leading directly to a river-view platform – a peaceful oasis amidst the bustle. Room: We were fortunate to be upgraded to a two-bedroom suite, so spacious it was astounding. It features two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a bathtub in the master. It includes a washer and dryer, perfect for families. The kitchen is fully equipped with a built-in microwave, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, and range hood. A complete set of dishes and cookware is provided. The facilities are excellently maintained; the microwave and oven looked almost unused. The room offers a pillow menu and abundant storage space. Due to its unique location, Ascott's rooms offer either unbeatable river views, stunning city views, or like ours, views of both. Service: Special thanks to Miss Genny at the front desk, who was incredibly patient during our check-in, attentively asked about our needs, and efficiently arranged our room. We arrived early, intending only to store our luggage, but to our surprise, we received our room key immediately. We are very grateful. All hotel staff were exceptionally proactive, friendly, and helpful – carrying luggage, greeting us upon sight, making us feel right at home. The staff member on the ground floor was also wonderful, assisting with getting in and out of cars/moving luggage and patiently giving directions. Overall, a very satisfying stay.

The day before our arrival, Miya called us to ask about our room preferences. Our flight was late in the evening, leaving a long gap after checkout. Since Chongqing was extremely hot, we didn't want to check out early and drag our luggage around. We asked Miya from Jinming for a late checkout. She thoughtfully helped me plan the appropriate extension time, quickly processed the application, and successfully extended our checkout. This allowed us to comfortably rest in the room, making our departure much easier. Her communication was gentle, and she was very efficient, thoughtful, and attentive.

This hotel is located right across from Bayi Square and is also close to the subway. Stepping out, you're on Bayi Road Food Street, where you can find all sorts of local specialty snacks. The staff were very warm and attentive. When we arrived, they immediately offered us refreshing lemon and plum juice from the hotel's self-service, which was incredibly crisp and tasty. Housekeeping was prompt; they even helped us with laundry while we were out exploring. Food delivery riders can bring orders directly to your room. Honestly, if it's not too hot, a short walk will get you to a ton of great food options. You can easily walk to Jiefangbei and Hongyadong from here, and to get to Liziba, you can take Line 2. Across the street from the hotel, you get a great mountain view, and you can even spot the Golden Eagle. I highly recommend this place for anyone who loves food and exploring!

Having stayed at other Hyatts before, I was always impressed with their breakfast, so I specifically booked the Grand Hyatt for our Chongqing trip, and the breakfast certainly didn't disappoint. The hotel itself is well-maintained, though the rooms are a bit basic. What I really want to talk about is the service, which was just so-so. We came to Chongqing after visiting Chengdu, where we stayed at the Lamborghini Hotel. When we checked in there, the front desk attendant immediately noticed we were two adults and one child and had someone bring up kids' toothbrushes, slippers, and plenty of bottled water without us even asking. Honestly, it's not just the Lamborghini; when traveling with kids, many hotels proactively provide children's amenities without you having to request them. However, at the Hyatt, during check-in, the front desk didn't mention children's toothbrushes or slippers, nor did they bring up the room upgrade that was supposedly included according to our Ctrip booking. I forgot to ask about it at the time and only remembered afterward. There were only two bottles of water in the room, but I didn't ask for more since we had brought so much water from the Lamborghini in Chengdu that we couldn't even finish it all. It just felt a bit stingy to only offer two bottles, especially given how hot it is in Chongqing.

My absolute favorite, old-money style! On my first trip to Chongqing, I specifically chose this Sheraton. As soon as I got into the Ferrari in Chongqing, the driver proudly started talking about how luxurious the Chongqing Sheraton was, how rich the owner was, and how expensive the rooms were. Nearing the hotel, I could see two large golden towers from afar – the Sheraton literally blinds you in the midday sun [facepalm emoji]. The hotel's overall style is European, very grand, and the rooms are well-maintained. The view of the Chongqing river is absolutely stunning. The front desk service is definitely international five-star standard. The three women with glasses were all very enthusiastic. They arranged for our two rooms to be on the same floor and even recommended some must-visit attractions in Chongqing. I just remembered to give it a five-star review and a shout-out today while going through my travel photos from this trip.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property.  Everyone was so nice and kind.  The service was top- notch.  The amenities were plenty and easy accessible.   A few extras that made everything worth it were the full- sized refrigerator, with freezer, the washing machine (for which they provided soap as well), dish washer, stove top, towel drier ( in the washroom) and full sized closet.  The view was so beautiful and calming as well.   Everything about this room was just so nice and exactly what I needed.     I didn’t realize how perfect the location was in relation to almost everything that I wanted to see.   When I figured that out, I just got up every day and walked to everything that I needed or wanted to see.   It was extremely close to a lot of restaurants, malls, local shops and smaller attractions.  I was less than a 10 -15 minute walk to Raffles City Shopping Center where there is a 5 story mall, Movie theatre, roof top attraction with the swing,  SKY WALK and also the river front park with amazing views.  Same distance for Hongyadong, the viewing platform, the Qiansemen Bridge- if you wanted to walk across the bridge at night- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!  There is so much to see and experience between the hotel and these attractions.  Your days will be filled with fun and adventure.    If ever I have the opportunity to come back to the city, I will very excited to repeat this experience.

