Central Shanghai Map

Central Shanghai Map

The Huangpu River runs through central Shanghai, dividing Shanghai into the historic west from the modern east (“Pudong” and “Puxi” as local says). Around the river is the city’s most vibrant area, packed with attractions and a convenient transportation network— metro, taxi, or even shared bikes.

Whether you're coming from Hongqiao Airport or Pudong Airport, downtown is highly accessible.

Shanghai Metro Map: Ride Like a Local

Shanghai Metro Map

The Shanghai Metro was first officially put into operation by the Metro Line 1 in 1993, becoming the third urban rail transit system to be opened on the Chinese mainland. Among them, Line 11 can reach Kunshan City, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Therefore, Shanghai Metro is the first urban rail transit system in China to operate across provinces.

Reliable, frequent, and budget-friendly, Shanghai Metro is your first choice to explore the city. Some useful lines for travelers include:

  • Line 1: Runs north to south, passes People’s Square and Circus World
  • Line 2: East-west connection, links both Pudong and Hongqiao airports
  • Line 4: Circular line, great for reaching the financial district
  • Line 10: Covers old Shanghai neighborhoods, including Yu Garden
  • Line 11: Direct access to Shanghai Disneyland

5 Must-See Shanghai Attractions Map

Shanghai Map | The Bund

Shanghai Map | The Bund

Source from China Discovery

The Bund is the NO.1 must-visit scenic spot in Shanghai. It is a landmark of Shanghai and also its calling card. Here, there is an old wharf brimming with artistic atmosphere, as well as the historic Peace Hotel and Waldorf Astoria. There is also the dazzling Bund Light Show and the Huangpu River cruise ship offering a panoramic view of the charm of the Huangpu River. Here, during the day, it is bustling and prosperous, and at night, it is ablaze with lights and colors. I recommend that you come here during the day to see the buildings of the Republic of China era and at night to enjoy the lights of the Bund.

Great views and most importantly the ride on the river cruise is not crowded, would be better if the route of the cruise passes the Oriental Pearl stretch of Huangpu River.

It was a bit hazy, so it didn't show up well in photos, but it was still nice! However, if you're on a tight schedule in the morning, be careful of your legs getting numb, as you'll be standing for about an hour touring.

After today's guided tour of the World Architecture Exhibition, I finally understand the history and origins of each building. Professor Mao's explanations were both interesting and professional, just like the blend of ancient and modern architecture along the Huangpu River – truly excellent and highly recommended! 👍

Shanghai Map | Yu Garden

Shanghai Map | Yu Garden

Source from China odyssey tours

Yuyuan Garden is located near the City God Temple and has very convenient transportation. It is the one among the five major gardens in Shanghai that is closest to the city center. This place was originally the official residence of officials in the Ming Dynasty. The layout is elegant and refined, with blue tiles and white walls, exquisitely carved and ingeniously designed. It's well worth a look. Wandering in the Yu Garden, one can walk along the winding corridors or take a look at the koi fish under the Bridges. Every step reveals a new scene, and each scene is full of twists and turns. One can't help but admire the landscaping skills of Suzhou-style gardens. Every snap of the camera is breathtaking.

My parents and I visited the garden during the day on a weekday. We really enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere, but because there were so many people, we weren't always able to capture the beauty as well as we'd hoped. Overall, it was very beautiful, like stepping into ancient China!

Given that I went to Suzhou gardens days before, I was not impressed with this Yu garden at all. Anyway it was a destination to tick off in my checklist so I am happy I made it on my last day in SH.

It’s an amazing place, a walk back in time when every bit of the garden is so well thought out based on the owners’ vision, incorporating nature with Chinese aesthetics, fengshui, religious & cultural aspects of life. So beautiful, so difficult to imagine all the skill & experience of all the artisans who built this place. I took the tour in Mandarin and my awesome guide was Xiao Ting 小婷. She is highly knowledgeable not just about the history of the garden but all the cultural nuances of the architectural design, the artwork, the botanical selection, the poetic aspects, etc. I had a great time and learned a lot from her today. This is a must-see place to visit if you are a landscape designer or simply love beautiful gardens.

Shanghai Map | Shanghai Disneyland

Since I'm in Shanghai, I can't help but mention the newly-built Shanghai Disneyland. Although it has been open for business for a short time, it has become a dark horse among Shanghai's scenic spots and has become a reason for many people to visit Shanghai. This is the latest theme park that Disney has devoted all its efforts to creating. Besides retaining the attractions from all over the place, it has also added many new activities. We strongly recommend that everyone try the Horizon Leap! I will never be disappointed. Besides, there are a wide variety of delicious foods to choose from in Disneytown. You don't have to have a set meal in the park at all!

It was crowded, but that didn't ruin our experience (mom and 14-year-old daughter). We rode everywhere we wanted. We stayed overnight at the Toy Story Hotel and got early access, an hour before opening. Amazing Disneyland!

It was amazing! Even without fast track, we only stood in line for the gnomes 1-1.5 times (but it wasn't worth it), and overall the line lasted 20-40 minutes. By evening, the line was almost gone; everyone was heading to get a spot for the fireworks. I liked Pirates of the Caribbean the most – we sneaked in there five times, if not more.

Shanghai Map | The Old City God Temple

"If you go to Shanghai and don't visit the City God Temple, it's as if you haven't been to the big city of Shanghai." " It is evident that the Old Town God Temple holds a significant position and has considerable influence in Shanghai. The City God is the protective deity of the city in Taoism. The snacks in the City God Temple are very famous. The most renowned ones are Nanxiang crab roe Xiaolongbao, five-spice beans and sweet rice balls.
