Must-Have Apps for Travelling in Bali

Straight into it. Here’s the full list of apps that you need for your Bali trip, and every one of them is free to download. Categories cover everything from getting around to sorting out the logistics of visiting to booking things to see and do.

Bali Apps | Grab

You have probably already heard of Grab, a Southeast Asia-wide ride-hailing app. It’s as simple as you’d hope it would be: enter your destination, view how much it’s going to cost you before booking, and then pay securely through a linked card. You skip the roadside negotiation entirely, and Grab covers everything from rides to your hlove botel from the airport to day trips. 

GrabBike offers rides to your destination on the back of motorbikes and scooters, designed to weave in between the heavy traffic on Bali. 

Note that there’s one place that Grab works differently: I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Drivers aren’t allowed to pick you up directly outside arrivals, instead, you’ll need to follow signs to the Grab Lounge in the car park building where a dispatcher will help you book and point you to your driver. Bali Apps | Gojek

Gojek is Grab's Indonesian rival, and plenty of locals will tell you that it works better than its counterpart. These two apps overlap almost completely. GoCar matches GrabCar, GoRide matches GrabBike, and both apps use surge pricing (which means prices go up depending on deand). I’d recommend having both apps installed so you can always compare the prices in both for wherever you want to go, choosing the cheaper option. 

Where Gojek stands out is its service GoFood, Indonesia’s biggest food delivery service. It covers everything from local warungs (small family-run eateries) to the smoothie-bowl spots of Canggu, and a delivered meal often costs less than a taxi to the restaurant would and lets you enjoy a night in at the hotel. 

Bali Apps | Love Bali

Now to an app that lets you tick off a legal requirement for entry into Bali, rather than just being convenient. Every visitor to Bali will need to pay a tourist tax of IDR 150,000 (about AUD $15, as of July 2026), and Love Bali is what it’s called. The app is just one way you can pay this levy; you can also use the official website (lovebali.baliprov.go.id) or pay at a counter upon arrival at Bali’s airport. Everyone needs to pay the levy, including children and infants, and the cost is separate from your visa. 

Enforcement has tightened in 2026, and now police officers might run a spot check at the major attractions in Bali, asking to see your QR code that you received once you paid the levy. Bali Apps | Google Maps

An app 99% of the population will be familiar with is Google Maps, and it works exactly as it does back home in Australia when you’re in Bali. Live traffic is accurate, business listings are well maintained for browsing restaurants and things to do, and there are plenty of reviews to check whether you’re making a good choice or not. 

A few caveats to take note of. The first is that reception can get patchy in some spots on the island, so it’s a good idea to download an offline map of Bali on your home WiFi before you fly. The second is that Google Maps loves a shortcut, but in Bali that might mean alleyways only wide enough for a scooter to pass through. Good to know if you’ve got a car, and also good to know if you see your driver ignoring Google Maps on the odd occasion.

Bali Apps | WhatsApp

WhatsApp is the main way that Bali stays in touch with one another, and that includes all the businesses you’ll be interacting with as well, including your hotel, any drivers you might reserve, the surf school, spas, and everything in between. 

WhatsApp works over any data connection, so if you set it up on your Australian number at home before you leave, make sure to pair it with a Bali eSIM for data.

Bali Apps | Trip.com

The Trip.com app rounds out the list as the booking side of your Bali kit. From the app, you can book everything like your flights from Australia to Denpasar, hotels and resorts across Bali, popular Bali day tours, attraction tickets and airport transfers.

The best part is that all of your bookings are stored in one spot that’s also accessible offline. For Bali specifically, the app definitely comes in handy when comparing prices of day tours online to what a street agent is quoting you.

Bali Apps | Bluebird

Bluebird deserves a mention as Bali's favourite taxi company, recognised for their light blue cars with the bird logo. They employ the island's most reputable taxi drivers who use the meter for your trips, are friendly, and won't try to negotiate a price or rip you off.

The Bluebird app lets you book online just as you would a rideshare, with a fixed price upfront and the estimated pickup and arrival time. 

Bali Apps | All Indonesia

All Indonesia is the Indonesian government's official entry app. You use it to complete your digital arrival card and electronic customs declaration before you land, and as of 2026, you can also use it to link your Love Bali levy QR code into the app, which means one QR code covers you through immigration and the levy check.

Bali Travel Tips

Since we’re on the topic of making your Bali trip as smooth as possible, here are some other handy Bali travel tips. 

• Get connected before you land. Nowadays, having an eSIM installed at home and activated on landing means you can hit the ground without missing a beat or notification, and communicate with drivers, your hotel, and tour operators. 
• Carry some cash. Cards and QR payments are widespread in the south of Bali, but small warungs, temple donations and roadside fruit stalls still run on rupiah. It’s a destination where it comes in handy to have some cash. 
• Check your visa situation. As an Aussie tourist, you’ll more than likely be using the e-VOA (Visa on Arrival), which can be arranged online before flying. Note that this is separate from the Love Bali levy, and you’ll need both. Make sure to stay on top of all the bureaucracy with our guide for Indonesian visas.
• Time your trip. As a tropical destination, when you go to Bali changes the experience dramatically. Dry season (roughly May to October) is peak Bali weather, and it lines up neatly with the Australian winter school holidays.