After a long and difficult search for a hotel, I stumbled upon this place upon arriving at Jiefangbei that evening, and it perfectly rounded off my entire trip! The location is superb, right next to Jiefangbei, and just a ten-minute walk to Hongyadong. Downstairs, there are countless supermarkets and eateries. Local specialties like 'Bandeng Noodles,' 'Ghost Buns,' and 'Old Chongqing Hotpot' are everywhere, making dining and getting around incredibly convenient. The room was great, and the front desk staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. They even upgraded our room for free and extended our check-out to 4 PM because our flight was delayed. They also proactively came out from behind the front desk to help us with our luggage. On our first day, we left a note in the laundry room asking them to dry our clothes and hang them back in our room because we were rushing out to explore and worried we'd be back late. To our surprise, they actually did it! Super impressed! The hotel is very close to Guanyin Bridge, and the metro station is also conveniently located. The street food BBQ across the street tasted better than the folk bar we went to later that night. There's also a Fenghua Hotpot behind the hotel that Wang Hedi visited, which is absolutely delicious and super popular – if you go too late, you'll have to queue.

Definitely not recommended on WARM DAYS because the hotel will turn off AC completely. I stayed at this hotel from 5/8 to 5/11, In-room HVAC only worked on daytime when outdoor temperature reached about 30 degrees, in room temperature was cooling down and comfortable enough. However, the hotel shut down AC system at night because outdoor temperature is not hot enough, that leading to in room temperature went back to 27 degrees, I got totally sleepless. Understood the hotel tried to save money on electricity, but AC system is the one of basic amenity systems and should not shut down the mostly of the days. Moldy grout, moldy caulking are all around the shower, the picture attached. Non adjustable shower head with fixed holder need upgraded. That shows lack of the maintenance for rooms. Room attendant provided great service she could and made me feel comfortable and welcome. All failures are belonging the management related to budget control.

The hot spring facilities are also impressive, with a good variety of pools and a cleverly designed, intricate layout. Cons: The hotel's hardware facilities are quite outdated. For this price point, the hotel could definitely learn from the operational standards of top-tier brands. Furthermore, the breakfast selection is limited, and the toiletries in the room are of poor quality – these are areas with significant room for improvement. Large sections of wooden panels in the public areas are discolored or in disrepair. Overall: If you're looking for value for money, you might want to reconsider. However, if budget isn't an issue and you prioritize experiencing the beautiful scenery and hot springs, it's definitely worth a visit. Finally, the complimentary travel photoshoot provided by the hotel was a nice touch, and I'd like to commend the photographer, Zixuan, for her excellent service.

The room was really nice, with a huge bed. The private hot spring filled up quickly with thermal water. Xiao Zhang at the front desk was very welcoming and check-in was smooth, with great service. After a late-night soak, I called for room service at midnight and the bathrobes were delivered promptly. The lamb hot pot in the set meal had a generous amount of lamb and offal. The breakfast buffet was much more abundant than standard, and the pea and ground pork noodles were especially delicious. Nanquan hot spring is right across from the hotel, so the location is excellent.

The room was exceptionally good, with all the facilities well-appointed. Our private hot spring bath was incredibly comfortable, and the bed was just perfect—neither too soft nor too hard. The room was also very smart, featuring a central control system with Xiao Du (a smart assistant) and a smart toilet. We had a wonderful night's rest. Overall, it was a fantastic stay.

Stepping into the Grand Hyatt Chongqing again felt like time folding back into a familiar embrace. The warm glow of the lobby was like the gaze of an old friend, gently welcoming my travel-weary self. Ryan at the front desk smiled as warmly as ever, Tiffany's greeting was still as gentle, and Bella's eyes held that knowing spark – they are my compass in this city, a direction I can find without a map. Goldberg at the Club Lounge had already prepared a delightful surprise. Birthday balloons floated gently, like clouds in a dream. The guest room door slowly opened to warm yellow light, a neatly arranged birthday cake, and a handwritten card – every detail whispered: 'Welcome home.' I didn't need candles on a cake because the warmth and thoughtfulness from these people were light enough. Thank you for weaving an ordinary birthday into a shining chapter of memories with your professionalism and kindness. Grand Hyatt Chongqing isn't just a hotel; it's my second home in this city. And I've never really left.

The location is excellent, not too far from Linjiangmen metro station, and within walking distance of many popular attractions including Hongyadong. The staff were polite, friendly, and provided great service. They used a translation device to explain important information which was very helpful. I was also pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade to a higher floor. The room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with everything I needed. The air conditioning was individually controlled, so I could adjust the temperature to my liking. It worked perfectly and kept the room nice and cool which was especially appreciated during the hot summer. Breakfast is served as a la carte not a buffet. You can choose one main dish from the menu, all of which are different varieties of Chongqing noodles. Breakfast is served at the restaurant on the first floor next to the lobby which is also open to the public, and you don't have to eat it only in the morning, you can enjoy your meal anytime during the restaurant's opening hours. The hotel also has a rooftop on 15th floor where you can relax or enjoy the view. At checkout, the hotel staff gave me a souvenir snack which was a thoughtful touch. Overall, I had a wonderful stay and was very impressed. I would definitely choose to stay here again if I visit Chongqing in the future! The only downside is that there is only one elevator, so you may have to wait occasionally. However, the wait was never too long, so it wasn't a major issue. If you're staying on the lower floors, taking the stairs is often quicker.

This hotel is conveniently located near Guanyin Bridge, making transportation a breeze. While it's not the newest hotel, the room facilities are still quite good. The rooms are spacious and very clean, and the breakfast spread is excellent. The staff are all incredibly warm and attentive, especially Jackie and Bella, who really made us feel right at home.

We came to Chongqing during the hottest weather, driven by curiosity and using my child's travel as the perfect excuse. I booked this hotel, which is considered the best for families wanting to visit Raffles City. Our room directly faced Raffles City, allowing us to see people commuting in the mornings and evenings. Outside the hotel, there's a small night market with various graffiti on the walls, making for great photo opportunities. The room facilities were perfectly adequate for us; the size was just right, and our stay was very comfortable. The Riverside Road is just outside the hotel, and during our evening strolls, we saw many girls taking photos and lots of messages of well wishes on the walls. It was a really pleasant experience.

My stay here was fantastic! The hotel's location is excellent, making it super convenient to get around. The room was clean and tidy, and the comfortable bedding ensured I had a great night's sleep. The front desk staff were warm, friendly, and very attentive. They even held onto a package for me that arrived five days early, keeping it safe and sound. All in all, I felt right at home. I'll definitely stay here again if I get the chance, highly recommended!

My stay at the Westin Chongqing Jiefangbei was absolutely perfect! The location is fantastic – right downstairs, you'll find Jiefangbei and Bayi Road Food Street, and Hongyadong is just a short walk away. The high-floor, panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows offer stunning two-river night views right from your bed, and the Heavenly Bed was so soft and comfortable for a great night's sleep. The 54th-floor infinity pool has breathtaking views, and the staff were warm and attentive. Check-in was efficient, the room was clean and tidy, and the breakfast included authentic Chongqing noodles. This is definitely my top choice for a vacation in Chongqing!

Jiangbeizui/Beibin Road Chongqing|2.53km from downtown
Overall, the hotel is decent, but there's room for improvement in the details. Upon arrival, someone opened the car door and helped with luggage, which was great. Check-in was also very quick. However, the room had a few issues. First, the hairdryer was a bit faulty; it was plugged in but wouldn't work. I had to call someone to replace it. Second, the water pressure in the shower was too low; it could definitely be stronger. The hotel breakfast also had some problems. When I went for breakfast, someone seated me, and then a staff member asked if I wanted a drink. I requested an iced latte, and she said 'okay.' However, after more than twenty minutes, no latte arrived. Eventually, I went to the coffee machine myself and asked a staff member to make one for me. Also, I think the breakfast tables could have fewer unnecessary decorations and a better arrangement. There was an upright book on the table, and only after I picked it up did I realize there was a small potted plant behind it. I wondered if the plant might get knocked over if someone wasn't careful when grabbing the book… On the other hand, the butler service was quite good. Butler Yannie was very responsive to all requests, answered quickly, and was basically online all day. She even replied to my messages past 1 AM! Most importantly, her replies were timely and enthusiastic. I also want to thank her for sending a complimentary bottle of red wine, even though I forgot to drink it, haha… When I discussed extending my stay on the second night, she thoughtfully explained the process and answered all my questions, which I really appreciate 👍. The hotel room view was quite good, and the decor was also decent. The hotel's public areas are especially beautiful and perfect for photos. A special thanks to the front desk for upgrading me! I ended up in a river-view room, and the scenery outside the window was excellent.

Hua Bang is a must-stay when visiting Fairy Mountain! The hotel is conveniently located right in the heart of the scenic area, very close to the mini-train. The hotel's shuttle service is excellent, picking you up and dropping you off whenever needed. Special shoutout to Xiao Xiao at the front desk – she was incredibly attentive and helpful throughout our stay, responding to all our requests immediately. The shuttle driver, Mr. Tu, also had a great service attitude. Within the park, the Red Maple Stone Forest and Zhuoya Lawn are fantastic for photos, and you can walk straight to the grassland via the forest trail without any queues. The serene mountain environment is so healing and relaxing, and thanks to Xiao Xiao's warm service, our entire trip was incredibly comfortable.

The room was quite spacious, with a low table by the window and a bay window, perfect for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. It was very comfortable. The bedding was also very comfortable, with soft duvets, though I did spend quite a while trying to figure out the bedside lamp, haha. The bathroom and toilet were in separate spaces, with the sink outside, all three being independent, which was incredibly convenient and a huge plus! Many other hotels don't offer such a thoughtful layout. The reception isn't on the same floor as the guest rooms, and there's a dedicated lounge area where you can work, read, or watch shows. The room's soundproofing was good; I didn't even hear the heavy rainstorm outside last night. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and even gave us two bottles of water for our journey when we checked out, which was a very thoughtful touch. You can also store your luggage at the front desk. The hotel is situated in a tranquil area surrounded by schools, museums, and memorials, making for a beautiful environment. It's accessible from two subway stations, and there's a police car on duty right downstairs, as well as security guards, so it feels very safe. I highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Chongqing, especially with many historical 'red' attractions nearby, perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Although the hotel is a bit dated, the basic facilities are well-maintained, and the service was excellent. They even upgraded me to a river-view room, and the rooftop offers a fantastic panoramic view of the city at night! My only complaint is the hairdryer – it's incredibly old, like something from the 80s. You have to constantly hold the button down to get air, and it's so hot it almost burns your scalp. I called reception, and they said there were no other hairdryers available to swap it out. Seriously, how can a hotel still have a hairdryer like this in this day and age? After blow-drying my hair, I was sweating all over again. Don't they think about updating these kinds of amenities?

Jiefangbei Area/Hong Ya Dong Chongqing|3.23km from downtown
The hotel breakfast wasn't particularly good, but the location is great, making it a worthwhile stay! Just a heads-up, avoid that old hotpot restaurant – it's a scam targeting tourists! A middle-aged man, pretending to be shopping for groceries, will strike up a conversation, tell you about a nearby mall (he won't mention restaurants at first), building rapport. Then, when you ask for good local eateries, he'll enthusiastically recommend this place, claiming it's a local favorite and that you've 'asked the right person.' The hotpot restaurant's shrimp was frozen, and the meat was terrible quality! I struggled through the meal, thinking this was authentic local flavor. After I finished, I saw him pointing out the 'way' to another family, still with his bag of groceries! He saw me looking back and quickly walked away. That's when I realized he was a new type of hustler!

I just checked out today, so I wanted to share my honest experience. First off, the hotel is right next to the Jiefangbei CBD in the city center. The sign is very prominent and easy to find. 👍 Second, I booked a room with a four-piece bedding set, and the staff at the front desk were incredibly warm and even gave me a disposable set, which made me feel very comfortable and safe during my stay. [Rose] Room: The overall style of the room has a slight light luxury retro vibe, very characteristic of Chongqing. The lighting in the room is a warm yellow, not at all harsh. The bedding was clean and tidy. 🚽 This hotel also has a wet/dry separation design, with the washroom, shower, and toilet all separate. 🌟 What's quite special about this hotel is that the guest room floors are carpeted. Personally, I found it very quiet and had a great night's sleep. The hotel's facilities are also quite comprehensive, with a laundry room that includes a dryer and an ironing machine, and a 24-hour gym. For just over a hundred yuan, it feels like incredible value for money. I look forward to staying here again next time I visit Chongqing!!!

Staying at this hotel was such a comfortable experience during my trip! The hotel amenities were really thoughtful. The room was also spotlessly clean. The location is super easy to find, right next to the South Gate of Southwest University of Political Science and Law. I'll definitely consider staying here again next time I visit the university.
